“ | The Whisperers were my... family... from a young age. In that time, I witnessed a lot of death and suffering. Eventually, I became the cause of it. Weakness was considered a poison. And I believed in that. Fiercely. So much so, that when one boy expressed sympathy for our enemy before an attack... I slit his throat. I didn't talk to him. I didn't consider who he was. What he felt. Honestly, I don't even remember his name. All I knew was someone like him would only slow us down. (...) After he died, I kept hearing his words in my head: "Those people are like us, just on a different path." I stopped killing after that. I changed. But no one else did. | „ |

His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- In his past, while he was a member of The Whisperers, he was a ruthless killer who would kill anyone who showed weakness without feeling a thing. But after he hear some words from his fellow Whisperer who is being killed by James, he ultimately redeemed himself and started to be a pacifist. And when the Whisperers attacked another group, James did not want to be a part of it and decided to leave the Whisperers. He tried to convince his ex-boyfriend Charlie to come with him and to leave the Whisperers behind, Charlie rejected James.
- Overall, he is an extremely pacifist individual who does not want people being killed, including people even if they deserve, and even zombies.
- Sends a herd of walkers to save Clementine from Abel and Lilly.
- Helps Clem remove the shrapnels from AJ's abdomen and patch him up.
- If Clem declares her wish to kill Abel and Lilly, James warns her against being vengeful.
- Proposes to keep watch for Clem and AJ before escorting them back to the Ericson's School.
- Through convincing from Clem or AJ, he accepts to lend them a herd of walkers to save their friends.
- Warns Clem against letting AJ kill again, fearing he would fall into a wrathful path.
- Disarms Gina when she was about to kill AJ. After he beats her in a fight by wrestling away her rifle and knocking her to the ground, he chooses to toss aside the captured weapon rather than use it to finish her off.
- Tries to keep AJ from killing Lilly. While it backfires on him if he succeeds, James had purely heroic motivations for doing so.
- (If alive in "Take Us Back") Helps Clem, AJ and Tenn fight off walkers pursuing them.
- (If alive in "Take Us Back") If Clem manages to talk him down, James acknowledges his wrongdoings and fights dozens of walkers by himself to allow Clem and the others to escape.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- (If alive in "Take Us Back") He assaults Clementine in an attempt to kidnap AJ. While he did so out of concern for AJ falling into the same path he did once, the fact James was willing to force his peaceful ways onto him remains a strong enough prevention.
