Near Pure Good Hero Wiki

Kotaro Higashi is the human host of Ultraman Taro and the one of the main protagonists of the later’s series, the 6th in the overall Ultraman franchise.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • Due to him being the human host of Taro, he technically shares the same amount of heroic deeds as him during their battle against opponents. To name a few there:
    • Defeating the super ability monsters (Astromons, Live King, Cosmo Liquid, Depparas, Rodera, Mururoa, Mukadendar, Rindon) which were said to be monsters that were more powerful than Yapool’s terrible monsters (creatures that already more powerful and dangerous than the usual Kaiju).
    • Saving Tokyo from Birdon (who had eaten all the Kemjira, temporarily managed to kill both him, Taro, and Zoffy (the leader of the Ultra brothers), and was likely intending on feasting on lots of humans throughout Tokyo).
    • Preventing humanity’s extinction by clearing out Mururoa’s Dark smoke clouds that were covering earth using the Ultra bell.
    • Defeating Mushra and preventing him from turning everyone in Tokyo/Japan into Mushrooms (all while freeing everyone who was turned including the majority of ZAT).
    • Defeating the two Alien Temperor agents with the help of the Ultra brothers without causing a war zone on Earth while also preventing them from trying to conquer/attack the land of light.
    • Defeating Tyrant after the monster previously defeated the other 5 Ultra brothers.
    • Defeating Dorobon and retrieving back Jack’s color timer before helping him return back to M78.

Ultraman Taro[]

