Gimli is a major character in J.R.R Tolkien's fantasy epic novel, The Lord of the Rings, and in Peter Jackson's film trilogy of the same. In the film series, he serves as a major character in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, being a major character in both The Fellowship of the Ring and The Return of the King, and one of the four tritagonists of The Two Towers (along with Legolas, Merry Brandybuck and Pippin Took).
He is a stubborn and ill-tempered, but good-hearted dwarf who joins the Fellowship of the Ring to destroy the One Ring, and kill many orcs along the way. He is close friends with Aragorn and Legolas but still clashes with the elf due to the thousand year old feud between elves and dwarves. He participates in many battles including Moria, Helm's Deep, Pelennor Fields and the Black Gate. His weapons include twin hatchets and a giant battle axe. He is very stubborn and often explains the stubbornness of dwarves. He loves fighting and even when outnumbered, he never backs down and always competes with Legolas to kill more orcs than him.
In Peter Jackson's film series, he was portrayed by John Rhys-Davies.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- The only reason why he didn't partake in events of The Hobbit films and books is his young age.
- He joins the Fellowship of the Ring to help Frodo destroy it.
- He takes part in several battles, during which he bravely fights orcs. In particular, he participates in the Battle of Helm's Deep, which saves Rohan from destruction, as well as in the Battle of the Pelenor Fields, which saves Gondor from destruction.
- When the orcs kill Boromir and kidnap Merry and Pippin, he goes with Legolas and Aragorn to rescue them.
- He, along with Legolas, also closely follows Aragorn to help him convince the Lich King to fulfill his oath.
- He, along with Gandalf, Aragorn and Legolas, goes to the gates of Mordor and enters into battle with the orcs in order to divert Sauron's attention from Frodo and Sam, despite the fact that this battle may end in death for him.
- Because he's funny, he lightens the history.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can be a jerk sometimes. Although his prejudice against elves (particularly Legolas) is based on the centuries-old enmity between elves and dwarves, and he loses his prejudice over the course of history, he can be intemperate.
- He can also be lethal, as he constantly competes with Legolas over who can kill the most orcs.
- He is also very pugnacious. While he is an undeniably brave warrior, ready to protect his friends and others from any threat, he also constantly gets into fights without even trying to assess the threat posed by the enemy.
