Luna Lovegood is a supporting protagonist in the Harry Potter series. She is an eccentric Ravenclaw student who was a key member (and later leader) of Dumbledore's Army, where she learned and taught self-defense skills during Umbridge's corrupt tenure at Hogwarts. She was a key participant in several battles, most notably in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and the Battle of Hogwarts. She later co-led Dumbledore's Army alongside Neville when Death Eaters took over the Ministry of Magic, preparing to fight the Death Eaters in the Battle of Hogwarts.
She was portrayed by Evanna Lynch.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Despite her eccentric personality, she is compassionate and caring towards the people who accepted her.
- She lacks corrupting qualities and always serves to lighten the mood of the story.
Pre-Order of the Phoenix[]
- She believed Harry Potter in Voldemort's return, providing crucial support to him when the entire Ministry of Magic was against him.
Order of the Phoenix[]
- Convinced her father to publish Rita Skeeter's interview about Harry confirming Voldemort's return in the Quibbler. Even though the Quibbler was a tabloid newspaper at the time, the interview was completely truthful and contrasted the Ministry's corrupt Daily Prophet (which was because of Fudge's smear campaign).
- Was an active and prominent member of Dumbledore's Army, and did everything possible to help both herself and fellow members hone their defense skills in light of Umbridge's corrupt tenure at Hogwarts.
- Aided Harry in contacting Sirius Black, and helped Harry and his friends arrive in the Department of Mysteries via Thestrals, which they wouldn't have been able to otherwise.
- Played a key role in the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and helped lead Ginny and Ron to safety, who were both incapacitated.
- Once the battle was over, she comforted Harry on his godfather's death.
Half-Blood Prince[]
- Aided Harry and his friends in fighting back against the Death Eaters on the Battle of the Astronomy Tower.
- Mourned alongside other Hogwarts staff and students in light of Dumbledore's death.
Deathly Hollows[]
- For the first half of her sixth year, while Hogwarts was led under a Death Eater regime, she co-led Dumbledore's Army alongside Neville Longbottom and Ginny Weasley, helping protect and train students from Death Eaters and was one of the main forms of resistance from Voldemort's regime.
- Attempted to find the Sword of Gryffindor alongside Neville and Ginny in Snape's office, though they were caught by the headmaster.
- Helped free Harry, Ron, Dean Thomas, and Griphook from their bindings at Malfoy Manner.
- Upon witnessing Dobby's death, she attended his burial and gave an eulogy for his courage and sacrifice.
- Returned to Hogwarts upon Neville's signal, and prepared to defend the school from incoming Death Eaters. She also helped Harry find and destroy the Ravenclaw Diadem, one of Voldemort's Hocruxes. While she didn't destroy the diadem herself, her role would be crucial in defeating Voldemort.
- Defeated Alecto Carrow in combat, a sadistic Death Eater.
- Engaged in the Battle of Hogwarts, helping defend Harry, Ron, and Hermione from incoming Death Eaters via Patronuses. Later on, she teamed up with Ginny and Hermione to take on Bellatrix Lestrange, a sadistic Death Eater and a Near Pure Evil.
- Congratulated Harry for his victory against Voldemort, and later went on to be a Magizoologist who would discover and classify many uncharted creatures in the wizarding world.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She fails the in-story standards to Harry, Ron, and Hermione, who destroyed most of the Hocruxes and had more active roles in Voldemort's demise. However, she doesn't fail it too badly as her unique heroism in finding the Ravenclaw Diadem and using aiding Harry and his friends to the Department of Mysteries allow her to still stand out.
- Her heroism of protecting Hogwarts from the Carrows relies on Fridge Brilliance, as the extent of her this act is not detailed. However, given how she tried to retrieve Gryffindor's sword, it can be safely assumed this act has some relevance to the story's plot.
