What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
After his second encounter with Angstrom Levy, Mark comes to the realization that lethal force is necessary when dealing with some villains. While it isn't too corrupting since Mark typically uses lethal force on villains that are too dangerous or irredeemable, Mark does go too far at times. For example:
Shortly after this realization, Mark kills Rus Livingston, an actual innocent man who was merely a pawn used by the Sequids, as Robot acknowledges.
He killed one of Thragg's children, Onaan, solely to spite him, and while Thragg is entirely evil, his son didn't deserve this. However, it is likely because Thragg had just killed his brother in front of him, and he seems to hesitate doing the act as well do this is a minor prevention.
He can sometimes be wrathful and jerkish to the point where he lashes out at others at unnecessary times, such as being angry at Allen during Oliver's funeral.
As Cecil points out, Mark is hypocritical about (some of) his views about regarding redemption and criminals in general. The most notable case of this is when he kept judging Darkwing II for his criminal past, disregarding that he had undergone rehabilitation and saved his life.
Trivia[]
Mark and Movincihawk Rudy are so far the only Near Pure Goods in Invincible.
Ironically enough, Mark and Movincihawk are in opposite ends of the moral spectrum, being NPG and NPE respectively.
It is currently uncertain whether his version in the Amazon Prime show will also be considered Near Pure Good, as his character arc is still ongoing. He could turn out to be Near Pure Good like his comic book counterpart, become Inconsistently Admirable due to various corrupting factors, or shed those corrupting elements and become Pure Good instead.