  • During the beginning of episode 1, he said goodbye to his former captain Shiratori while leaving behind a goodbye letter thanking him for taking him around the world (as well as politely explaining why he decided to quit being a sailor in favor of becoming a boxer instead).
  • Upon noticing that Oil Drinker was attacking a bunch of ships (near where Captain Shiratori was), he immediately stopped his planting to go stop him.
  • With the help of an operating machine that happened to be near a doc, he managed to pull Oil Drinker away from some ships and force him into retreating back underwater.
  • When his old Captain thanked him for saving the ships, Kotaro revealed that he did it of gratitude for letting let him sail with the other sailors for free the whole time he was with them.
  • When Captain Shiratori gave him back the picture of his mother that he had accidentally left on the ship, Kotaro immediately proceeded to thank him.
  • When Captain Shiratori offered him a chance to stay at his house for a bit, he politely declined it (initially). Despite this, he still thanked him for the offer before saying goodbye.
  • Upon witnessing the Tigress flower he had planted become the monster Astromons and then coming to the realization that ZAT were right in trying to burn it and that he had essentially gotten into a fight with one of the members over nothing, he immediately tried to make up for it by trying to stop the monster himself, even going so far as to climb Astromons and try to attack him as he was flying.
  • After getting his armed healed from the Lady in Green, he immediately chose to join ZAT in order to help them defeat Astromons and any future monster.
  • Upon noticing that Astromons was going to attack ZAT’s base, he tried to warn Captain Asahina about it.
  • Eventually though, he decided to take matters into his own hands and try to stop Astromons himself (this time while he was battling in one of ZAT’s jets alongside the other members).
  • Following Astromons defeat, he eventually agreed to stay with Shitori family under Captain Asahina advisory.
  • Knowing that Kitajima and Nishida were about to be eaten by Cosmo Liquid, he quickly transformed into Taro to save them.
  • When Kenichi’s dog Pochi accidentally fell into a mysterious whole, he immediately had Kenichi stay back while he went to check on the whole and come up with a rescue plan (at least before he fell into once it was revealed to be the monster Live King).
  • While in Live King’s stomach, he tried to keep Pochi safe from getting killed.
  • While battling against Live King and Cosmo Liquid, he was the one who came up with the idea to freeze the latter, thus leading it’s defeat at the hands of Captain Asahina later on after it and Live King were frozen by Taro.
  • Upon being told by Kenichi that Live King wasn’t dead and that he had eaten a chicken coup, he immediately went to check despite the fact that his arm had been injured. Following this, he then went on to alert the rest of ZAT about this so that they would be prepared.
  • As him and the rest of ZAT were trying to lure out Live King, he briefly had Kenichi and his dog Kochi get to safety.
  • At the end episode 3, he managed to keep a promise he made to Kenichi involving boxing.
  • When a Sakuma’s friend claimed Sakuma was eaten by a rock and started getting accused by their boss of lying, Kotaro was the first one to defend the possibility of his claim, stating that they shouldn’t automatically disregard it so soon.
  • When one of the remaining poachers Shirai who ate Queen Tortoise’s eggs started running out of fear of potential getting killed by her and King Tortoise, he had Nishida stay at the building where the remaining poachers were so that he could try and stop Shirai from potentially getting in danger.
  • When Commander Smith brought up King Tortoise and Queen Tortoise sinking the Daiyon Sakuramuru and them defeating Taro as an argument against them being calm animals, Kotaro rightfully pointed out that the only reason they sunk the former was because they were trying to get revenge on the poachers who ate and killed their babies.
  • When Captain Asahima started expressing concern whether or not he and the rest of ZAT would be able to successfully bring the Tortoise family back to Oron island, he reassured him that they would.
  • When ZAT realized that King Tortoise and Queen Tortoise didn’t want to endanger their babies, him, Kitajima, and Nishida instead chose to use ZAT’s blue whale to carry their eggs back so that they could lure them back to Oron Island in peace.
  • When Cammander Smith started ordering an attack on the Tortoise family on Oron Island, he briefly tried pleading with him over his communicator to stop it.
  • When Commader Smith’s assistant started blaming Captain Asahima and the rest of ZAT for the Tortoises rampage, he rightfully pointed out that it was Smith fault as he was the one who instigated their wrath in the first place by destroying their home and killing most of the remaining kids.
  • When Kenichi questioned where Taro and Seven had taken the Tortoise family, Kotoro clarified that they had taken them to space (specifically, the Star of Ultra since the tortoise family had lost their home).
  • Following this, when Saori started pondering whether or not they had found a happy home, Kotaro reassured her that they did.
  • During the beginning of episode 6, he gave Saori a necklace as a gift for her birthday.
  • Upon discovering that the necklace he had gave to Saori was gone and that Pochi had disappeared and that some of the things in her room and melted, he immediately brought the necklace to ZAT so that they could read the Egyptian readings as he had come to the conclusion that it had something to do with what was happening.
  • When Shaori refused to hand over the necklace to ZAT, he decided to spend a night with her under Aragaki’s advisory so that they he can guard her in case anything bad happened, all while the rest of ZAT did a chemical analysis of the substances they found at her house.
  • Upon hearing Shaori screaming, he quickly rushed in to save her.
  • Upon finding out that Shaori was getting attacked by Jirenma (a slug that had spawned from the necklace), he immediately started attacking with one ZAT’s guns. Though, when this accidentally made the Jirenma bigger, he quickly had Shaori run to safety.
  • While he did slap Shaori and call her stupid as they were on the run from Jirenma, he only did it out of stress due to her refusing to give him the necklace/talisman pedant, an artifact that Jirenma was trying to eat. Not helping much was that she had repeatedly ignored his warnings about its connection to Jirenma and had consistently dismissed it as a legend due to her not wanting it to be true. Despite this though, as soon as Saori started revealing her reasonings (i.e. she didn’t want him to be seen as the bad guy by the rest of ZAT and that she was gonna hand it to Jirenma herself so that she wouldn’t cause Kotaro anymore trouble), he quickly started calming down, even at one point expressing gratitude for her desire to help before later reassuring her that he was going to stop the monster himself. Following this, he then tried getting her to safety before eventually transforming into Taro so that she wouldn’t get killed.
