His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Saved María's father, General Posada from a rampaging pig.
- He cheers Manolo on when he uses his bullfighting abilities to battle the pig.
- While offscreen, he saved multiple nearby towns from bandits, being known as the "Hero of San Angel".
- He is affable to Manolo despite both knowing they like María, saying it is quite a family burden each of them carry in their own ways.
- He isn't mysognistic, as despite agreeing to several condescencing hypothesis María brought up, he wasn't hearing because of how in llove he was with her. When one of his soldiers makes a misogynistic comment, Joaquín punches him across the room.
- He battles Chackal's army during their first raid and has them go away from San Angel.
- Gives María her hat from her kid days that he took care of, sharing a fond moment with her and asking her to think about his proposal, showing he isn't entitled or possesive; rather he geniunely loves her.
- He is distraught at the vision of María's dead body, asking why didn't Manolo protect her.
- He asks María's father to not pressure her with the marriage by using the city as a blackmail, knowing Manolo's death is something difficult and marrying Joaquín is the last thing on María's mind now, even if he is happy when General Posada ignores him and María accepts.
- Was ready to decline the marriage, knowing María did not want to marry him truly, showing how he mautred.
- Got ready to fight Chackal's army once they got to San Angel's doors.
- Begged Chackal, after he lost the Medal of Everlasting Life, to allow María and the rest of San Angel's townspeople to go unharmed, only getting him.
- Fought against Chackal's army alongside María, Manolo, San Angel's population and Manolo's undead family.
- When he and Manolo were trying to push Chackal under a bell so his suicide bombing didn't destroy San Angel, he put the Medal of Everlasting Life on Manolo's back, planning to push Chackal in and die while Manolo could live. In the end, however, both were left alive as Manolo go Joaquín out at the last second, but Joaquín sacrificial intentions still hold up.
- Is happy for Manolo and María engaging at the end of the movie.
- Lost a high amount of his corrupting qualities, such as being a big jerk over his rivarly with Manolo or being extremly arrogant and self absorbed.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- It is not clear how much he subverted his idiotic behavior, as he has some harsh moments and even brutal ones, such as punching a misogynistic soldier across the room, Sword-fighting Manolo, which risked hitting him and coldly claiming Manolo should have died in place of María.
- He still has some smugness and arrogance, seen when he went to fight Chakal and condescendingly told María to wait.
