Kenai is the main protagonist of Disney's 44th full-length animated feature film Brother Bear and its 2006 sequel Brother Bear 2.
He is the younger brother of Sitka and Denahi, the adoptive older brother of Koda, and the husband of Nita. He is the youngest of three brothers who gets turned into a bear, to teach him to see through their eyes.
In the first film, he is voiced by Joaquin Phoenix, who also played Merill Hess in Signs. In the sequel he was voiced by Patrick Dempsey, who also played Robert Philip in Enchanted and Dr. Derek Shepard in Grey's Anatomy.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good[]
In General[]
- Though he started off as a big jerk and arrogant, not accepting his totem as a bear, he eventually became a much better character throughout the course of the first film.
- Despite killing Koda's mother to avenge his oldest brother Sitka, who died, he felt great remorse for doing so, and learned a valuable lesson by the end of his journey in the first film.
- Although he started off as an anti-hero, lethal and xenophobic towards bears, he ends up subverting all this as he spares Atka's life despite attacking them and above all how he decided to stay as a bear to be able to be with Koda.

Brother Bear[]
- Tried to recover the basket stolen by the bear.
- He tried to help Denahi up when the bear pushed him through the crack in the glacier.
- He went after Sitka when it was covered by the glacier.
- He calmed Rutt and Tuke down when they thought he was going to eat them.
- He promised to take Koda to the Salmon run, after he helped him.
- After he argued with Koda he quickly repents and goes after him.
- Save Koda when Denahi tries to kill them.
- He tried to help Denahi when he saw that she was jumping to the other side of the ravine, risking his life.
- Even if he didn't seem too fond of Koda at first, they started to get along much better together when hanging out during their journey to the salmon run, and became his big bear brother.
- He told Koda the truth about him killing his mother, even if he wouldn't like hearing the story.
- Fought back against Denahi trying to kill him not realizing it was him as a bear, and luckily Koda came to save him, despite the fact he killed his mother, forgiving him for it.
- After he turned back into a human upon learning his lesson, he wanted to turn back into a bear permanently to be there for Koda because he needed him.
Brother Bear 2[]
- Protected Koda from the random hunter, happening to be Nita trying to look for Kenai, but when he realized it was her, he put her down, and told her that it was him.
- Even though he made a promise to Koda to be his brother forever, he went with Nita on another journey to burn the special amulet.
- He tried to help Rutt and Tuke conquer Anda and Kata.
- He located Bering's lair when he takes the amulet.
- He helped Nita get down from the tree, saving her from the raccoons.
- Although he was somewhat disciplined with Koda, it was because he was making fun of Nita and her fear, and then Kenai would console her.
- Although he had a somewhat tense relationship with Nita at first, they would eventually become close again.
- When Koda runs away, Kenai desperately begins searching for him.
- He promises Koda that he will never leave him.
- Saved Koda from Atka and his hunters, protecting his little brother, sadly getting knocked off the cliff, but was lucky to still be alive.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Although he shedded most of his corrupting qualities at the end of the first film, he can still act like a jerk sometimes, especially towards Nita in the sequel.