  • Following Jirenma’s defeat, he later gave back to pendant to Shaori, as it was no longer affected by the monster’s curse.
  • In addition to this, he also decided to buy a Kenichi a new puppy after his previous dog was killed.
  • When Kenichi started wondering if his dad’s ship was going to be okay while out at sea (when lots of ships were starting to disappear) Kotaro quickly reassured him that his dad was gonna be fine due to him being at the Persian Gulf.
  • After accidentally scaring Shaori with a flashlight in an attempt to see if they would look like ghost lights, him and Kenichi immediately apologized.
  • Out of guilt for failing to save Jiro’s dad, he later convinced Akagaki to let him take his place in the investigation, this way him and Kitajima could save his dad and find all the people who disappeared.
  • Using one of ZAT’s underground drills, him and Kitajima managed to successfully force Tondaile into rising into the surface and revealing himself.
  • Upon noticing that Jiro was trying to attack Tondaile with a spear, he immediately got out of the drill vehicle to go save him and help him get to safety. During this, he informed Jiro that his dad was still alive and was being kept in a nest underground.
  • After revealing that his dad was okay, he made a promise to Jiro that he would save him.
  • Following this, he then had Jiro go with a police officer so that he could get to safety.
  • While chasing after Deparas, he managed to come up with a plan to lure him away from the city using a mirror. Because of this plan, him and ZAT were eventually able to temporarily defeat Deparas before he could cause any more damage.
  • While out on patrol, he managed to save a girl named Kanae from getting hit by a car.
  • Upon being told that Kanea couldn’t find her way home, he briefly began walking her around the neighborhood so that he could help her find it.
  • Upon being told by Moriyama that Karen was an orphan, he briefly brought her to the Shiratori’s house so that she could stay for a bit while he found her a home.
  • Fortunately, upon calling the orphanage that she had came from, he was eventually informed that she was adopted by the Iwatsubu family. With this knowledge in mind, he immediately brought her to them sothat they could reunite.
  • Upon realizing that the vines that attacked Kenichi and Moriyama were the same ones Kanea was carrying around, he immediately tried to contact the latter’s mother in order to warn her about.
  • When this failed, he instead had Moriyama contact other people in order to find out if the vines Kanea had given were the same ones as the one that attacked.
  • Upon trying to call Kanea’s adoptive mother again and hearing the bizarre noises made by Basara over the phone, he immediately left ZAP’s hq to go rescue her.
  • While on his way there, he managed to stop Kanea from giving the flowers to a group of kids.
  • Upon meeting with Kanea again, he politely tried asking her where she got the flowers from.
  • During the beginning of episode 12, he briefly took the time to answer Kenichi’s questions about the boat they were riding on.
  • Upon discovering that a kid named Takeshi Hyashida had stowed away on board their boat, him, Kenechi, and Saori all made agreement to keep it a secret.
  • Upon hearing from a friend of Takeshi’s Dad that his dad had gotten eaten by a monster, him and the rest of the ZAT started an investigation so that they could find him.
  • Upon realizing that Takeshi had gone to stop the monster (Volkellar), him and the rest of ZAT tried to stop him so that he wouldn’t hurt.
  • While fighting against Volkellar, he made a promise to Takeshi (before sending him to get to safety) that he would avenge his father.
  • Despite the fact that he got himself stuck on top of Volkellar’s horn while in the line of fire, he still encouraged the other ZAT members to continue shooting at it.
  • After accidentally getting a missile stuck in Sheltar’s tooth and later accidentally pulling out of its teeth, he immediately felt remorse for it and tried to make it up.
  • Upon realizing that Nambara’s mother was in danger of being killed by Sheltar, him and Nambara quickly went to the building she was at in order to save her.
  • As him and Nanbara were fighting against Sheltar, he briefly took the time to help Nambara’s mother retrieve her glasses.
  • Just Nambara and his mother were about to be killed by Sheltar, he quickly transformed into Taro in order to save them.
  • Upon finding out that Kenechi and Saori were near a construction site that had suffered an earthquake, he instinctively went with the ZAT to go see if they were okay.
  • When Kenechi admitted that he was having trouble writing an essay about his dead mom, Kotaro responded by suggesting he write about his sister Kaori.
  • While protecting Karuo from a group of people trying to tie her up, he eventually managed to catch up to her and clarify that her mother really was dead. Additionally, he also went on to clarify that her cause of her death was from a monster, one that Karuo had been hearing every time she went to the place where it went down.
  • After giving Karuo the context behind her mother’s death, he immediately went on to reassure her that ZAT would avenge her.
  • Following this, he advised her to get to safety.
  • Upon noticing that Karuo was dangling over a cable car, he immediately contacted the rest of ZAT to go and save her.
  • When Miegon started turning invisible, Kotaro managed to find a way to expose him by having the rest of ZAT spray staining gas on him, this way ZAT would be able to see him.
  • While at the Shiratori’s house, he encouraged.
  • Upon realizing that the flute Arihito had been playing earlier was attracting Okairyan, he immediately went to the stock yard (a place Arihito repeatedly visited) to try and warn him.
  • By letting Arihito play his grandfather’s old flute, he managed to exploit Okairyan’s attraction to it and lure him to another area.
  • Upon realizing that Takeshi had been blinded by a baby Kemujira that had come from a watermelon he gave him, he instantly felt remorse for it and later apologized to him while he was at his house.
  • Upon being revived by Mother of Ultra (alongside Taro), the first thing he did was reunite with Kenichi and apologize for worrying him.
  • In addition to this, he also went on to apologize to Takeshi and his dad as well while he visited them at the hospital.
