Grace Monroe is a major character of Infinity Train. She is initially a background character of Book One - The Perennial Child, becoming one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Simon Laurent) of Book Two - Cracked Reflection, and the main protagonist of Book Three - Cult of the Conductor.

She is a passenger on the Infinity Train and the leader of The Apex, a group comprised of young passengers.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • Saving Simon from being eaten by a Ghom when they were both children.
  • Even when she was an antagonist, she still cared for Simon and the members of the Apex, as she took care of them and provided them with shelter.
  • She was the one to comfort Simon when he almost had a breakdown in the Cat's cabin.
  • While she initially had ulterior motives with teaming up with Tuba (namely using her as a ploy), she gradually grew to genuinely care about her.
  • Once she learned that Hazel was a denizen, Grace promised her that she wouldn't tell Simon knowing that he could, and likely would, kill Hazel if he knew.
  • Grace mourned Tuba's death after she was killed by Simon and later began to express skepticism towards the mindset she had developed while in the Apex.
  • When she was confronted by Amelia on the truth about the Apex, Grace was open to the prospect of change and noticed how wrong her previous actions had truly been.
  • While she did participate in act of forced cruelty towards Hazel, Grace later felt remorse for this.
  • After Simon stomped on and killed the cranes in the Origami Car, she took the time to fold each of them back together, effectively restoring them to life.
  • When Simon forced her to relive her old memories, she accepted responsibility for her wrongdoings that she committed being motivated by her selfish desire for attention from others, and the fact that she assisted in forming the stew that would lead to Simon's deranged belief structure. Grace also expresses remorse for having mislead, hurt, and killed so many people.
  • After re-confronting Simon, she tries to actively reason with him even while he commands her to be "wheeled", trying to convince him that he's not too far gone and can still change, and never gives up trying to stop him from pursuing his self-destructive path up to his death.
  • She saves Simon from falling off the train despite not understanding why she would even do such a thing
  • Despite all the times Simon psychologically abused her and even tried to outright murder her, she is still completely devastated by his death.
  • After Simon's death, she becomes the one to announces the dissolution of the Apex, promising to reform them and help them escape the train in her efforts to redeem herself and make up for her wrongdoings.
  • She's able to reduce her number by half at the end of Book 3, which is far faster and more than how much Amelia managed.
  • While initially being presented as a villainous character, she later decides to accept responsibility for her actions and subverts nearly all of her corrupting qualities by the end of Book 3.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • While she repents for all of her atrocities and corrupting factors, the sheer weight of her actions in forming a supremacist religious cult for petty motivations that stole from, terrorized, slaughtered and tortured hundreds of innocent denizens and brainwashed numerous children into the ideology, starting with her second-in-command Simon, which eventually lead to his death, makes it impossible for her to be Pure Good. The narrative makes it clear that she can only try to make up for the weight of the evil she committed and will never be able to fully do so. Thanks to Book 3 having a deliberately ambiguous ending and series being cancelled early, the last we see of Grace had her only beginning to make up for her previous atrocities.

Trivia[]

  • She's one of the three Infinity Train heroes to be Near Pure Good, alongside Atticus and Tulip Olsen.
