| “ | I am the bringer of justice, little bro! | „ |
| ~ Grizz Bear to Panda Bear, and his most famous quote. |
Grizzly "Grizz" Bear is one of the three titular main protagonists (alongside his brothers, Panda Bear and Ice Bear) of Cartoon Network's We Bare Bears franchise.
Grizz is the oldest brother of the three titular bears, and is the leader of the trio, and serves as the co-leader and best friend of Ranger Tabes' group of girl scouts, the Poppy Rangers. He tries his best to perform righteous actions for both the benefit of his family and himself, although his arrogance and incompetence can be notable barriers, but thanks to the Poppy Rangers' positive influence to Grizz, those flaws have been toned down to a noticeable extent, a sentiment that would even go on over the course of the series. Growing up without parents or guardians, much like his adoptive brothers, he grew up attempting to be a model-big brother, though he was mediocre at it nonetheless.
Grizz is voiced by Eric Edelstein as adult. As a cub, he was voiced by Sam Lavagnino. In We Baby Bears, he is voiced by Connor Andrade.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
In general[]
- Unlike his brothers, who can be jerkish/selfish (Panda Bear) or lethal (Ice Bear) at times, Grizz lacks most of these corrupting factors. Additionally, thanks to Diaz, Parker, Murphy, Nguyen and Wallace's positive influence given to Grizz, the latter has subverted himself from most of his corrupting factors, such as his jerkish attitude and incompetence.
- Although he distributed his internet video to the entire world and ended up causing a black out in San Francisco, it was far from his intention in causing such and was only caused accidentally, as he was not aware that distributing his internet video globally would cause a blackout at all.
- While he and Panda did constantly scare Ice Bear with cucumbers, this was only for pure comedy.
His actions[]
- As a young cub, he saved his brothers from being run over by a train, and later formed a family with them.
- Grizzz returned the evil jean jacket to the dumpster.
- Grizz assisted in shushing the people of the movie theater.
- Grizz saved his brothers from a series of vicious and intimidating wolves by unleashing a powerful roar at them during the stack-up battle.
- Grizz admitted to destroying Panda's computer.
- Grizz prevented the basketball kids from getting a picture of Charlie that would expose him to the public or even globally.
- Grizz offered Ranger Tabes a dog to apologize for ditching her party.
- He raised the money to save Darrell's store.
- He saved Craboo when the police were hunting him.
- He saved Nom Nom at the toy factory.
- Grizz, alongside the Poppy Rangers, has saved Wallace from the Hurricane Hal, even if it endangered himself and the Poppies.
- He defeated the Ivy Rangers and Ranger Zhao in the annual Peewee Ranger Games, alongside the Poppy Rangers.
- He tried to get his brothers to Canada to save them from Agent Trout, and even tried to cheer them up during the journey.
- In his most admirable actions, he saved all of Agent Trout's imprisoned and abused grizzly bears from a wildfire, and assisted in integrating bears into human society overtime.
- While his brother, Ice Bear, has done much more admirable deeds than him, Grizz does not have the fighting skills that Ice Bear have. Therefore, it is unfair to compare Grizz with him.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Grizz can be an unintentional nuisance at times, to the point where the city has a "bear complaint file." Additionally, his methods of protecting his brothers and the Poppy Rangers can be a bit extreme, such as making the former live in the forest and failing to achieve nourishment for the latter, which caused each of them to descend into madness. Even the Poppy Rangers are aware of Grizz's incompetence, shown when Wallace and Nguyen discuss about how Grizz messed up multiple times in collecting badges.
- Grizz willingly followed the commands of his "shoulder rangers" to protect himself from the Poppy Rangers, who are planning to eat Grizz out of starvation and insanity, and he influenced Nguyen that she is more qualified as a leader than Wallace, thus she should get the Elite Ranger Guidebook, which led to the Poppies turning against each other and having a brief, but heated and toxic quarrel against each other, before it spirals out of control and outright turns into a brutal Ranger War where the Poppies brutally fight against one another for the guidebook, accidentally sabotaging the Poppies' pure friendship with each other to a heavily destructive rivalry.
- He has some jerkish moments, such as when he stole Panda's computer so he could flirt with Panda's internet date, and even made usage of Darrell to make Ice Bear jealous.
Trivia[]
- Due to the original show, We Bare Bears, appearing to be in a separate continuity, it is unclear if his We Baby Bears counterpart counts as NPG.
