Edward "Eddie" Valiant is the main protagonist of the 1988 live-action hybrid crossover film Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
He was portrayed by the late Bob Hoskins.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Solved cases as a toon detective with his brother to save toons and help stop crime.
- Tried to get his girlfriend, Dolores, enough money for the bar.
- Proved Roger Rabbit's innocence and found the real culprit behind Acme's murder.
- Saved Roger Rabbit and his wife Jessica Rabbit from being murdered by Judge Doom's dip.
- Attempted to save Maroon from being shot, but fails as Judge Doom managed to kill him.
- Exposed Judge Doom's criminal activities to all of Toon Town and saving it from being destroyed by him.
- While he did kill the Toon Patrol, causing them to die of laughter before kicking Smarty into the Dip, this was out of self-defense as they were going to kill him and he didn't really have any other alternatives to save Roger and Jessica with them in the way.
- While he did start off with a few corrupting traits like his hatred for Toons and his jerk moments, he mostly sheds them by the end of the movie and no signs of them seem to be left in him by then.
- Even then, his hatred for Toons wasn't towards extreme levels as he never committed any hate crimes against them nor does he do anything truly villainous or antagonistic towards them and mostly keeps his hatred for them in private.
- He didn't even hate all Toons then as he showed that he liked Betty Boop based on a friendly conversation he had with her.
- While Roger Rabbit cries that he hated him due to his hatred over the Toons and the death of his brother, he admitted that he didn't and apologized for yanking his ears.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has a lethal moment in which he threatens to kill R.K. Maroon during his interrogation by strangling him by running his tie through the Moviola. While he does spare him after Maroon gives him the information he wanted, it is still too severe to be dismissed as a heating-up period.
Trivia[]
- Exists a deleted scene, where he returns from Toontown with cartoon pig on his head and uses turpentine to erase it. If this scene could have ending up in film, Eddie might be an Inconsistently Admirable hero as this would be too serious of a corrupting factor and he never subverts it nor show remorse.
- He and Roger Rabbit are the only two heroes of Who Framed Roger Rabbit to be Near Pure Good.
