Lumiere is the tritagonist in Disney's 30th full-length animated feature film Beauty and the Beast. He is Prince Adam's debonair, yet mischievous, maître d’ who became a golden candelabra during the Enchantress' spell.
From 1991 to 2004, he was voiced by the late Jerry Orbach until his death caused this role to be taken by Jeff Bennett, who also voiced Tramp. In the 2017 live action remake of the same name, he was voiced and portrayed by Ewan McGregor, who also portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi. In the Broadway version, he was portrayed by the late Gary Beach.

- Despite having a habit to disobey the rules of the castle at times, Lumiere is a debonair, smart, and hospitable maître d' to Prince Adam, who asks for him for any help or advise, despite Cogsworth's position as advisor.
- Although he is somewhat a ladie's man, he is a fantastic fiancée to Plumette and together, the two have a mutual relationship.
- Despite their differences and being at odds together, he has a genuine friendship with Cogsworth.
- Even though Belle and the Beast may have admirable deeds, he stands out for having less resources regarding his heroic deeds.
Beauty and the Beast[]
- When being cursed into a candelabra during the Enchantress' curse, he remains hopeful that the curse will be undone and they'll become human if the Beast falls in love with someone before the last petal falls on his 21st birthday.
- After Maurice got lost in the woods, Lumiere and the other servants help make Maurice comfortable, despite Cogsworth's objections to send Maurice away (even if he feared their master's bad temper).
- When the Beast discovers Maurice as a stranger, Lumiere tries unsuccessfully to explain that Maurice was lost in the woods and was cold and wet.
- When they first see Belle, Lumiere told Cogsworth that she's the one who can undo the curse on them and on the castle.

- He also persuaded Cogsworth to become interested in pudding, only for him to do it out of fear of their master's bad temper.
- Thanks to Cogsworth, Lumiere noticed that Belle and Chip are in the Black Forest in search for the Christmas tree, under Maestro Forte's lies.
- He and Cogsworth went to the Black Forest, where they tried to prevent Belle and Chip from falling to their death in the water with the Christmas tree.
- He and the servants expressed their sadness towards Belle, who was locked up for breaking the Beast's promise of staying in the castle.
- During the perilous battle with Forte, Lumiere successfully help Cogsworth keep the rose from falling by properly putting it back on the table so the Beast can defeat Forte and save the castle without interference.
- He and the other servants congratulated Belle and the Beast for saving Christmas.
Belle's Magical World[]
- In Fifi's Folly, he planned a snow ride with Plumette, whom he later confesses his love to.
- In Mrs. Potts' Party, he and Cogsworth set aside their rivalry and work together to make a special surprise party for Mrs. Potts, curing her sadness about her party being ruined prior.
- In Broken Wing, he and the servants saved Cogsworth from falling to his death.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- While being a kind-hearted maître d' for the most part, he still does have some moments where he can be somewhat mischievous, as well as having some frequent quarrels and clashes with Cogsworth from time to time, such as their conflicting views towards the rules of the castle.
- Despite being highly intelligent for the most part, he can be somewhat incompetent as he left the window doors open that causes each papers to catch on fire. It almost got the castle burned had it not been for Belle and Mrs. Potts.
- However, he did show regret for the accident he caused, making this prevention weak.

- He used to be Heroic Benchmark due to his actions being generic kindness, but a further discussion deems this claim untrue, with his knowledge of love being the reason why Belle and the Beast developed a romantic and healthy relationship to help undo the curse on the kingdom and playing a role in saving the castle being the main reasons he was re-evaluated and moved to Near Pure Good, since Adam would remain a beast forever and no one could have helped him learn how to love someone (Belle) and help break the curse on the kingdom if it weren't for Lumiere’s intelligence of love and brave action to save the castle from Gaston and his followers.
