“ | You know, we're all getting tired of how you never let anyone you and Zelda go way back. You've been friends since you were kids? Big deal. It doesn't change the fact that you float through life with your head in the clouds. Would you wake up, straighten up, and grow a backbone already? Dopes like you are dragging our honored academy through the mud. | „ |
~ Groose bullying Link. |
“ | Nah, don't worry about me. I'm gonna hang back here, Link. That stupid monster doesn't know when to quit, and Grannie here keeps yapping on and on about how we never know when it might bust free again. Someone's gotta stick around and guard the place. Might as well be me. Besides, if I'm not here, who's gonna look out for the old girl? And you know what… Naw forget about it… | „ |
~ Groose accepting his role and vowing to guard the Sealed Grounds. |
Groose is a major character in the 2011 action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, the sixteenth main installment of Nintendo‘s The Legend of Zelda series.
He is a knight-in-training from Skyloft and the rival to the main protagonist, Link.
Initially an egotistical bully who antagonizes Link, vies for Zelda's affection, and deludes himself into thinking he's the Chosen Hero, Groose's arrogance is shattered upon reaching the Surface and realizing how powerless he truly is. After accepting that he is not the hero of the story, Groose slowly warms up to Link and becomes one of his most valuable allies in the quest to stop Ghirahim from freeing The Imprisoned.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While he starts off as a bully and blames Link for Zelda's disappearance, he warms up to him and sheds this behavior later on.
- Out of genuine concern for Zelda's well-being, he follows Link to the Sealed Temple.
- While this did result in the pair crash-landing, this was unintentional.
- After seeing Link defeat the Imprisoned, he accepts the fact that it isn't his destiny to save Zelda and begins working on a catapult to stop the Imprisoned.
- When The Imprisoned breaks free again, he flings bombs at it to help Link re-seal it.
- After Link returns to the present, he vows to look after Impa and defend the Sealed Grounds.
- When The Imprisoned breaks free for the third time, he informs Link about it.
- He also orders Link to come up to the temple and flings him to the Imprisoned's head after his store of bombs is blocked off.
- When he learns about the flooded state of Faron Woods, he flings Link there with his catapult.
- It's also worth noting that when Link obtains 3 parts of the Song of the Hero, he uses his catapult to send Link to various minigames.
- When Demise is finally destroyed, he attempts to stop Ghirahim from going through the Gate of Time (where Demise was still alive) only to be knocked away.
- He saves Zelda from being killed by Demise by jumping upwards and catching her.
- When Demise is finally killed off, he advises Link and Zelda to return to the present to relieve Impa's worries.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Even after his redemption, he has a few arrogant moments, most notably bragging about his catapult, how he made it himself, and how effective it is.
