| “ | My name is Ichigo Kurosaki. I'm 15 years old, so I'm a high school student. My family runs a medical clinic here in town. Maybe it's because we're entrusted with the lives of the living, I'm not sure, but for as long as I can remember, I've been able to see the souls of the dearly departed. | „ |

| “ | I'm not saying I don't remember your blade. I'm saying I don't remember your heart. When you cross blades, you can tell a little of what your opponent's thinking. I'm not saying you can read their mind or anything like that, but you can tell what kind of resolve lies behind their blade, whether they respect you or look down on you. That kind of thing, you can tell. When I'm actually fighting, there's no time to think about it, so I don't usually realize until afterwards, but in general, the stronger the opponent is, the more of that "heart" seems to come across. | „ |

| “ | Zangetsu, I won't ask you to 'lend me your power' any more. And I won't tell you 'don't get in my way'. I won't even say 'let us fight together'. I'll fight for myself. Thank you, Zangetsu. You are me. | „ |

Ichigo Kurosaki (黒崎 一護 Kurosaki Ichigo) is the main protagonist of the Bleach franchise. He is the son of Isshin Kurosaki and his late mother, Masaki Kurosaki. He gains the powers of a Soul Reaper after Rukia Kuchiki transfers her powers to him and is later revealed to also have Quincy powers as well due to his mother having been a Quincy herself. He is very protective of his friends and constantly wants to protect them from danger if possible.
He is voiced by Masakazu Morita as an adult, and Yuki Matsuoka as a child in the Japanese version of the anime, and by Johnny Yong Bosch as a adult, (who also voices Giyu Tomioka in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Vash the Stampede in Trigun, and Nero in Devil May Cry), and Mona Marshall as a child in English.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Ichigo is shown to be a very selfless person throughout the story as he was always more than willing to risk his own life to save his friends from danger.
- After becoming a Substitute Soul Reaper, Ichigo assists Rukia by stopping the Hollows from terrorizing people in Karakura Town.
- When he found out that Rukia was forced to return to the Soul Society and that she will be executed, Ichigo makes it his mission to go to the Soul Society himself and save her. To do so, he endured a vicious and borderline life-threatening training from Kisuke Urahara so that he could regain his lost Soul Reaper powers that he would need in order to save her.
- Ichigo risks his life fighting against several Shinigami in his goal to prevent Rukia's execution, having to fight against multiple high-ranking Soul Reaper officers like Ikkaku Madarame & Renji Abarai and even Captain level opponents like Kenpachi Zaraki & Byakuya Kuchiki all to try and reach Rukia.
- Ichigo was also very merciful during this part of the story as he was against killing Ikkaku or Renji despite having bested them, even treating the former with the ointment he had on him even though he could've used it for himself.
- Though Ichigo was seemingly being rude to Rukia when he reunited with her, this was meant to show his commitment to saving Rukia rather than being mean to her since he told the latter that he would save her even if she herself didn't want him to.
- While he was initially angry at Yoruichi for taking him away instead of helping him fight, he was only upset because she could've used that opportunity to take Rukia away instead since the Soul Society was trying to execute her.
- After Yoruichi reveals the Bankai release to him and explains how he can obtain it, Ichigo begins to actively train against his own zanpakuto so that he can learn bankai and become powerful enough to save Rukia. Ichigo later learned the bankai in two days instead of three once he was informed by Yoruichi that Rukia's execution date was changed to tomorrow which shocked even the former due to her uncertainty of it being possible or not.
- After finally achieving bankai, Ichigo arrives just in time to prevent the Sogyoku from killing Rukia. Even though the latter refused to be saved by him, Ichigo merely reminds Rukia that he's going save her rather she likes it or not and doesn't get upset at all when Rukia says she's not going to thank him for saving her.
- While he did throw Rukia at Renji, this was a comedic moment played for laughs, and he knew Renji was going to catch her anyways. Also, since he and Rukia were both several stories in the air when this happens and surrounded by captains & lieutenants of the Gotei 13, it made sense for Ichigo to throw her.
- Though he did attack three Gotei 13 lieutenants, it was only because they chased Rukia & Renji and he had to make sure they could escape. He also only used enough force to knock them all out and even put his sword down so that they would be able to recover later.
- Ichigo has an all-out fight against Byakuya Kuchiki and was fully determined in stopping him from carrying out Rukia's execution himself. After their fight concluded, Ichigo said that if he were in Byakuya's shoes, he wouldn't just save Rukia but fight the very law itself, prompting the latter to realize that Ichigo was never truly against him at all, but instead the law of the Soul Society.
- Ichigo returns to Sogyoku hill to rescue Rukia once more and even ends up saving Renji from Sōsuke Aizen as well, where he also finds out that Rukia's entire execution was orchestrated by him.
- He fights against Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and his fraccion after they arrived to the world of the living tries to stop them from causing harm to the people there since their mission was to annihilate any being with even a trace of spirit power under Grimmjow's orders.
- Ichigo goes on a mission to Hueco Mundo along with his friends to save Orihime Inoue from the Espada and Aizen. He ends up risking his life fighting very powerful Espada like Grimmjow Jaegerjaquez and Ulquiorra Cifer to save and protect Orihime.
