Ka-chow!
~ Lightning McQueen’s catchphrase
Speed. I am speed!
~ Lightning McQueen's second catchphrase.
Right. Your big wreck in '54.
~ Lightning realizing why Doc Hudson stop racing due to his tragical crash at 1954.

Montgomery "Lightning" McQueen is the main protagonist of Pixar's Cars franchise.

In the films, he is voiced by Owen Wilson who also voiced Reggie in Free Birds. In the show and video games, he is often voiced by Keith Ferguson.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • He subverted almost all of his corrupting factors by the end of Cars 3.

Cars[]

  • He though reluctantly fixes the road he accidentally damaged in Radiator Springs.
  • He sympathized Doc of his reason why he stop racing because his big wreck at 1954.
  • He helped The King finish the last lap of the Dinoco 400 tiebreaker race after Chick severely injured him by ramming him off the track when not wanting Weathers to end up his career like Doc. By doing this, he grows to realize that helping others is more important than receiving fame, becoming much more selfless, even if it meant allowing his rival to claim victory by dirty means.
  • He helped Radiator Springs become popular again by helping improve their town.
  • He subverted his jerkish, selfish, and egotistical behavior after staying in Radiator Springs for a period of time.

Cars 2[]

  • He felt remorse for yelling at Mater for making him lose the Tokyo race and knew that he would be safe when he thought he returned to Radiator Springs.
  • When he saw Mater, he tried to apologize for his behavior and tells Mater that he is the bomb.
  • When Mater figured out who the mastermind behind the Lemon's plans was, he felt he couldn't do it due to being too different, but Lightning encourages him to be himself and not to think of what others think of him, making Mater change his mind and save the day.
  • He helped Mater save both London and the World Grand Prix racers by helping to get to the bottom of the identity of the boss of the Lemons.

Cars 3[]

  • He protected Cruz Ramirez from the ramming racers at Thunder Hollow and saved her from being shredded by Miss Fritter's razor.
  • He felt remorse for yelling at Cruz, acting ignorant and breaking her trophy after hearing her backstory of wanting to be a racer like him and apologized to her for his outburst.
  • He let Cruz get her chance at being a race car, nearly sacrificing his career in the process and let her take his place to finish the race at Florida 500.
  • He became Cruz's mentor at the end of the film.

Cars On The Road[]

  • He accompanies Mater on his road trip to see his sister, Mato's wedding.
  • He and Mater saved Ivy from a group of hunters by scaring them away so she can live in the mountain again.
  • He redeemed the two genders of road warriors and convinced them to put aside their differences and put an end to their destructive war, saving the desert after being turned into a post-apocalypse and the road warriors from killing each other.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • While he can't be compared to Finn and Holley due to their higher resources, he still fails the admirable standards to:
    • Mater, who saved the racers at the World Grand Prix and stopped Miles Axlerod and Professor Z from killing everyone.
    • Dusty and Blade Ranger, who saved the tourists from the wildfire.
  • While he subverted most of his corrupting factors, his little mischievous act of revving his engine to scare the tractors alerted Frank and nearly got him and Mater killed. Although he was reluctant in doing it and was only goaded by Mater, making it a minor prevention.

Trivia[]

  • For a while, he was originally Heroic Benchmark due to failing the admirable standards too much, but it was found out that he has done enough admirable acts to make him stand out, such as encouraging Mater to be himself, making him stop Miles Axlerod and stopping a destructive war that put the desert at an apocalypse and making peace among the Road Rumblers, making him be approved as Near Pure Good.
  • Lightning McQueen is unique among the Pixar protagonists as he does both lose and win, though it was meant to teach viewers that you don’t often win competitions in life and that there are more important things than winning.