  • While he did destroy Birdon’s eggs, it was to prevent them from growing up and causing more chaos in the future like it’s parent.
  • As ZAT was fighting Birdon, he managed to help Takeshi and his parents evacuate from the hospital that was nearby.
  • While him and the rest of ZAT were searching for a monster that had appeared in a village, he made a promise to Osugi that they wouldn’t hurt it if didn’t do anything bad (for context Osugi thought they were potentially going to kill a baby monster that was simply looking for its mother).
  • As King Zemira was accidentally destroying some buildings, Kotaro managed to rescue a boy named Shoichi.
  • In addition to this, he also manages to help him save his Cicadas.
  • Due to knowing how much Shochi cared for cicadas and due to knowing that King Zemira was peaceful, he ultimately chose to try and get rid of it peacefully. Because of this, he was able to convince ZAT into trying to contain it with a net rather than killing it.
  • During King Zemira’s rampage, he managed to prevent Shoichi from getting burned by its fire.
  • Upon reuniting with his old friend Fujinama’s , the first he did was congratulate him and his wife Yuko on their wedding.
  • When Fujinama started expressing guilt for in his mind ruining Kotaro’s summer break by calling him about a monster, Kotaro replied “What are you saying? We’re friends”, essentially reassuring him that he didn’t ruin anything and that he was there to help him no matter what.
  • Upon finding Yuko, he informed her that Fujinama had been worrying about her . After that, he later informed Fujinama himself so that he would know she’s okay.
  • Upon discovering that Pandora’s tail had been shot, he managed to successfully pull out one of the bullets and let her heal it in some water.
  • With the help of a tree branch, he managed to launch himself at Rodera and stop him from killing Rokuro’s parents.
  • When the help of 5 of the Iwamori siblings, he managed to find their 6th sibling Shiro while at stock yard.
  • As soon as Mururoa started appearing and going on a rampage, he had the 6 Iwamori siblings run back to their home so that they could get to safety.
  • Upon being informed by Mother of Ultra that the only way to stop Muroroa’s smoke clouds that were encasing earth was to get the Ultra key, he immediately transformed into Taro so that he could go to the land of light and retrieve it.
  • After successfully defeating Mururoa and bringing back the Ultra bell as Taro, Kotaro eventually went to check on the Iwamori siblings to see if they okay.
  • Upon being informed by Kenichi that Takeo’s father was in danger of being killed by Mukadendar, Kotaro had Kitajima evacuate all the children that were nearby while he went to save him.
  • With the help of Kenichi and Takeo, he managed to bring the latter’s father to safety.
  • Additionally, after this, he then Kitajima being Takeo’s father to a hospital.
  • By transforming into Taro as Mukadendar was throwing him and Takeo, he managed to save Takeo from falling to his death.
  • During the beginning of episode 27, he tried giving a bunch of kids who were playing baseball drinks.
  • When the hospital Fumio was at refused to let his friends meet him in doors, Kotaro brought Kenichi and friends there and had them wave and talk to him from outside the window he was in. (Albeit through Sign language).
  • Upon meeting Fumio face to face, he reassured him that he would recover from his polio.
  • When Fumio started believing he wouldn’t be able to walk again and play baseball due to the Mandarin disease, he tried to reassure him that this wasn’t the case.
  • Upon finding a girl that had been affected by the Mandarin flower on the streets (while patrolling at night), he immediately had Kitajima bring her to a hospital.
  • During the climax of episode 27, he managed to transform into Taro in the Nick of time just as Alien Mephilas 2 was about to kill Fumio and his mother.
  • After successfully managing to heal all the kids who were affected by the Mandarin flower, he later gave Fumio his baseball.
  • Upon being told by Kenichi that 3 boys named Tarzan, Sun Wukong, and Sasuke Sarutobi had been trying to create dentures using Eleking’s horns while in a cave, him and Kitajima immediately went to their location in order to prevent them from getting hurt.
  • With the help of Kenichi and Kitajima, he managed to free Tarzan, Sun, and Sasuke when they got trapped inside the tunnel.
  • Following this, he later contacted ZAT for backup.
  • Upon realizing that the Tarzan, Sun, Sasuke, and their grandfather were trapped in area that was surrounded by fire, he immediately began driving ZAT’s car so that he could distract Eleking.
  • Upon transforming into Taro to fight Eleking, the first thing he did was put out the flames that were surrounding them.
  • Despite the fact that Tarzan, Sun, and Sasuke had put themselves in harm's way, he still went on to forgive them as he knew they were only trying to help their grandfather.
  • Additionally, when they began apologizing to him for this act, he reasured them that they had done good as they were the reason he was able to defeat Eleking.
  • Following Eleking’s defeat, the first thing him and Kitajima did was buy the 3 boys dentures for their grandfather.
  • While riding his way home (during the beginning of episode 29), he briefly took the time to pick up Kenichi and bring him back home as well.
  • As Bemstar was attacking one of ZAT’s Hq, both he and Nambara tried to stop him.
  • Upon noticing that Kenichi was upset, him and Aragaki went to check up on him to see if he was okay.
  • When Kenichi expressed disappointment that ZAT failed to stop Bemstar killing Toru’s father Sano, he spent the remainder of episode 29 trying to make up for it.
  • When he noticed that Umino was trying to defeat Bemstar himself while on foot, he instantly began chasing after him as he knew Umino was going to get himself killed if he didn’t.
  • During the climax of episode 29, he managed to transform into Taro and save Umino from getting eaten by Bemstar.
  • Upon being told that Bemstar had escaped, he briefly tried to get out of the hospital he was in to try and join ZAT.
  • Despite how hurt he was from his first battle against Bemstar, he still chose to go into battle to save Umino.
  • When Saori questioned why he was doing this, he replied by saying that ZAT was the job he chose and that was likely going to be working there for the rest of his life. In other words, Kotaro knew how dangerous it was and that he felt like it was duty to continue despite that.
  • During the climax of episode 30, he managed to transform into Taro and save Umino from gettting killed by Bemstar.
  • Upon finding a paper belonging to a boy named Daisuke, he briefly went to return to him.

