~ Mantis regarding his small size |
Mantis is one of the main characters of the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
He is one of the Furious Five, the best Kung Fu Warriors in all of China, who protect the Jade Palace and the Valley of Peace. When Master Oogway foresees the time to choose the Dragon Warrior has come, he and the rest of the five prepare themselves to showcase their abilities to Oogway so he can choose the Dragon Warrior, though the chosen one was, in the end, a big, fat panda with no Kung Fu knowledge called Po.
He is voiced by Seth Rogen, who also voiced Donkey Kong in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close To Being Pure Good?[]
- Even before meeting the Furious Five, he was a Kung Fu hero who used his abilities to do good, such as saving some aphids from murderous Ladybugs and stopping a crocodile gang who stole the wool coats from a sheep village, which would've caused the village to freeze to death.
- He learned the virtue of patience and stopped being so jerkish and wrathful with those around him just because he was much faster, and, in his view, the outside world was way too slowed down.
- When he was accidentally called by Tigress, he and the other Furious Five enacted their first battle against the Boar, a criminal who wanted to destroy the Jade Palace and kill a sickened Shifu.
- He's also mentioned to have been on countless other battles along the Furious Five.
- He temporarily held the whole bridge during the fight against Tai Lung, which resulted in his near defeat since it allowed the others four to fight him together.
- He helped the Furious Five evacuate the Valley of Peace to prevent anyone from getting hurt by Tai Lung.
- He, Po, and the rest of the Furious Five went to Gongmen City to prevent Lord Shen from unleashing a campaign against all kung Fu in the world, so he can conquer it, using his innovative weapon.
- He helped infiltrate Shen's palace by dilacerating the swords of two wolf soldiers in the way.
- He put out the wick of Shen's weapon's fire multiple times to prevent it from firing on and killing Po and the Five, while also giving Viper enough time to free them.
- He helped in the second battle against Shen, though it ended humiliatingly due to Po's interference.
- He helped in the final battle against Shen, his wolves and his boats.
- He and Crane were sent by Shifu to warn other villages about Kai.
- He tried to face Kai on his own, though this decision proved to not be a good one.
- He and the Furious Five returned to the Jade Temple to help Po train Zhen
- Despite not being as admirable as Po, Shifu or Oogway, he has less resources than them.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can often be a jerk, making jokes at other people, such as making fun of the fact that Po wouldn't quit bouncing anytime soon (even getting reprimanded by Viper) and mocking Crane for being assigned to a mission just because he could fly, which ended up with him being assigned to the mission as well.
- His recklessness and impulsiveness can lead to him making bad decisions, such as directly attacking Kai, which led to him and Crane losing their chi to the former.
- He fails the admirable standards to Tigress, Mr. Ping, the Soothsayer, and Li Shan, who all did better than him with relatively similar (if not lower) resources.
