Gyro Gearloose is a major character in the Mickey Mouse universe and related works. He is a brilliant scientist who lives in Duckburg. He is a close friend of the McDuck family, especially of Donald Duck and Scrooge McDuck, often being a personal scientist of the latter. His inventions often are the main focus of the stories he appears in with a prominent role.
He was voiced by the late Will Ryan, the late Hal Smith, Frank Welker, and Chris Edgerly.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While he has moments of being prone to anger and even doing actions that could be considered jerkish, they are rare and almost always in a justifiable context, making it likely that they are heating up periods.
- He always tries to help his friends with his inventions.
- His motivations as inventor are to help society, rather than to gain fame or money.
- He tried to save the triplets from an uncontrolled rocket he himself created.
- He helped Joe and Nestor play soccer with robots so that they wouldn't get hurt, and when the robots were stolen and used by bandits to commit crimes, he helped stop them.
- Once, when the government required, he created a rocket and piloted it to go to space and use a laser to destroy a meteor that was going to destroy Earth.
- He is always reluctant to help Scrooge with his inventions whenever he believes it to be immoral.
- When a phone created by him and produced by Scrooge started making chaos in Duckburg, because the phone allowed people to hear what others said a few seconds after the call ended, which made a lot of misunderstandings, fights and disagreements, he helped Donald and the rest of the Duck family put an end in that madness.
- When Scrooge gained a power to liquify metal and they both went to the moon, they discovered an alien population with lots of lagoons of gold and silver. Scrooge's power was inverted, and he solidified the lakes. However, the aliens fed in those metals. Gyro made Scrooge see how immoral his actions were, and he eventually put his greed aside to restore the Moon's lakes, saving the entire population.
- He and Lil' Bulb stopped intelligent, giant squirrels, created by himself accidentally, from conquering the world.
- He and Lil' Bulb stopped a planet with many small mechanical creatures similar to Lil' Bulb from attacking Earth, as their artificial planet was slowly getting smaller because of a hole in its rubber soil. He put all the air back and fixed the hole, saving the population of Bulbs from destruction.
- In one of Magica DeSpell's attempts to steal Scrooge's dime, she created a black hole that would consume Duckburg if he didn't hand over the dime. However, her wand was consumed by the black hole, and it started getting bigger and bigger to the point it would consume the galaxy. Using his time machine, he went back in time and used an ancient duck genius, Duckeinstein, to help, and, with his machine, he inverted the polarization of the black hole and saved the galaxy.
- He brought the entirety of Duckburg back from an alternate dimension after Donald and a malfunctioning invention of his made it go there.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He is a little incompetent and reckless, as despite often using his inventions to do good successfully, sometimes his inventions go evil or malfunction, causing problems to others.
- He fails the standards to Donald Duck, who, with less resources, saved the entire universe from Lord Felldrake Sheldgoose.
Trivia[]
- Only his mainstream/original counterpart counts as Near Pure Good, as his 2017 version has too many corrupting qualities, including arrogance, jerkishness, egotism, insulting others, as well as failing the standards compared to the McDuck family and Darkwing Duck.
- So far, he's the only DuckTales Near Pure Good to come from original series.
