His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

- He outsmarts Nomura by making her attack the goblins and defeats her.
- Once he defeats Draal in a duel, instead of killing him like everyone, including Draal, insists he does, he spares his life which causes Draal to become his protector and they become close friends.
- He defeats Gladysgroe and although he accidentally kills her, which is his first kill, it was in self-defense as Blinky points out.
- He realizes that Claire's brother Enrique had been swapped with a changeling and exposes NotEnrique and captures him.
- He apologizes to Claire for trashing her house even though it wasn't his fault but NotEnrique's.
- He defeats the Stalkling that was sent to kill him by Bular.
- He figures out that Strickler is a changeling when Bular calls him "Young Atlas" which is Strickler's nickname for him.
- He comes up with a plan to have Blinky, AAARRRGGHH!!!, Toby, and a captive NotEnrique infiltrate Strickler's office to find information that could help them free Enrique from the Darklands and where the Killahead Bridge is while he distracts Strickler at his date with his mom. The team finds a mini-portal called the fetch which they use to send Gnome Chompsky in to find where Enrique is being held.
- He rescues Claire from goblins, revealing to her his secret double life and the existence of trolls. He then tells Claire to run for her life away from Nomura while he fends her off, getting severely injured and nearly captured in the process.
- He was willing to free Gunmar in order to save Blinky's life from Bular but in reality, he called Draal, Toby, and AAARRRGGHH!!! as a backup to free Blinky and stop Bular.
- He defeats Bular, avenging Kanjigar's death.

- Alongside his friends, he stops a group of gnomes who stole his Spanish teacher, Señor Uhl's, car.
- He refuses to kill Draal when he was corrupted by Gunmar even when he was at the threat of dying.
- When he is in the alternate reality made by the Amulet, Jim decides to fight against Gunmar even though he didn't have the Amulet's power.
- Even though Blinky encourages him to lie to the tribunal, Jim accepts full responsibility for freeing Gunmar even though it was an accident, and is willing to face death from Queen Usurna and the tribunal.
- He refuses Usurna's deal of destroying the amulet in exchange for all charges being dropped against him, deciding that he would rather die and let the amulet choose another Trollhunter, rather than selfishly save his own skin.
- He escapes the Deep and goes to the Janus Order, where he defeats "Gunmar", which is really a possessed Otto. Once he realizes Gunmar is at Trollmarket, he heads back there and holds off the Gumm-Gumms with AAARRRGGHH!!! to protect the evacuation of Trollmarket.
- He helps encourage Claire when she was making a large portal that could kill her to save her friends and the surviving members of Trollmarket.
- He gives Vendel's staff to Blinky and appoints him leader of Trollmarket, encouraging him to succeed Vendel.
- After AAARRRRGGHH!!! discovers Gunmar's plan of bringing on the Eternal Night, Jim tells him to go back to Trollmarket to keep spying on Gunmar.
- He holds off the Gumm Gumms once their new headquarters are discovered and refuses to kill a brainwashed Draal.
- He encourages Claire to get rest when she gets a severe cold (in reality Morgana's influence).
- He defeats two of the burglars that kidnapped Toby and Detective Scott.
- He refuses to kill Strickler when he is brainwashed by Gravesand and instead breaks through his brainwashing by reminding him of his love for Jim's mother Barbara.
- He breaks Claire free from Morgana's trance.
- He tells his mom the truth once confronted and apologizes for lying to her and convinces Claire and Toby to tell their parents/guardians the truth.
- He destroys the amulet to get to Merlin's tomb to get his help to defeat Morgana.
- He frees a now unbrainwashed Draal and gives his mechanical arm back and assures him that he didn't fail his mission to protect him as Gunmar was the one who brainwashed him into attacking Jim.
- He uses the amulet stone to wake up Merlin.
- He redeems Angor Rot by reminding him of the hero he used to be.

- He saves Callista, real name Deya, from being killed by a knight.
- He convinces the Dwoza trolls not to kill or torture AAARRRGGHH!!!, but instead redeem him.
- He assures Callista that the amulet chose her to be the first Trollhunter for a reason and encourages her to accept her destiny.
- He escorts Deya to the Killahead Bridge with Steve and tells her to use the amulet to activate a portal to the Darklands, banishing Gunmar and the Gumm Gumms for 900 years.
- He rescues the rest of the Guardians of Arcadia by sacrificing his humanity by pushing the onyx shard into his chest to become a full troll to buy time for the others to escape, while he fights the Green Knight.
- He fights off Bellroc to try and stop her from kidnapping Nari.
- He gets happy when he learns that Strickler and his mother are getting married, and accepts to be the latter's best man during their wedding.
- He opens the exit to the Stone Carver Bridge so Blinky, Claire, Archie, and Charlemagne could escape, injuring his hand in the process.
- He realizes that Nari's message of the Ninth Configuration meant all the Guardians of Arcadia needed to put their hands on the Excalibur to pull it out and use its stone to power the new amulet.
- Once Toby depowers her, Jim kills Bellroc to save the universe from complete annihilation. This isn't corrupting, as he offered Bellroc the chance to surrender, which she declined, and he had to save the universe. Unlike his killing of Gunmar, this wasn't out of revenge, but rather out of duty.
- Concluding that the Nari meant that the Krohnisfere would reverse all the events that had just transpired including Toby's death, he uses it to go back to the beginning to reverse the deaths of many heroes, make Toby the new Trollhunter, and assure a better future for everyone since he was the only one who knew of the events from the future.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Although most of his kills are in self-defense, he does have some lethal moments such as:
- Wanting to kill Strickler for dating his mom and lying about who he is.
- Killing the deceptive troll Porgon in cold blood to stop him from reversing time over and over again to annoy Team Trollhunters.
- Even though killing Gunmar was for the good of the world and had to be gotten rid of, part of his motivation was to "give Gunmar the payback he deserves," or in other words, kill him out of revenge.
- He can be a liar at times.
- He betrays the deal he made with Angor Rot to get the Inferna Copula in exchange for Angor defeating Strickler even though Angor was sincere so that he could take the Inferna Copula for himself to control Angor Rot. Though to make a prevention in his own defense, he was partly encouraged by Claire to control him and panicked if he could actually trust Angor Rot at all, as he didn't know Angor's entire backstory at that point.
- He consistently lies to his mother Barbara Lake so that she would not know about his double-life as a Trollhunter, even though she was getting increasingly concerned for his safety. When she is at the hospital, Jim breaks the promise he made earlier that he would tell her about his double life after she loses her memories, and lies that she bumped her head and he drove her to the hospital. While he does eventually tell her the truth, it is only because Toby's grandmother and Claire's parents were also getting on his case and they were all getting sick of his lies.
- He makes reckless decisions such as:
- Going into the Darklands by himself and making the decision to become a troll without consulting his friends or mother. The former decision was especially reckless since it leads to the release of Gunmar when the rest of the team goes to rescue him.
- Despite him going back in time out of good intentions, it still shows that he was immature in that he was unable to accept Toby's death and move on from it. This decision also potentially wiped Steve and Aja's kids from existence, along with every time the Guardians saved the world together and interacted, not to mention that he completely disregarded his lesson in "Unbecoming" in why he was chosen as the Trollhunter, and no one else. However, this is a minor prevention because he didn't just go back in time for Toby and the other's sake, but innocent people were caught in their crossfire and worldwide chaos would've ensued, so this action wasn't completely immature nor out of reason.
- Doing nothing to stop Steve's bullying upon traveling back in time, and instead allows him to continue to shove Eli in the locker and not give a thought about it because he thinks Toby is going to give everyone a better ending, even though he might not.
