His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He develops a deep friendship with E.T. and keeps him hidden from the government agents.
- While he's initially mean to his siblings, he grows much closer with them by the end of the film.
- He agrees to help E.T. get home, despite the fact that this will mean being separated from his friend.
- He helps E.T. build a communicator to contact his ship.
- He disguises E.T. on Halloween and helps him get to the forest to send their signal. He stays out all night with E.T. and assures him that the ship is coming and he shouldn't give up.
- He begs E.T. not to sever their link when they get sick, even though this places his own life in danger.
- He mourns E.T. when he seems to have died and emotionally says he loves him, which may have played a role in reviving E.T.
- He comes up with the escape plan to get E.T. to safety, personally fending off two government agents who try to get to them. He outmaneuvers the pursuing agents on his bike for a considerable time and doesn't give up even when cornered by agents who are holding guns on them.
- He has an emotional farewell with E.T. before he goes home, and while he declines E.T.'s offer to come with him so as not to hurt his family, he's clearly regretful about it.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has moral agency issues due to his psychic link with E.T. causing him to share his feelings and desire to get home.
- He forcibly kisses a girl due to his link with E.T. who was drunk. While this was E.T.'s fault, Elliott doesn't seem to regret it, and since he had a crush on the girl it's likely he wanted to do it anyway and E.T. just lowered his inhibitions.