  • Because of this act, Don ultimately grew to like Ultraman more than the kaiju.
  • At the start of episode 33, him and Taro invite the 5 Ultra brothers for a barbecue.
  • Under Zoffy’s advisory, he attempted to lure to the first Alien Temperor away from Tokyo. The reason for this was so that he, Taro, and the rest of the Ultra brothers could fight him without causing a war zone in the city.
  • Upon meeting up with the rest of the ZAT members, he immediately apologized for coming late.
  • Upon realizing that realizing that Alien Temperor wouldn’t fall for him, he and Taro went back near a beach to alert to the rest of his brothers.
  • Despite being reluctant to fight Alien Temperor by himself, he eventually agreed to do so when the Ultra brothers pointed out the chaos that would happen if they all fought in the city.
  • When he thought the rest of the ZAT members had been killed by Alien Temperor, he immediately started blaming himself.
  • When the Ultra brothers took possession of the ZAT members and started suggesting Taro wasn’t strong enough to beat Alien Temperor and that Ultraman or Ultraseven would have to do it for him, Kotaro (thinking he was talking to the actual ZAT members) defensively responded by saying they were wrong. However, when Nambara (possessed by Jack) started asking what he meant by that, Kotaro (thinking he was almost giving away his identity) responded by claiming that he meant ZAT fighting Alien Temperor themselves and without having to rely on the Ultra brothers.
  • When the ultra brother possessed ZAT members rejected his plan to fight Alien Temperor by themselves, he defiantly responded that he understood but that he was gonna fight against Temperor himself if they weren’t.
  • Upon finding one of Eiichi’s Ultraman balls, he quickly transformed into Taro so that he could enter it (in a small form). Once inside it, he later let Eiichi throw it in the air so that he could go inside Alien Temperor’s body.
  • Upon entering the first Alien Temperor’s body, he and Taro quickly proceeded to enlarge themselves, thus defeating the Temperor agent in the process.
  • Overall, because of this Kotaro was able to learn how to fight tough enemies on his own without having to rely on the Ultra brothers.
  • Upon being congratulated by the other Ultra brothers for defeating Alien Temperor on his own, he graciously proceeded to thank them.
  • Throughout the majority of episode 34, he acts extremely arrogant and cocky after defeating the first temperor agent, even going so far as to ignore the Ultra brothers attempts to help in favor of taking on the 2nd agent all by himself. However, upon being captured and tortured by the second agent, he eventually subverts this and becomes more humbler, with ultimately learning the value of teamwork and the value of working as group.
  • By using the same ball technique that Kotaro and Taro used to take down the first agent on the second agent, him, Taro, and the other ultra brothers managed to preform a sneak attack while he was looking for them.
  • During the beginning of episode 35, he managed to stop the breaks of his car just as it was about to accidentally hit a little girl named Machiko (as she was rescuing a dog)
  • Following this, when Machiko started apologizing for what she did, he reassured her that what she did was good and that the only thing she had to do onwards was just be more careful when walking around cars.
  • Upon noticing that an alien was driving a car, he immediately began chasing after it order to stop it from potentially hurting someone.
  • When the alien that he chased accidentally injured Machiko while in a car crash, he immediately brought her to a hospital.

