What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He can be quite arrogant at times, also acting condescending to his friends which annoys them. However, this is usually only played for laughs, so it is a minor prevention.
  • He is reckless and impulsive, often acting without clear judgment, causing serious consequences in the long run:
    • In Season 2, he keeps Dart in his home despite his friends warning him that he's a creature from the Upside Down, indirectly resulting in his cat Mews' death. He also continues lying to Lucas and Max about Dart until Steve unwittingly calls it out.
    • In Season 5, he plants his pet corn snake Jake in Andy's locker to scare him, which while deserved, leads to Andy killing the snake and assaulting Dustin. This keeps him from participating in the Crawl which then leads to the heroes losing contact with Eleven and Hopper in the Upside Down.
