β€œ And he used High 5! See? β€ž
~ Hi-5 showing that Alex used him on an old message.
β€œ Stop! It's Gene! He's All of those things! β€ž
~ Hi-5 convincing the Citizens of Textopolis to use Gene as a message to save the phone.

Hi-5 is the deuteragonist of the Sony Pictures Animation animated feature film, The Emoji Movie.

He is a High Five emoji (βœ‹πŸ»), who became forgotten and unused by his user, Alex, thus, being banished to the Loser Lounge. He is the best friend of his friend Gene, a "meh" emoji, who, due to a glitch can make multiple faces other than the one he was supposed to do. He decides to help Gene (although for self-serving interests) by finding a hacker in a pirate app, so they can both achieve their dreams of doing the right face and being accepted (Gene) and becoming a favorite emoji once again (Hi-5).

He was voiced by James Corden.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Pure Good?[]

  • He was Gene's friend since he was an outcast.
  • Decided to help Gene while also looking to fix his problems, even though he could've chosen to go find the hacker alone.
  • Helped Gene and Jailbreak escape Smiler's robot more than once.
  • He helped Jailbreak pass Gene to the Candy Crush level, so that they could go to the Firewall.
  • He helped Gene and Jailbreak pass through Just Dance by dancing along.
  • Despite the way they treated him, he threw a rope so all Trolls and bad programs could escape the trash can and their horrible fate.
    • Despite the rope falling down, meaning they died anyway, Hi-5 never became aware of this, so a lack of care isn't a prevention.
  • He helped Gene and Jailbreak defeat the bigger Anti-virus robot by tangling him up.
  • Allowed Gene and Jailbreak pass through the Firewall by remembering an old message of Alex which revealed the name of the girl he like, which turned out to be the password.
  • After Gene became a "meh" and lost all of his personality, he became worried as that didn't appear to be what Gene wanted at the start.
  • Called Jailbreak out on making Gene so depressed.
  • Went to save Gene and Textville along with Jailbreak.
  • Likely kept the promise he made to Jailbreak not to tell anyone about her animal empathy abilities.
  • Admitted to Jailbreak that friendship was more important than popularity, showing how much he grew in the journey.
  • He invaded Emoji Corps along with Jailbreak to defeat Smiler and her robot, and when he was about to delete Jailbreak, he shut it up, saving Jailbreak, Gene and his father, and any other Emoji Smiler could delete to keep her plan going.
  • He stopped the discussion amongst the Emojis, saying that Gene should be sent to Addie as he expressed all emotions at the same time, so, he played a big part in saving the cellphone and everyone in it.
  • He participates, and likely helped prepare, the big party at Emoji Corps, where it is revealed it isn't anymore divided by favorites and outcasts, but rather having everyone be in the favorite hall.
  • He sheds almost all of the corrupting qualities he had at the start of the movie.

What Prevents Him From Pure Good?[]

  • He can still have a very little amount of arrogance, bragging about his and Jailbreak's epic entrance at Emoji Corps before being comically slammed into Smiler Robot.
  • Has a few jerk moments that still hold up, such as pretending not to hear anything when Gene and Jailbreak called for his help in firewall or being jerkish to a swiper in Loser Lounge.
  • His incompetence causes problems sometimes, such as him almost forgetting Addie's name, or his silly behaviour being what caused him to be caught in Just Dance, which delayed their mission a lot, though this isn't brought up a lot in the movie.
