We didn't set out to be superheroes. But, sometimes life doesn't go the way you planned. The good thing is, my brother wanted to help a lot of people and that's what we're going to do. Who are we? BIG HERO 6!
~ Hiro's ending monologue in the first movie.
We've gotta catch that guy. But first... you're gonna need some upgrades.
~ Hiro, before creating the first version of Baymax's armor.

Hiro Hamada is the main protagonist of Disney's Big Hero 6 franchise. He is the main protagonist of Disney's 54th full-length animated feature film Big Hero 6, and its sequel series Big Hero 6: The Series. He is also a supporting character in Baymax!.

He is an extremely intelligent, yet misguided, young teen from the city of San Fransokyo, who used his intellect to participate and win the illegal botfights, until he is put in the right path by his brother Tadashi, who convinces him to enter the same institute of technology he entered and use his abilities for the best. After thinking a lot about a project special enough to enter the institute, he created the microbots, an army of thousands of versatile mini-robots who do anything that ordered by who's wearing a special neuro-transmissor. Despite managing to enter the institute, a tragic fire happened, which caused the loss of Tadashi.

Depressed, Hiro discovered that his brother's greatest invention, Baymax, a medical robot with more than 10.000 medical and healthcare procediments installed in him, was in his room, and, because of Baymax misunderstanding Hiro's wishes, he ends up discovering the microbots weren't destroyed and that the fire was set up by someone. After upgrading Baymax to be a fighter to avenge his brother, Hiro would later team up with his brother's friends, all armed and armored with weapons and armors based on the inventions created by themselves, to help stop the fire starter. Later, they'd continue to team up and would form a group to protect San Fransokyo, known as Big Hero 6.

He was voiced by Ryan Potter.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • While he was disrespectful towards them at the start, he always loved his aunt and brother.
  • Apologized to Cass for getting arrested.
  • Despite not wanting to, he went through an excursion through San Fransokyo's Institute of Technology, as his brother wanted.
  • He became a more responsible and mature person after what his brother showed him, deciding to use his high intellect the right way.
  • Created the microbots, which he intended to use to make multiple, extremely valuable, advances on technology, transportation, building, and other areas.
  • Rejected giving his micro bots to Alistair Krei, who, while not outright villainous in the movie, was still a greedy opportunist.
  • He tried to prevent Tadashi from going back to the fire to save Callaghan.
  • Tried to follow Tadashi into the building before it exploded, to either help him save Callaghan or, what is more likely, get him out of there.
  • When Baymax misunderstands his ironic remark that discovering where the microbot wanted to go would make him feel better, he follows Baymax in the streets to prevent him from causing trouble in the city.
  • After discovering someone stole his microbots and was mass producing them, he decided to stop the person, even though it was more for revenge over what happened to Tadashi than justice.
  • Upgraded Baymax to be able to fight so that they could get the Kabui-masked guy.
  • Followed his microbots into the docks, where Tadashi's friends appeared to help him, only for him to order them to go away as it wasn't safe.
  • Guided Baymax in what moves to use to protect them, during their fight/chase against Yokai in Wasabi's car.
  • Told the gang about Yokai and what he saw him transporting in the docks.
  • While reluctant at the start, he quickly changed his mind and decided to turn his friends into superheroes with their own inventions, to help defeat Yokai.
  • Made a plan to find Yokai by scanning all of San Fransokyo at the same time.
  • Fought Yokai and stripped him of his mask in the island, taking away his powers in the process.
  • Confronted Callaghan over not saving his brother, being horrified when the answer was "he came back on his own".
  • He finally understood his brother better once Baymax showed him multiple footage of Tadashi and his plans for Baymax, letting go of his hatred towards Callaghan, and felt remorse over leaving his friends on the island.
  • Saved Krei's life in Krei tech.
  • Convinced all of his friends to see things from another angle while they were struggling against Callaghan's microbots, causing them all to free themselves and fight once again.
  • Made a plan to destroy all of Callaghan's microbots, stopping him from destroying Krei Tech and possibly damaging the city and its population.
  • Despite having a clear chance of killing Callaghan, he chose not to without hesitating, due to his brother's memory, but still destroyed his mask to strip him off his powers.
  • He and Baymax decided to rescue Callaghan's daughter, Abigail, form the portal.
  • When Baymax revealed he'd have to sacrifice himself to save both Hiro and Abigail, he desperately tried to find another way as to not lose the last thing his brother left him.
  • Rebuilt another Baymax from the medical chip Baymax purposefully left in his fist after sacrificing himself.
  • Continued to protect San Fransokyo with the Big Hero 6 ever since.
  • He defeated many villains such as Globby and Noodle-Burger Boy.
  • He discovered Robert Aken's backstory and sympathized with him.
  • He stopped Obake from destroying San Fransokyo so he could rebuild it, which would have meant killing everybody in it.
  • Helped defeat Diane Amara.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Although he is a merciful person and got over his lethal and vengeful qualities, he didn't seem to feel remorse over almost killing Callaghan before, as he still looks down on him and didn't forgive him for what he did even though Callaghan felt a lot of remorse.
  • He has some stubborn, jerkish or mischievous moments, as well as being arrogant, such as underestimating his enemies sometimes or being too angry for weak reasons.
  • He still has some moments of being inconsiderate and ignorant, such as consistently procrastinating on his homework (especially when it comes to taking care of Professor Granville’s dogs), casually throwing his phone away and breaking a glass cup.
