Esenia Steklova is the protagonist of the Russian detective-psychological series The Method. The investigator, the daughter of Colonel Andrei Steklov. Rodion Meglin's partner.

She was played by Paulina Andreeva.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • Unlike Rodion Meglin, she is not too lethal, and even sometimes feels disgust at his brutal reprisals against criminals. And she commits murders mostly only in self-defense. And even when she commits murders in self-defense, her murders are mostly quite quick and painless, unlike Meglin.
  • She cares very much about many people, including her mother, whose death prompted her to become an investigator and find and punish her killer; about her father, whom she also wanted to avenge; and about her daughter, whom she defended with all her might. And she also takes care of her fellow students. Then she also began a love relationship with Meglin.
  • Although she is slightly less experienced than Meglin, in his absence she is the most competent investigator, and in season 2 she has become much bolder and more experienced.

Season 1[]

  • She tried to find the killer of her friend Anya, but Meglin did it first.
  • Becoming Rodion Meglin's partner, she helped him expose and defeat many dangerous serial killers, and save innocent people from them.
  • She managed to defeat the Parkour serial killer on her own when Meglin deliberately left her alone with him.
  • She defeated and arrested serial killer and rapist Georgy Andrievich on her own.
  • She stopped the teenager Nikita when he was about to arrange a mass shooting.
  • She tried to detain serial killer Anna Sviridova on her own, and when the latter abandoned her brother-accomplice, Esenia told him not to help her after that. She did not wish Sviridova any harm either and said that she could cure her.
  • She helped Meglin defeat the extremely dangerous serial killer Alexei Anufriev, thereby thwarting his plan to kill 365 people. And when Meglin tried to kill him several times, Esenia stopped him so that it would not affect his psyche.

Season 2[]

  • This time, she was at the center of the investigations, and together with Meglin, she again managed to expose many serial killers.
  • She killed serial killer Ekaterina Suvorova in self-defense, thereby avenging her for the murder of her classmate Sasha.
  • She outwitted and defeated serial killer Vadim Chistyakov on her own, and arrested him.
  • She killed her husband Yevgeny Osmyslovsky, who became a serial killer, thereby avenging him for the murder of her father and saving Meglin from him.
  • Her anger and aggression towards Igor Samarin is even more than justified, since he kidnapped her daughter and framed her and Meglin in many murders.
  • She helped Meglin defeat the evil psychologist Igor Samarin and staged her murder in front of him, thereby allowing Samarin to outwit and, eventually, catch him by surprise and kill him, and thereby saved her daughter and prevented Samarin from brainwashing mentally ill people and turning them into serial killers.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • Although most of her lethality is justified, she still has moments of excess lethality:
    • She gouged out Georgy Andrievich's eyes. Although it was self-defense, and Andrievich may have deserved it, being a serial killer and rapist, she admitted that she liked it. It was her only sadistic moment.
    • She killed Meglin by plunging a knife into his heart when she found out that he was the one who killed her mother (as it turned out in season 2, Meglin actually survived). Although she did it with difficulty and with tears, and then felt strong remorse for it.
    • She left the defeated Vadim Chistyakov alone with the athletic girls, who took revenge on him for the murders of their girlfriends by castrating him. However, it was not shown that Esenia knew about their intentions, and that she saw this process, so it is also debatable here.