- When being informed by Ulquiorra that Rukia was fatally injured during her fight with Aaroniero Arruruerie, he leaves before saying he's going to rescue the latter. He then tells Ulquiorra that he wouldn't fight him since he didn't hurt any of his friends yet.
- While he did abruptly attack Ulquiorra once the latter revealed he made Orihime come to Hueco Mundo, this was an understandable reaction since those actions are exactly what caused the Soul Society to perceive her as a traitor and why they initially didn't aid in rescuing her at the time.
- After his narrow victory against Grimmjow, he didn't kill the latter and even said he would fight him again at any time if he would admit defeat. When the latter was suddenly ambushed by Nnoitora Gilga, one of his own subordinates and tries to kill him, Ichigo interferes and saves Grimmjow, calling out the former for attacking an injured person who can hardly stand.
- Even though he was fatigued from his battle against Grimmjow, he still fought against Nnoitora to protect Orihime and Nel. He also didn't turn his back on Nel when the former revealed she was a part of Aizen's army due to being a former Espada.
- After being fully healed, Ichigo went straight back to rescue Orihime and rematch Ulquiorra who was holding her captive. He then engaged in a lengthy duel against Ulquiorra all for the sake of protecting Orihime.
- Even once Ulquiorra began overpowering him in almost every possible way after revealing his true power, Ichigo never let go of his sword once because he refused to give up and wasn't going to let the fact that his opponent is stronger than him stop him from fulling his mission, a belief he held even in his "death".
- While Ichigo did go on a rampage after becoming fully hollowified which resulted in him brutally defeating Ulquiorra and nearly killing Uryu Ishida, this was not his fault as he couldn't stop his hollow side's influence anymore since he was pretty much dead at the time and felt remorse for all the actions his hollow half did after Ulquiorra defeated him.
- When Ulqiorra challenged Ichigo for one last battle, he refused and stated he would only go through with this if Ulquiorra cripples him as well to make the fight fair. Furthermore, when Ulqiorra requested for Ichigo to kill him since he was already dying anyway and their fight would be forever unsettled if he didn't deal the finishing blow, the latter refused since he didn't want to defeat him that way.
- Ichigo was gravely affected by Ulqiorra's death as even Rukia noticed that his eyes weren't that of someone who was triumphant and could only wonder what happened to him above Las Noches' canopy. During his fight against Yammy Llargo, he calls the latter out for disrespecting his subordinates due to proclaiming he's stronger than all of them. He states that while he doesn't regret that he defeated them, he shouldn't disregard their deaths the way he did.
- Ichigo later returns to the Fake Karakura Town to fight against Sōsuke Aizen directly and was instrumental in defeating him. With Aizen having been defeated, Ichigo saved not only Karakura Town, but also the 13 Court Guard Companies as a whole, and the entire world as well. Aizen was later arrested by the Soul Society and imprisoned to prison underground level 8: the Muken, for 20000 years.
- After being tricked by Kugo Ginjo and the Fullbringers, Ichigo takes it upon himself to stop Ginjo in his plans to go against the 13 Court Guard Squads.
- Ichigo fights against the Wandenreich when they invaded the Seireitei to wreak havoc on the Soul Society.
- While imprisoned by Quilge's jail on his way to the Soul Society, Ichigo tried with all his might to break the impenetrable prison while begging the 13 Court Guard Squads to hold on long enpugh for him to protect them. It was later revealed that Ichigo exerted so much effort into breaking out the Jail that he subconsciously tapped into the deeper layers of his soul and unlocked his Quincy heritage.
- Upon entering the Soul Society, he immediately took Akon (someone who helped him break out the Jail) to where he could get medical treatment and went to see Byakuya Kuchiki one last time to reassure him that Rukia and Renji are both alive and fully listens to him in presumably his final moments which concludes with him asking Ichigo to protect the Soul Society. Afterwards, Ichigo heads straight for the Quincy leader, Yhwach and battles him. Even when pushed to his limit, he refused to let Yhwach get away and was determined to make him pay for what he and the other Quincies did to the Soul Society.
- Ichigo continues to train to understand himself and Zangetsu. When he realized that Zangetsu was connected to Yhwach, the man who murdered his mother, Ichigo did not hold anything against Zangetsu at all.
- After discovering Uryu's betrayal and that he joined Yhwach and the Sternritters, he didn't hold any grudges against him at all and only intended to "slap some sense" into him and bring him back to their side. When he is later forced to fight Uryu while trying to save the Soul King, the latter states he had an opportunity to kill him, and Ichigo merely responds by saying they both know he would never try to kill him.
- He continues to fight against Yhwach to stop him from destroying the World of the Living, Soul Society, and Hueco Mundo which would have killed all life in all worlds. While he was not successful in his second attempt to stop Yhwach, Ichigo manages to defeat him with the help of Uryu, Renji, and Aizen, saving all three worlds.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can be a jerk at times. While it is shown to be comedic in many instances, some instances have him being seriously rude to his friends and allies whenever he feels annoyed by them.
Trivia[]
- He and Rukia Kuchiki are currently the only Near Pure Good heroes from Bleach so far.
- Fittingly, both of their preventions are their occasional jerkish moments which are sometimes to each other.
