~ Hawks to Endeavor |
Keigo Takami, known publicly as the Wing Hero: Hawks, is a major supporting character of the My Hero Academia franchise.
Hawks is the former No. 3 Pro Hero and is the No. 2 current Pro Hero, who also served as a Double-Agent of the Paranormal Liberation Front.
Hawks' Quirk is called Fierce Wings, which grants him a pair of large, bright, feathery wings on his back. These wings allow him to fly and he can telekinetically control the movement of each individual feather with ease, he is also able to harden them and use them like blades or shoot them like projectiles.
He is voiced by Yuichi Nakamura, who also played Bruno Bucciarati in the Japanese version, and by Zeno Robinson in the English version, who also plays Hunter from the Owl House.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In General[]
- Despite his slight arrogance and mischievous behavior, Keigo is an incredibly friendly and outgoing person who takes his job as a hero very seriously.
- Hawks desires to be useful by helping anyone in any way he can, whether directly or indirectly. He's not only willing to help innocent civilians, but also Pro Heroes and Villains too. Unlike most other Pro Heroes, Hakws isn't motivated by fame nor wealth, and is only interested in helping others.
- Keigo has demonstrated his care and love for his mother despite how little she did for him as a child:
- When Dabi said his real name, Hawks was shocked, since the only person who knows, besides the HPSC, is her.
- When Keigo is told about joining the HPSC to become a Pro Hero, he agrees and says "Can I become like him? A guy who beats up bad guys and saves people?" These are the same words that Tomie said to him when she brought the Endeavor plushie.
- He cherished the memory of him going with his mother to buy a Endeavor doll.
- The first thing that Hawks did after the war was visit his mother's home.
- Feels guilt about leaving not only his mother but his father as well.
- Hawks' optimism often leads him to most often want to find the good in others, potentially due to his own personal guilt over never truly forgiving his mother, something he commends Shoto over after learning of his reconciliation with his mother. This is also shown when even after Lady Nagant became a villain, he still believes there remains the heart of a hero in her. The biggest example of this is with Twice, who he manages to develop a genuine bond of friendship with even though he's undercover, possessing a desire to want to help the villain rehabilitate.
Background[]
- Despite him having a rough, traumatic, loveless childhood where his father forbade him from going outside for most of his youth and dealt constant physical and verbal abuse to him, Keigo did not allow his experience to corrupt him, escaping from his toxic parents and grew up to become one of the Top 10 Pro Heroes in Japan.
- Despite him living with two terrible parents, the father who was abusive to him verbally and/or physically, the mother, Tomie, who neglected him, he never shows any kind sign of hatred and anger towards them, instead sadness for them, as he saw them as broken people and vowed not to become broken as well.
- When his own father slapped him, instead of displaying anger, he calmly explained that since his feathers were tingling, he went over to check it out and came back to his shack of a house after he discovered it was nothing.
- When Tomie, his own mother, wanted Keigo to get money by any means possible, and asked why he was even born and what use his wings were, though Keigo was rightfully angered by her sentiment, he was determined to be useful by using his wings to save people from a high speed car accident, despite being a child who had no hero training.
- He accepted the grueling training of the HPSC to become a Pro Hero like his idol Endeavor.
- Became a Double-Agent of the HPSC and the League of Villains to ensure the safety of society.
Pro Hero Arc[]
- Keigo was so impressed by Tokoyami's new techniques that he took his protégé for a flight over the city as a reward and commended him for improving on his weaknesses and advised him to improve on his strengths by suggesting that he didn't need to confine himself on the ground, helping Tokoyami grow stronger and develop new techniques.
- Though he was disrespectful towards the other Pro Heroes for their speeches and showed arrogance for his own abilities, this was for the villains to buy that he's a traitor and so that none of the other heroes would find out that he's a double agent.
- When Endeavor is displeased by his speech, he explains that he tried to help Endeavor on the podium as he sees him fit to be a new leader for All Might's retirement.
- While he was walking with Endeavor to a restaurant, he manages to do a number of good deeds such as:
- Take out a villain, who is an extremist of Destro's ideology.
- Saves a dog from being run over.
- Helps a granny climb the stairs.
- Is friendly with his fans as he accepts photos and autographs from them.
- Evacuated people within the building that was attacked while Endeavor fights the High-End Nomu.
