“ | You know, you should really announce your weapons, after you fire them, Mr. Gru. For example....lipstick taser! | „ |
~ Lucy's most famous quote, as she knocks Gru out with her lipstick taser. |
Lucina Wilde, best known as Lucy Wilde, is the deuteragonist of the Despicable Me franchise.
She is a high-ranking secret agent of an organization known as "Anti-Villain League," that protects the world from large scale threats, typically done by people known as "villains." She is sent on a mission to forcibly recruit a former supervillain, Felonious Gru, to assist the AVL in localizing a dangerous chemical serum, known as PX-41. She ends up, however, slowly falling in love with Gru, and in the end, marries him, and becomes the mother of his three adopted daughter, Margo, Edith and Agnes.
She was voiced by Kristen Wiig.
Her Good Rankings[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- As an agent in AVL, she likely stopped villains and solved cases before.
- She immediately accepted the task to recruit Gru.
- She apologized for her harsh treatment of Gru after she handles him over to AVL.
- While she claimed to be a fan of Gru, she liked him because of his adventures and spirit rather than because of his villainous acts, and was very excited to fight alongside him.
- She teamed up with Gru in order to find the dangerous serum, PX-41, in a shopping mall.
- She provided Gru all the gadgets he needs to continue the mission.
- She helped Gru break into El Macho's restaurant and non-lethally took down Pollito when it attacked Gru.
- Her presence made Gru a better person, as while he was already redeemed, he still was very selfish and lonely, and even had some villainous antics still present.
- She gave Gru her lipstick taser, which saved his life later in the fight against El Macho.
- She became a good mother figure to her daughter, ultimately learning to follow Margo's advice and be harsh when needed, sweet when justified, and in all situations, always protecting her daughters.
- She helped Gru try to defeat Bratt and recover the diamond.
- She defended Gru when he was being unfairly berated by AVL's new boss for failing to capture Bratt, saying she'd have to fire her too if she wanted to fire Gru, leading to both of them being fired.
- She was happy to see Gru bonding with his brother.
- She immediately took down many menacing men when Agnes screamed, thinking they were hurting her, and apologized when she saw it was a mistake.
- She defended Margo from a woman who cursed and disrespected her.
- When she noticed something was off, she followed Gru and Dru and found out about their plan to steal the diamond from Bratt.
- She saved both Gru and Dru's lives when falling off Bratt's tower, and while she twisted Gru's arm when telling him never to do anything hidden from her again, it is an understandable reaction, as she was angry for him making her worry, and she soon thanks him for getting the diamond back, meaning they'd get their jobs back as well.
- She warned Gru about Bratt kidnapping the girls and heading to Hollywood.
- While Gru and Dru went to defeat Bratt, she saved Margo, Edith and Agnes, from falling to their deaths while in a bubblegummed skyscraper.
- While she could seem too below the standards, her actions are what lead to Gru's full change of heart, in him fighting and defeating El Macho, stopping his world menacing plans, even if she didn't take a part on the fight directly, as well as joining AVL and defeating future villains by her side, so she still stands out barely enough. And it's very unfair to compare her to Gru since he has a starship and a legion of Minions for his resources.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She somewhat fails the high admirable standards to Kevin and Dru, as the former saved his entire species from being exterminated by Scarlet Overkill and the latter helped stop Balthazar Bratt from annihilating Hollywood.
- It doesn't help that they have less resources than Lucy, who has accessories, gadgets and weapons at her disposal while Kevin is a mere Minion and Dru is just the resident of a mansion.
- She has a few cold and mischievous moments that go completely unsubverted, such as:
- Her painfully twisting Gru's arm (to stop him from doing anything underhanded) and also tazing him (albeit on Ramsbottom's orders).
- Her having her car careen over a beach, which is very legally dubious, and driving Gru into the AVL whilst smiling over the car crash they got in.
- Her beating up criminals in a bar out of fear over Agnes supposedly being in danger.
- Under her cover as a hair stylist, she messed up Melora's hair. While it was an accident, she cowardly panicked and ran away instead of trying to fix it.
Trivia[]
- Lucy was originally a full-on Pure Good, but upon reanalysis, she was later proposed and approved Near Pure Good after it was discovered she failed the admirable standards of the franchise to Gru and Dru and having a few moments of carelessness that were too thoughtless for a Pure Good to do. Although unlike Mr. Gru, she doesn't have an army at her beck and call and most of her thoughtlessness is superficial and played for laughs.
- Lucy Wilde is the only Despicable Me character to be Near Pure Good, since every other character in the franchise either are jerks that give into villainy easily (e.g. Felonius Gru, Dr. Nefario, Dru Gru, most of the minions) or are too standard (e.g. the girls).
