| “ | I, Giorno Giovanna, have a dream. | „ |
| ~ Giorno's most famous quote. |
Giorno Giovanna, formerly known as Haruno Shiobana, is the titular main protagonist of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Part V: Golden Wind, and a major character in its light novel spin-offs, Golden Heart, Golden Ring and Purple Haze Feedback.
He is a 15-year-old kid from Italy and the illegitimate child of DIO and (technically) Jonathan Joestar. Seeing the negative effects of drugs did to Italy, Giorno makes a plan to overthrow the boss by joining Passione to fight it from within.
He is voiced by Kenshō Ono in Japanese and Phillip Reich in the English dub.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Saved a mafia member's life by hiding him and drawing other members away when Giorno was just a kid, stating the reason why was because he saw the mob as helpless like him. The gangster never forgot this act and treated Giorno with kindness and respect (better than his parents, even Dio Brando, Giorno's biological father who abandoned him) afterward, becoming a positive influence in his life.
- Giorno was abandoned by his biological father, Dio Brando, and raised by a negligent mother and an abusive stepfather, from whom he developed his ability to read people. As a child, he saved the life of a wounded gangster by hiding him and drawing away other gang members. This gangster, whom Giorno came to see as a hero, treated him with respect and ensured no one mistreated him. This incident softened Giorno's soul and changed him from a cold, antisocial individual into a more charming and righteous person. He subsequently forged his dream of taking over the corrupt Italian mafia and making it as honorable as the man who saved him from a dark path. A few months before Vento Aureo, Giorno discovers his Stand's ability.
- Despite growing up as a petty thief, he shows honor and kindness, as when he stole a woman's money, he gave her back a wallet he took back from a pickpocket and planned on giving Koichi's passport back so he wouldn’t have been stranded in Italy.
- He spared Bruno's life, seeing that there was good in him.
- Expressed his plan, trying to join Passione in order to overthrow the Boss and wipe drug and crimes off of Italy.
- He saved Koichi's life from Black Sabbath.
- Showed disgust when Polpo's stand murdered the old janitor, and killed him to avenge the janitor.
- He refused to let Koichi call Jotaro on a payphone, because he didn't want Koichi to tell Jotaro about what happened through the phone, as Passione's assassins would have gone after Koichi since the phone lines would all be traced by the Boss since Koichi knew the truth about Passione.
- When Giorno was being harassed and pranked by the other members of Bucciarati's team, Giorno stayed calm and humored them, gaining their respect.
- Showed his courage and respect to his friends by throwing himself into danger to get attacked by Soft Machine, in order for Abbachio to find out about the stand's working.
- Gave Narancia credit for defending himself against Formaggio, even when the others criticized him.
- Went against Abbacchio to try and save Fugo's life from Illuso.
- Destroyed Junior and used its remains to kill Melone to protect Trish.
- Helped Mista during his fight with Ghiaccio by spilling his own blood to heat up the ice.
- Healed Bruno in order to revive him (temporarily at least) after Diavolo murdered him.
- Went with Bruno when he betrayed the boss.
- Was the first when to know that Narancia was affected by Tiziano's and Squalo's stands and was able to help him.
- Sacrificed his own hands during the Notorious B.I.G fight so that it'll distract the stand instead of going for Trish.
- Saved Mista from Cioccolata’s Green Day.
- Killed Cioccolata, preventing him from killing everyone in Rome through Green Day's mold.
- Showed kindness towards his fallen members Abbacchio and Narancia, healing their corpses so they’re not injured and buried them in flowers.
- He actively helped his team realize that Diavolo was hidden in one of their bodies when they were trying to stop Chariot Requiem.
- Saved Trish’s life and defeated Diavolo, ending his criminal rule over Passione.
- Despite Diavolo’s excessive death loop, it was unintentional since Giorno didn’t know what Gold Experience Requiem would have done and was forced to stab his own stand with the arrow.
- He let Mista and Polnareff join him in his new role as boss, allowing Polnareff's spirit to live in Coco Jumbo peacefully.
- Although dubiously canon, in the light novel Purple Haze Feedback, after Giorno became the mob boss, Giorno joined allies with the Speedwagon Foundation and wiped out the drug trade in Italy.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite showing honor and kindness, Giorno was still a criminal, stealing a woman's money and Koichi's luggage without showing remorse. Even at the end of the story, he never truly abandons his criminal ways, and may continue much of Passione's other activities as boss.
- While his kills are justified enough to be not too preventing for NPG (considering he is in a crime organization where every enemy he confronts are ruthless gangsters, thus giving his enemy any mercy would result to the death of him and his allies or even innocent people), he is still too lethal to be PG due to him being extremely brutal and cruel when killing them. Examples include:
- Manipulating a venomous snake to bite Melone's tongue.
- Rapidly kicking Ghiaccio's head over and over again until his neck gets impaled the snapped part of a damaged streetlight.
- Pummeling Cioccolata to death multiple times in the famous seven-page beatdown (although he deserved it).