- When the High-End Nomu smashes Endeavor through a building, Hawks puts his Double-Agent mission on the line, by saving all injured civilians using his feathers, stopping a building from collapsing, killing the 2 white-Nomus and assisting Endeavor with the fight.
- Came to Endeavor's aid after his fight with High-End, bantered with him about the pose and helped with his wounds.
- He is angry at Dabi for letting loose a powerful Nomu against innocent civilians and Endeavor. In addition, he angrily questioned Dabi on whether he killed Snatch, being the only one (besides Endeavor) concerned for the deceased Pro Hero.
- He is disgusted at the HPSC for letting the League of Villains roam around free while they cause casualties.
- Blames himself and feels guilt about causing Endeavor's scar, as shown when he visits him in hospital, and later when they leave.
Endeavor Agency Arc[]
- Assisted Endeavor in his battle with Starservant by taking out his minions.
- While he did steal Izuku and Bakugou's victory against Starservant's minions, it was to make sure that the villains underestimated them before the battle and even reflects how they could get even surpass his speed.
World's Heroes Mission[]
- Alongside Tokoyami, he searched for bombs placed around the world by Flect Turn and Humarise, assisting in stopping their genocide attempt.
The Paranormal Liberation War Arc[]
- Communicates a urgent message to Endeavor about the growing threat of the Paranormal Liberation Front, allowing the heroes to prepare for the upcoming conflict.
- While he was undercover in the PLF, he was never swayed by the extreme beliefs of Destro's ideology and remained firmly against them. Unlike many Pro Heroes, who were supportive of Destro's ideology.
- Though he manipulated Twice to give him information about the whereabouts of Tomura and PLF, he did not seem to enjoy it and felt really guilty when he betrayed his trust.
- He wanted to give Twice a second chance in life since he has been through some tough circumstances and he does it because he is a good person, openly saying this to him.
- He comments that he never wanted to fight him, even though Twice was pushing him to commit that choice. He even wanted him to come over peacefully, apologizing to him for lying and betraying his trust. He even gave him multiple chances of surrendering and coming over peacefully.
- He hesitated when he had to kill Twice, instead going for injuries that would immobilize him, and was even planning on taking him back alive until Dabi came.
- He selflessly sacrifices most of his feathers against his battle with Twice and Dabi, and almost dies as a result.
- While he did kill Twice, it wasn't out of malice or ill intent due to Twice's Quirk allowing him to create thousands of clones of himself and cause massive destruction, transforming him into the most powerful villain, and he only killed him since he was too dangerous to live.
- When he sees Dabi's terrifying, smiling expression after Twice's death, he asks him if that's the face a man makes after witnessing his friend die, upset that Dabi could be so callous at his death.
- While he was semi-unconscious, he gave Tokoyami advice about Dabi's attack patterns and that he should get out before he attacks again.
- Apologized to Best Jeanist for putting him in a comatose state to fool the villains and that this was to gain the trust of the PLF and allow him to infiltrate them.
- When he discovers that his own mother leaked his past, due to Dabi sending villains to her location and threatening her, instead of being angry with her, he is merely disappointed and saddened.
- Even after being nearly burned by his idol's son and was told directly from the sadistic supervillain his true identity, while he was almost about to die from his hands and was even framed by him for Twice's death, he decides to tell the already chaotic public about his identity and his past in an attempt to salvage Endeavor's reputation.
- When Rei gets on the ground and apologizes to him for what her son has done, he immediately assures her and says there is no need to apologize.
- When Hawks asks about the scar on Shoto's face, he's shocked when he hears the truth and respects Shoto by calling him a class-act for not abandoning his parents.
- Informed Endeavor about the chaos occurring, and that the only way to combat against them is to fight. In order to help Endeavor with this, he proposed a team-up between the top 3 heroes, offering his aid against Dabi and the villains. This proposal causes Endeavor to burst out in tears of joy and thank him.
- Despite him being burned and almost killed by his own idol's son, he displays no hatred or anger towards Endeavor, and instead supports his change of heart.
- Even though Keigo was a victim of abuse and neglect, he is willing to help Endeavor since he is trying to change for the better, which Hawks can respect and support.
- Even though it wasn't his fault, he apologizes to the tense public for his criminal relationship with his father and keeping it a secret.
- He also apologizes for killing Twice, saying that he did so because he felt that it was the only right choice at the time, as well as to prevent far more death and destruction from occurring due to Twice's Double Quirk.
