| ~ Max trying to convince Mike to let her join the Party |
Maxine "Max" Mayfield is one of the main protagonists of Netflix's Stranger Things franchise.
She is a girl coming from an abusive handhold at the hands of both her stepfather and stepbrother, who moved to Hawkins in 1984 and attracted the attention of the Party due to her video game prowess. Over the following months, she would become involved in their activities and discover the truth behind the Upside Down after being dragged in by Lucas and Dustin to help Steve Harrington catch Dart.
She would eventually begin a romantic relationship with Lucas Sinclair and become good friend with Eleven, but would begin to isolate herself after Billy's death, which caused Vecna to target her.
She is portrayed by Sadie Sink.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Though she's dismissive of them at first, she befriends the members of the Party over time, helps assist them in their adventures to save the world, and grows to genuinely care for her new friends, especially with Lucas and Eleven.
- While she started out with more corrupting qualities, such as having jerkish moments, she reforms herself and becomes much nicer later in the series.
- Despite the high admirable standards, Max stands out for saving Steve Harrington from being beaten to the point of dying by Billy and later for sacrificing herself so that Vecna would target her, allowing Nancy, Steve, and Robin to infiltrate the Creel House in the Upside Down and heavily injure Vecna, protecting Hawkins from him.
Season 2[]
- She prevented Billy from running over Mike, Dustin, and Lucas with his car.
- She stopped Billy from further beating Steve and Lucas, by drugging him.
- While she threatened Billy with a nail bat, it was understandable due to his abuse towards her and for attempting a mass murder.
- She drove the party to one of the portals, despite not having a license in order to distract the Mind Flayer's army to help Eleven and Hopper stop it.
Season 3[]
- Despite their awkward first interaction, she quickly befriended Eleven and taught her to act like a regular person, by doing several fun activities at the Starcourt Mall, such as eating Ice Cream and wearing new clothes, becoming her only female friend and allowing Eleven to feel happy for the first time in a while.
- She helped the others by trying to help free Vecna from Billy's body by trapping him in the Hawkins Pool sauna.
- She stitched up Eleven's wounds after being attacked by the Mind Flayer's proxy.
- She helped the group save Hawkins, and eventually, the world from the Mind Flayer.
Season 4[]
- She showed concern for Chrissy Cunningham when she is shown to be distressed in the bathroom.
- She helped Dustin try to prove Eddie Munson's innocence revolving around Chrissy's murder.
- She was willing to help her mom out around the house after she takes double jobs due to Neil Hargrove's departure.
- Despite Billy's abuse towards her, she was saddened by his death and said she wishes they could've been friends while visiting his grave. Even when Vecna tried to use their negative relationship against them, she didn't give in.
- She endangered herself to lure in Vecna so the others can kill him, which at least helped them destroy Vecna's body, but got her temporarily killed in the process.
Season 5[]
- After seeing Holly within Vecna's mindscape, she sent a letter to her guised as Henry to get her to come to their sanctuary at the edge of the "world".
- She explained the truth behind Vecna/Mr. Whatsit to Holly and with renewed hope they began to plan a new escape plan.
- She helped Holly find the courage to escape Vecna's mindscape, albeit briefly.
- After awakening from her coma, even while in a wheelchair, she still contributed to helping her friends where she could.
- She supported Will's coming out to the Party.
- She guides El and Kali through Vecna's mind in order to save the kids.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- Even though she has mostly reformed herself, she still has some jerkish moments towards her own friends, such as in Season 3 where she constantly went out of her way to make Mike seem like the bad guy in his argument with Eleven despite not having the full story, and constantly giving her terrible advice. Though to be fair, Mike and Max were both guilty of treating each other terribly in season 3.
- She is mischievous; she used Eleven's telekinetic powers to spy on people for entertainment and never apologized for it, despite the boys feeling their privacy has been breached, and the fact she didn't like it when they spied on her.
Trivia[]
- Max and Dustin are the only members of the Party to be NPG, as Eleven and Lucas are PG, Will is not admirable enough, and Mike has far too many corrupting qualities to be NPG.
