Jonathan Brisby is one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside Nicodemus) of the 1982 film The Secret of NIMH.
Jonathan was the deceased husband of Mrs. Brisby and father of Teresa, Martin, Cynthia and Timothy. His voice was never heard. He was the bravest of all of the 20 rats and 11 mice of NIMH. Without his bravery, none of them would have survived escaping through the ventilation system. He was, according to a journal Nicodemus wrote, killed while drugging Farmer Fitzgibbons' cat, Dragon.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He was a devoted husband to Mrs. Brisby and raised his children with her.
- Upon him and Mr. Ages surviving escaping NIMH, he frees the 20 rats from NIMH, allowing their freedom.
- When the rats tried to escape to Thorn Valley to live freely, Jonathan volunteered to drug Dragon to do so for four years until his death.
- He took care of the amulet before leaving it in the care of Mrs. Brisby, which indirectly caused it to save Mrs. Brisby's children and Auntie Shrew.
- He chose not to tell Mrs. Brisby about NIMH because the effects from the experiments slowed his aging and didn't want her to be bothered by it.
- He had next to no resources when he crossed his Goodness Zone.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He lacks enough characterization as he does not have a single line of dialogue and only appears for a few moments in a flashback.
