“ | To defend the universe! | „ |
~ King Alfor’s motto and last words before his death. |
King Alfor is the posthumous overarching protagonist of Voltron: Legendary Defender. He was the king of planet Altea and a legendary alchemist who created the most powerful warrior ever known, the mech Voltron, 10,000 years ago from a mysterious trans-reality comet and used it to defend the universe for generations alongside his best friend Emperor Zarkon and other leaders. Upon Zarkon’s descent into evil, he sent the five lions of Voltron to the far corners of the universe with his daughter Princess Allura and advisor Coran and made a last stand against Zarkon that led to his death. Despite having died millennia ago, his actions would allow for five human explorers to awaken Princess Allura and Coran and become the new paladins of Voltron to defeat Zarkon once and for all.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He formed an agreement with Emperor Zarkon of Daibazaal and three other leaders to protect their system from all threats for years, becoming best friends with Zarkon and the others in the process.
- He discovered the comet that crashed on Daibazaal could traveled between realities and he discovered the endlessly powerful energy quintessence that existed in the barrier between realities from, appointing the best alchemist on Altea, Honerva, to lead the scientific expedition in experimenting with quintessence and planning to use it to provide an endless source of clean energy to the solar system.
- He erected a particle barrier with Honerva to contain the dark entities that emerged from the other reality and prevent them from slaughtering all in their path.
- He created 5 nigh-indestructible mechanical lion ships from the trans-reality comet, explaining to the others how the lions had a mind of their own and would psychically bond to them as the Red Lions did for him to become paladins and headed out with them to stop the dark entities to save the universe.
- Despite having created the most powerful weapons ever known, he wasn’t arrogant about his abilities and refused Zarkon’s offer to lead the team since he knew more about the Lions than anyone else, reminding Zarkon that he wasn’t a good military leader and that he was content with being Zarkon’s right hand.
- He saved Blayz from the dark entities.
- He led the team in combining their lions to form the robot Voltron, the most powerful warrior ever known, and used his bayard to form Voltron’s sword and destroy the dark entities, saving the universe.
- He defended the universe from harm with the other paladins for generations and promoted an age of unprecedented peace, exploration, and prosperity that would give Voltron its legendary name.
- He refused to join Zarkon and Honerva when the quintessence had begun to poison their minds and make them become power-hungry and immortality seeking but when a remorseful Zarkon asked for forgiveness after Honerva fell terminally ill and help in closing the quintessence rift, he forgave Zarkon and agreed to use Voltron to journey into the rift to close it as according to Zarkon. However, once he realized Zarkon had tricked them and the other paladins and went out into the rift by himself to try and heal Honerva, he defeated the dark entities that surrounded Voltron and got Zarkon and Honerva out of the rift with Voltron. Although it was too late, Zarkon and Honerva died from overexposure to quintessence.
- He fully evacuated planet Daibazaal which had fractured beyond repair and was on the brink of collapse due to Zarkon tricking the paladins into enlarging the rift and in order to close the rift and save the universe from the onslaught of the dark entities, he closed the rift the only way he could by destroying Daibazaal.
- Despite the fact that Zarkon had deceived him and recklessly caused the dark entities to nearly return and fractured Daibazzal, Alfor held a state funeral for Zarkon and Honerva in his royal hall.
- After Zarkon had been reborn, turned evil, and declared war to conquer the universe and capture Voltron to open a new rift between realities to get quintessence, Alfor realized Zarkon had become too powerful after he had already destroyed the other planets in the system and decided to scatter four of the lions across the universe and sealing the Black Lion in the Castle of Lions to prevent Zarkon from getting his hands on Voltron. He put Allura into stasis after stating his love for her and convinced Coran to go with her in the Castle of Lions which he installed an A.I into that contained his memories for the fateful day when new paladins of Voltron would arise to stop Zarkon once and for all.
- He led the paladins into battle once last time and bravely faced Zarkon before his infamous death.
- After the new paladins freed his spirit from Honerva’s control, he gave advice to Lance and told him how he was glad Allura chose him to be in a relationship with and happily reunited with Allura.
- He held no animosity towards Zarkon for killing him, his wife, the other paladins, destroying Altea and the whole solar system not to mention countless planets after that for 10,000 years, conquering the universe, and committing an endless scale of atrocities when he encountered Zarkon’s spirit within Honerva’s mind and redeemed Zarkon after he felt remorse when Allura gave him back his memories by convincing him to lead the original and new paladins in forming Voltron so the new paladins could escape Honerva’s mind.
- He returned with the original paladins, Zarkon, and Lotor to accompany Allura and Honerva into the afterlife when they sacrificed themselves to restore the multiverse.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite his low screen time, he still fails the admirable standard to Coran who saved the multiverse and had considerably lower resources than him.
