Maximus Decimus Meridius is the main protagonist of the 2000 epic historical film Gladiator and will most likely serve as the overarching protagonist in the upcoming 2024 sequel Gladiator 2.
Hispano-Roman Legatus from Spain who served as General of the Felix Legions and Commander of the Roman Army on behalf of their emperor, Marcus Aurelius, for many years. Over the years, Maximus formed a close relationship with Aurelius as the latter respected the former so much to the point of seeing him as a son.

- Being the commander-in-chief of Emperor Marcus Aurelius, he did a lot for his state, for which Aurelius himself fell in love with him as his own son and was ready to hand over the throne to him.
- Refused to join Commodus after learning that he was the one who killed the emperor.
- Having got into gladiatorial fights, he commanded the prisoners, and it was thanks to his leadership that the prisoners managed to win and survive.
- He didn't kill Commodus when he saw him sister and nephew are next to the villain, because thought it would cause serious trauma to their psyche.
- Although he killed many gladiators, it was a result of fair fights where he had no choice but to kill them.
- He spared one gladiator, despite the fact that the audience and Commodus ordered him to be killed.
