- Tried to convince Hopper to let him go search for Will at Lonnie's.
- Even after Hopper refused, he still went and also confronted Lonnie about his absence and lack of care for his children.
- He confronted Joyce regarding her illogical and crazy behavior around Will's body (while she was right, there was no way he could have known and from an outside perspective he was right to confront her).

- He comforted Will over the nicknames they gave him in school.
- Let Will go trick-or-treating on his own knowing how much it meant.
- He took the drunken Nancy home from Tiffany's party and covered for Steve, even though he wasn't asked to do neither.
- He and Nancy worked together so they could expose the threat of Hawkins Lab, by recording Owens and working with Murray to reveal a twisted truth of the actual events so the lab could be shut down without the world learning of the Upside Down.

- He went with Nancy and his mother to exorcise Will and force the Mind Flayer out of him.
Season 3[]
- Comforted Nancy over her mistreatment from the workers at the Hawkins Post.
- Despite his own doubts, he tried to help Nancy pursue a story regarding Mrs. Driscoll's rat infestation (unknowingly becoming involved with the Upside Down again).
- Though he snapped at Nancy it was slightly justifiable given that she pressured him to participate in her story which ended up costing him his means to support his family.
- He teamed up with the party again to investigate the return of the Upside Down.

- He and the others went to search for Suzie so she could help them decode Nina's number and find El, and they arrived just in time to leave before Sullivan could catch up.
- Helped build a sensory deprivation tank in a pizza freezer so that El could go fight Vecna in Max's mind.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Fails the admirable standards of the series to several other characters who have less resources and manage to be more admirable and other characters who contribute a lot more to the defeat of the monsters.
- He is too dishonest at times, such as hiding the fact that he doesn't want to go to college with Nancy and not telling her when the chance presented itself.
- In Season 4, he has begun to consistently smoke weed with Argyle and hiding it from Joyce, even lying to El that it was good because the plants were "from the Earth".
- In Season 1, Jonathan took photographs of Steve's house party without their permission in a way that equated to stalking. In particular, one photograph showed Nancy in a semi-nude state. While Steve and his gang where somewhat harsh in breaking Jonathan's camera, they had every right to call Jonathan out for taking the stalker photos.
- He can be wrathful and needlessly violent as shown when he beats Steve in ferocity and savagery, although it is understandable, because Steve insulted his mother and said offensive comments about his brother (who was missing at the time). Jonathan's reaction was still a bit too extreme as he kept ruthlessly beating him even after he was on the ground and bleeding heavily, to the point he was arrested due to the severity of the assault.
