“ | I'm just trying to focus on the wall. Anything I'd like to contribute needs batteries or tools I just don't have. I'm tearing down this furniture to patch up the wall. If we go on like this, we'll have half the Travelier piled up out here before we know it. (...) I guess. I feel worthless on watch because I'm not wild about guns, and I just wish I was more helpful. | „ |
~ Doug confessing he doesn't feel like he contributes to the group to Lee. (determinant) |
Doug is a major character in the first season of Telltale's The Walking Dead video game series. He is a likable and non-threatening IT technician, being incredibly resourceful, intelligent and extremely logical, and is passive-aggressive when it comes to conflict.
He was voiced by Sam Joan and modelled after Doug Tabacco.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Overall, Doug is generally a kind, quiet and gentle person. Not being aggressive, Doug rarely expressed disdain to people's faces and hardly ever swore, even excusing himself for insulting Larry. Comparing to the other characters, Doug has zero corrupting qualities, and this makes him one of the very few characters without corruptions.
"A New Day"[]
- When Carley and her co-workers were attacked by walkers, Doug came to their rescue but only managed to save her, even before knowing her name.
- In the pharmacy, he helps the group by being assigned to keep a lookout on the street.
- He volunteers to help Lee search for the missing pharmacy keys outside of the drugstore amidst a large group of walkers. When they attempt to retrieve the keys off of Lee's brother, Doug uses his tech skills to program a universal remote from the drugstore office to turn on a set of TVs across the street, distracting walkers so Lee can sneak outside and retrieve the pharmacy keys from his brother's corpse. When the walkers notice Lee, Doug warns him, and they close the gate as the walkers' approach.
- When Lilly accidentally trips the pharmacy alarm, Doug helps Lee and Carley hold up the barricades against the walkers while the other survivors prepare to escape.
Rest of them are determinant and only applies if Doug is saved by Lee:
"Starved For Help"[]
- Expresses regret that Carley is dead, but doesn't blame Lee, claiming that this is just survivor's guilt. He still wishes Lee chose Carley instead of him.
- When the group discusses over whether to let Ben Paul and Travis/David Parker stay, he seems to agree to let them stay.
- Though he is not so much for fighting, he supports the group through other ways. He makes an alarm system in the motel to keep the walkers away.
- If Lee tries to give her the cheese and crackers or beef jerky, he'll reject it and insist that Lee and Clementine have it, in fear that they might start feeling weak.
- Attempts to save Lee when he is attacked by a zombified David Parker/Travis by hitting the zombie with a plank, but could not give too damage.
- Goes with Lee, Mark and Ben to go scout out the St. John's dairy.
- Goes back to the motor inn with Ben to guard it after everyone else goes with the St. Johns.
- Saves Duck from the hands of Andrew by distracting him with a laser pointer.
- Stops Lee if he continues to beat Andrew to near death.
"Long Road Ahead"[]
- Even though he tried his best, Doug confesses to Lee that he feels he doesn't do enough for the group since there is little for him to work with given his specialty not being weapons or combat and wishes to be more helpful.
- When the group is rounded up by the bandits, he escapes after Lilly snipes Jake. He defends the motel against the bandits while everyone else ran for cover first. Seeing a chance, he quickly grabs Jake's gun and reluctantly shoots Linda.
- During the bandit attack, he aids Lee by warning him when and where bandits and zombies appear. He later uses a hammer to fix the RV's engine, and the group flees the motor inn in the RV thanks to him.
- Defends Ben when Lilly keeps accusing him of stealing. When Lilly is about to shoot Ben, Doug pulls him out of the way but accidentally gets in the way and is shot in the back of the head in the process, accidentally sacrificing himself.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- (If he is alive in the second episode) He steals from the Stranger's wagon, indirectly leading to the deaths of the Stranger's wife and daughter. But since this was done to feed the group and with the thought of the car was abandoned, it is a very minor prevention.
- While he passes the general admirable standards of the game, he slightly fails the in-story standards to some characters, primarily his counterpart Carley, and Charles who has way less resources than him.