  • Upon being informed by the hospital that Machiko wanted him to stay by her side, he immediately went there as soon as possible to keep her company.
  • Upon finding Machiko’s Ultraseven doll broken and on the floor, he made a promise to her that he would get her a new one (specifically an ace doll) the next morning.
  • When the alien Katan possessed Machiko revealed that there was something she wanted, he responded by saying he’ll promise her anything.
  • Once Alien Katan grew giant size and began going on a rampage, he had Moriyama take Machiko to safety, all while encouraging her to leave him behind as he had come to believe he was responsible for putting her and Asahina in danger).
  • Additionally while encouraging her to leave him behind, he reassured her that he would be fine and she that didn’t need to worry about him.

  • In addition to this, while fighting the construction workers, he managed to pass Kiyohiko his gun, leading to the boy destroying the Grost statue and ultimately freeing the construction workers from his control.
  • By transforming into Taro (as Grost was enlarging himself), he managed to save Kiyohiko and the construction workers from getting killed.

  • During Alien Terrorist’s rampage, he managed to stop Hitomi from running into danger. After that, he then had Kenichi bring her to safety.

  • Additionally, whenever Takeshi would fall off his bike and get injured, he would always fix him up.
  • Furthermore, in the process of doing this, he managed to teach Takeshi how to become brave.
  • When he found out that his desire to teach Takeshi had been distracted while the Ultra brothers and ZAT were trying to contact him about Tyrant, he instantly felt remorse for it and tried to make up for it.
  • Despite this though, before leaving, he encouraged Takeshi to be brave, which ultimately gave Takeshi the help he needed to successfully ride his bike.
  • During the beginning of episode 42, he helped Moriyama get bird food fro her pet Parrot.
  • Upon reuniting with his old classmate, Shimada, he instantly began hanging out with him.

  • By transforming into Taro at the climax of episode 42, he managed to save Moriyama and Shimda’s younger brother Tomuyuki from falling to their deaths (after being dropped in a car by Seiko’s monster Eliga).

  • Additionally, by doing this, Ichiro was able to reunite with Jiro.

  • By transforming into Taro at the climax of episode 45, he managed to save Kitajima from getting killed by Memole.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • While usually merciful towards Kaiju with sympathetic reasons behind their rampage, he and Taro still had no problem with killing Sheltar in episode 13, mainly due to the fact that he and Taro considered him a threat, despite the fact that he was an innocent monster. In the episode itself, while holding Sheltar still, he and Taro had ZAT fire an underwater rocket filled with explosives into Sheltar’s mouth, causing him to explode. This was a completely unnecessary and pointless move on their part as by that point, Sheltar wasn’t really a threat anymore since he had already removed the rocket that had gotten stuck in his teeth that was making him mad and causing him to go on a rampage.
