“ | Sure, you do the wrong thing sometimes, but we all do. That doesn't make us bad people, it just makes us people. | „ |
~ Johanna discussing morality |
Johanna is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Twig) in Netflix's animated series, Hilda, based on the graphic novels of same name by Luke Pearson.
She is the loving and protective mother of Hilda. While she often wants Hilda to remains safe and out of harm's way, she will still help her in important situations. She is caring and supportive, but at times she can worry too much about Hilda not having any "normal" friends her age. Since she lived in Trolberg for a good portion of her childhood, she has a soft spot for the city, and had much less trouble with moving there than Hilda did.
She was voiced by Daisy Haggard.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- She continuously assists Hilda in her endeavors and has helped the latter with some of her greatest actions by driving to the correct locations.
- While she acted like a jerk on a few occasions, such as by kicking the Raven out of her home, she apologized to almost everyone she harmed and subverted her worse qualities.
- While she initially shows prejudice towards Nisse, she eventually warms up to Tontu and her apartment's former Nisse, and presumably the rest of them.
- She has attempted to save Hilda's life multiple times, such as from trolls or the lake creature.
- She helps Hilda by driving Jellybean out of Trolberg in her car.
- While she did ground Hilda, she only did so after the latter risked her life without telling her.
- She risks her life to save Twig from a two-headed troll.
- She takes Hilda camping to cheer her up after her father vanishes.
- She saves Hilda and her friends from the fairy mound.
- She goes into the fairy mound again in an attempt to rescue Hilda in the finale.
- Although she is tempted to stay in the fairy isle with her parents, she ultimately leaves for Hilda's sake.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- Ironically, she ultimately fails the standards of the story to her daughter, despite standing out by assisting her. This is because she is an adult with driving capabilities in addition to her athletic and survival skills, while her daughter is thirteen. As such, Johanna has more resources than Hilda does.
