“ | Sarah: This is Sarah Hatoff, again, reporting on the incredible saga of Dog Man, who has shown himself to be nothing less than a supa cop. With me now, the chief of police. [Chief appears] Sarah: Chief, how's it like having a supa cop like Dog Man on the force? Chief: Well, uh-- Sarah: Isn't he great? Chief: Yes, and-- Sarah: He's done so much for the citizens of this town, don't you think? He's made friends, solved crimes, barked at a mail man, played piano for the old folks, and even pitched a no-hitter at the charity softball game for kids who got kicked out of class and drew comics instead. And he did all that in ONE day! He's just Dog Man, SUPA cop! |

~ Sarah Hatoff and Chief on Dog Man's personality. |
Gregory Knight, better known as Dog Man, is the titular main protagonist of DreamWorks's film of the same name, an adaptation of Dav Pilkey's novel series of the same name.
He is somewhat of a mutant of a character, having the same head of Gregory "Greg" Knight, or just Greg the Dog, as well as the body of Officer Knight, a tough police officer who had a brain death after a tragic bomb incident. He is now the best officer in the world who has defeated numerous villains, specifically his former arch-nemesis Petey the Cat, and is also the adoptive father of Li'l Petey.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Immediately after he was created, he used his special intellect and strength to make Ohkay City better, making friends, solving crimes, playing piano for the elderly, and aiding in a charity softball game.
- Even after learning about Officer Knight's girlfriend, Alice, breaking up with him and selling their house, he never gave up and bought a new house, keeping the personality that the world would be a better place due to him.
- After Chief claimed life was unfair due to being continously yelled at by the mayor, he attempts to comfort him.
- When Petey goes on a rampage to attempt to kill or imprison Dog Man, bringing terror to those around him, he continously arrested Petey, even making it his goal to give Petey's well-deserved comeuppance and being saddened when the mayor had Chief take him off the case.
- He was devoted on protecting the dead body of Flippy, and when he found out he accidentally failed the job and someone had stole Flippy, he quickly runs out the police station and chases the capturer, later revealed to be Petey.
- After having eyes on Petey, he also finds an abandoned Li'l Petey, who lay down in the middle of the road and almost got run over. After much contemplation on whether or not he should abandon his main goal and risk losing his job or to save Li'l Petey, he quickly rushes to do the latter.
- After saving Li'l Petey's life, he took the kitten in on his own, giving both of them a fun friend and allowing Dog Man to not be lonely anymore and finally achieving full happiness.
- When Li'l Petey couldn't be found, he goes throughout the entirety of Ohkay City to find the lost kitten with the help of Sarah Hatoff and Seamus.
- When Petey came into the streets in a giant tank, he quickly went into the streets and immediately attempted to arrest the cat once more.
- When a revived Flippy came to the chaos and kidnapped a nearby Li'l Petey, he joins forces with Petey to find the kitten they both loved.
- Even after learning Li'l Petey was the clone of Petey, he still loved and cared for Li'l Petey extremely, attempting to save the kitten from Flippy.
- He takes control of the Mecha-Mail Man 2000, using it to defeat the sentient Living Spray Factory.
- After Flippy sent Li'l Petey flying through the city, he and Petey chase the flying kitten, being relieved that he was still alive.
- After learning about Li'l Petey's plan against Flippy, he quickly goes into Petey's tank to send Li'l Petey near Flippy, where the former would then reform the latter.
- When Flippy accidentally dropped Petey and 80-HD into the volcano, he used the only remaining source of ammo: his most prized possession, to send at Petey and 80-HD, allowing the two to not fall into the lava within the volcano.
- Unlike his book counterpart, who has a few lethal moments and damages property at times, he has little-to-no corrupting qualities at all.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite having the most heroic intentions, he is incompetent at times, with his obsession of chasing squirrels getting the better of him at times. However, this is a minor prevention as he still has the best intentions at heart and these incompetent moments don't happen as often as his book counterpart.
Trivia[]
- Dog Man and Grampa are the only characters in the film to have the same moral ranking as their book counterparts (Dog Man being NPG & Grampa being a VB respectively), as Li'l Petey is PG as opposed to IA, Petey & 80-HD being IA as opposed to being NPG, Chief & Sarah, both being HBs as opposed to being NPG, and Flippy being IH as opposed to being a HB and a standard evil. However, both counterparts of Petey are also IH.