- Expresses remorse for not being able to help Twice.
- A small detail, but when Keigo first met Twice, he referred to him as his villain name "Twice". However, when he realizes that the villain is a good individual, he refers to him as his real name Bubaigawara. This highlights just how much Hawks has come to respect him.
- While all other Pro Heroes are closing down their agencies and retiring, after facing public criticism due to Dabi, Hawks has chosen to still help citizens who criticize them.
- Even after he lost his wings and is unable to use his skills due to Dabi's Quirk: Cremation, he still puts himself in front of dangerous jail-breaker villains and helps the Pro Heroes out.
The Dark Hero Arc[]
- Ushers Endeavor into the car when the civilians ridicule him and throw trash at him.
- Warns Izuku about Lady Nagant, which allows him to properly react when she attacks him and prevents himself from being captured by her.
- Hawks is horrified when hears from Izuku about Lady Nagant receiving a Self-Destruction Quirk by All For One, Hawks addresses himself as her successor and expresses his disbelief for allowing All For One to manipulate her like this, and encourages her to not give up yet. He then tells Lady Nagant to share what she knows with him in order to keep hope alive, all the while saying to her that she cannot die being manipulated by a villain like that, and calls her a hero despite her betrayal and her being a criminal.
- Despite him being taken in by a corrupted government and seeing the darkest side of hero society, Lady Nagant still wonders on how she still sees the heroic fire in Hawks eyes (just like Izuku) in the midst of an uncertain future. This encourages her to tell him the villains' next location and warns him of the other enemies that All For One called upon.
- When Lady Nagant asks him on how he could be so hopeful, he responds by saying that he had someone to support him, which is his Endeavor doll, and calls himself an optimist to a fault.
- He's deeply concerned about Star and Stripe's safety before they were about to meet.
The Final War Arc[]
- Going against All For One, with Endeavor and the other Pro Heroes, even though his wings have not fully regenerated.
- Attempting to kill All For One, as soon as he entered through the portal, before the battle between him and the Pro Heroes even starts.
- Attempting to calm down Endeavor when All For One makes the No. 1 Pro Hero lose his cool.
- Saving Jiro from being almost killed by All For One.
- With the effort of Jiro and Tokoyami, he managed to successfully break a good chunk off of All For One's mask.
- He uses his feathers to boost Endeavor while he burns All For One.
- Tries to buy time for Endeavor by asking All For One about his dreams.
- Prevents AFO from leaving the battlefield to find Tomura and faces him head-on.
- He and the heroes throw everything they can at the rejuvenated All For One.
- Continues to support Tokoyami after Dark Shadow is obliverated with a Nuclear Blast.
- He shields Tokoyami from AFO's massive blast of light which defeated all the heroes present and Gigantomachia.
- He protects Tokoyami from AFO with the last of his strength, resulting in having his quirk stolen.
- Even after becoming quirkless, he continues standing, ready to help in any way he can.
- He tells a double of Toga attacking him that Twice was a really decent guy before it disappears.
- After becoming the president of the Hero Public Safety Commission, he pardoned Lady Nagant, La Brava and Gentle Criminal.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Has small moments of being mischievous with Endeavor where he annoys him, such as when he's first introduced and insults most of the pros when ranked.
- He can be a little arrogant regarding his abilities and what he's capable of.
Trivia[]
- Hawks is the first Pro Hero in the series to feel sympathy for a villain, and is second from the main cast, the first being Izuku Midoriya, to be sympathetic towards La Brava and Gentle.
- He is the first Pro Hero to kill a named villain and is still, by others, considered to be a Near Pure Good.
- In a Twitter Post made by Atsu, from Jump GIGA in Spring 2021 revealed an interview by Kohei Horikoshi, it revealed that Hawks, along with Ochaco Uraraka, will be playing a big role in the final act and has stated that they will become a "light of hope" for the readers.
- He also seems to be set up as a foil to Dabi in almost every way, such as Hawks becoming a hero despite his villainous background, while Dabi was born to a hero but became a villain. Their fighting style are also inverted; Hawks' power comes from his skills while Dabi has to rely on the strength of his flames; both met Endeavor in their childhood. However, one grew to resent him and the other grew to admire him. They even have a contrasting main colour, Hawks' being yellow, while Dabi's is purple.
- Hawks is extremely similar to Hunter from the Owl House with there being multiple jokes about their similarities.
