We underdogs gotta look out for each other, right?
~ Giulia after protecting Luca and Alberto; her most famous quote
So long, evil empire of injustice.
~ Giulia before taking Ercole out by hitting him with her own bike

Giulia Marcovaldo is the tritagonist of Pixar's 24th animated feature film, Luca.

A high energy girl living in the italian city of Genova, Giulia goes to the town of Portorosso to spend her summers with her father every year, always trying to beat the local competition, the Portorosso Cup. She constantly stands up the town's local bully, Ercole Visconti, wanting him to stop pushing the kids around. One of those years, she meets Luca and Alberto, newcomers to the town, and secretly sea creatures posing as humans. Giulia teams up with them in an attempt to beat Ercole, and eventually comes to learn of their identities, but besides an initial shock, has no problems with her friends' nature, proving cohexistance betweem humans and sea monsters is possible.

She was voiced by Emma J. Berman.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good[]

  • She attempts to beat Ercole every year, in other to discredit him in the eyes of the public and get him to stop constantly bullying and abusing the kids at Portorosso.
  • Possess a clear moral compass in which she has to help those she views as "underdogs", due to feeling she is one too, and that they got to stick together if others won't do it.
  • Saved Luca and Alberto from Ercole's bullying, inadvertently saving Luca's life as he was nearly exposed as he was being dunked on the fountain.
  • She warned Luca and Alberto of Ercole trying to ram his boat into theirs, and when Guido makes the attack miss, saving their lives, Giulia nearly knocks Ercole's boat over, which prevents him from seeing Alberto's true form.
  • Helped both Luca and Alberto train for the race.
  • Was heavily worried about both her friends when they fell down a cliff on a bike, hugging them once she sees they are okay.
  • Asks what's wrong when Luca and Alberto are on bad terms with each other, and becomes ecstatic at the perspective they might come to study with her at Genova.
  • Forces Alberto to back down to protect Luca when she believes he is a dangerous sea monster. It isn't corrupting as Alberto was purposefully making himself appear scary to get this reaction out of her.
  • Once she finds out Luca's identity, she berates him over the reckless choice of Portorosso as a town to stay, as its sea monster hunting traditions were highly dangerous to Alberto and him.
  • She asked Luca not to participate of the race, fearing for his safety should he get found out.
  • Helps Lucca how to get past the Pasta Section of the Portorosso Cup despite still being upset with him.
  • Follows Ercole in the final race when he chases Luca and Alberto, armed with a harpoon. When he has a clean shot and is about to kill both boys, she uses her bike to ram his, throwing both him and her on the ground at the risk of heavily injuring herself.
  • Stands up against Ercole when he still tries to kill the boys, claiming they are not monsters.
  • Despite Alberto acting antagonistic towards her for a good chunk of the movie, she never harbors negative feelings back, worries for his safety and for why he and Luca fought, and is in well and good terms with him as of the final scene.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • She can be obsessive and wrathful as shown when she reacts aggressively to Luca and Alberto's wishes to beat Ercole, since she thinks of herself as his rightful rival and wants to be the one to defeat him. While this only happens once, it is because they become teammates and friends, thus negating any needs for competition over who beats Ercole, meaning it isn't subverted.
  • She fails the admirable standards to Luca (who protected Alberto's and his identities over the course of the movie and kickstarted the chain reaction that redeemed sea monster in the public eye) and Alberto (who sacrificed himself to save Luca, and unlike Giulia, it was a sacrifice with certainty of death). However, for saving both boys from Ercole and working for years to deter his relentless bullying, she doesn't fail it too much.
