~ Genie's introduction. |
“ | You ain't never had a friend like me! | „ |
~ Genie's most famous quote. |
Genie is the tritagonist of the Aladdin franchise.
He is an extremely powerful and humorous djinn spirit that lives in a lamp and is bound to do whatever his master (anyone who rubs the lamp). He was forgotten for ten thousand years in the Cave of Wonders, until a boy named Aladdin found him and made a deal to free him with his third wish if Geni did all as ordered. Even after being freed, however, he still was Aladdin's friend, and accompanied him and the rest of their friends throughout multiple adventures.
He was voiced by the late Robin Williams, while in most media, he was voiced by Dan Castellaneta.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Even after serving many evil beings in the past, he is a good and well-meaning person.
- He saved Aladdin from the Cave of Wonders. Granted while he thought the latter wished for him to do so and was flabbergasted when realizing he helped him on his own accord, he wasn't mad about the situation and quickly let it slide.
- Tried to help Aladdin get Jasmine to love him.
- Even if he had to take a wish off Aladdin, he still saved him from drowning.
- While he wanted to be freed, he cared about Aladdin and was heartbroken when he decided not to free him and keep his whole life lying to Jasmine.
- While he did assist Jafar in his rise to power, he didn't have a choice since he had the lamp so he had to abide by his wishes. Not to mention that he clearly wasn't happy with what he was doing.
- Got rid of the lamp imprisoning Jafar after he wished to become a genie himself.
- He was ready to make Aladdin a prince again, sacrificing his freedom, though Aladdin chose to free him. Genie no longer grants anyone wishes, but he still chooses to help others when asked to on his own.
- He tried to fight Genie Jafar, before being trapped.
- Once he was freed by Iago, he saved Aladdin from execution.
- He helped in the plan against Jafar by shapeshifting into Aladdin and distracting Jafar.
- He fought Jafar again near the final battle.
- He accepted Iago's redemption.
- He decided to hide from most people the fact he was a Genie, so nobody would abuse his power again.
- He tried to free Eden, the Genie, from her slavery.
- He saved the gang multiple times in the series.
- Helped save Agrabah from Mozenrath multiple times.
- When he saves the life of a Mukhtar, a supposed mortal enemy of Genies, he redeems him and becomes his friend and ally.
- He prepared Aladdin's wedding with a lot of passion.
- Easily managed to defeat the Forty Thieves.
- Assured Jasmine that Aladdin was okay.
- Tried to attack Cassim before learning he was Aladdin's father.
- Convinced the Sultan, along with Jasmine, to spare and forgive Aladdin for helping his father.
- He sunk the Island to ensure the Hand of Midas is forgotten forever and won't corrupt anyone else ever again.
- Even when he was still a typical genie of the lamp, Genie proved to have moral agency as he was never willing to wish harm on anyone and it shows that he was forced to cave in to Jafar’s evil wishes when he clearly didn’t want to, despite having to abide by the lamp’s rules, and since he was freed from his lamp prison, he was able to have an agency of his own and make his own decisions.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He can be jerkish or nitpicky at times.
- He can at times be too chaotic or reckless with his powers.
Trivia[]
- He, Aladdin, and the Magic Carpet are the only three Aladdin Near Pure Goods.
