Gregory Knight, formerly known as Gregory Bailey and better known as Dog Man, or as his superhero alter-egos The Bark Knight and The Scarlet Shedder, is the titular main protagonist of Dav Pilkey's book series of the same name.

He is somewhat of a mutant of a character, having the same head of Gregory "Greg" Knight, or just Greg the Dog, as well as the body of Officer Knight, a tough police officerwho had a brain death after a tragic bomb incident. He is now the best officer in the world who has defeat numerous villains and is also the adoptive father of Li'l Petey.

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

Dog Man[]

  • Even though he annoyed Chief by licking his hand, he is just a dog, and that is his nature. Plus, he felt bad for doing so afterwards.
  • He used his genius intelligence to destroy the evil vacuum cleaner robot, that was vacuuming up everything.
  • When Petey was almost washed away in the tidal wave, Dog Man saved him, even though Petey was a villain.
  • He soon immediately arrested Petey for his heinous crimes.
  • He felt bad for Chief being yelled at by the mayor and barked at her, showing how much he cares for Chief.
  • He tried to cheer Chief up after he was yelled at.
  • He ran to Chief after he was fired and later felt terrible for Chief.
  • He succeeded in capturing Invisible Petey.
  • He revealed to the public that the mayor was not what she seemed and later arrested her.
  • When the new mayor was elected, he made sure that Chief would be rehired.
  • He immediately went to see who pooped in Chief's office (even though it was himself!!!)
  • He brought every book from Petey's secret stash to the children at the school.
  • He arrested Petey once again after he failed to collect his secret stash.

  • He informed Milly that it was Chief's birthday that day.
  • He excitedly went to Penelope's Pets to find a pet fish for Chief.
  • He felt bad for the owners of Penelope's Pets having to clean up his mess.
  • He freed the owners of Penelope's Pets and Sarah Hatoff after they were tied up from the Mysterious Stranger.
  • He went to defeat Petey after he brainwashed multiple pedestrians.
  • He freed Chief from the soul of Flippy.
  • He licked Flat Petey, freezing and ultimately defeating him.

Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kitties[]

  • He happily went to protect the scientists that were studying Flippy's dead brain.
  • He felt bad for squishing Flippy's dead body.
  • He quickly agreed to guard Flippy's dead cyborg body to make sure nothing happened to it.
  • He hid in shame after he lost Flippy's body.
  • He quickly went to see if anyone would adopt Li'l Petey after he was betrayed by his real father.
  • When no one seemed to fit, Dog Man adopted Li'l Petey himself.
  • He felt bad for Li'l Petey's hard bed and offered to put some of his bed's cushioning in it.
  • He worried about Li'l Petey after he couldn't find him.
  • He called Sarah to put out posters to find Li'l Petey.
  • He and Chief went with Sarah to stop the Beasty Buildings.
  • He and Zuzu went inside the French Dressing truck and spilled out French Dressing, destroying multiple buildings.

Dog Man: Lord of the Fleas[]

  • He felt bad for being a distraction and letting the FLEAS run away.
  • He, as well as 80-HD, went to go save Chief, Sarah, Milly, and Zuzu from the FLEAS.
  • He saved Chief, Sarah, Milly, Zuzu, and Li'l Petey from falling.
  • He showed that he was happy for Petey trying to change his ways.
  • He, as well as Chief, Sarah, Milly, and Zuzu, rushed to go save Petey after he was thrown away.
  • Though unknowingly, he destroyed the Robo-Brontosaurus and defeated the FLEAS temporarily.

Dog Man: Brawl of the Wild[]

  • He felt bad for eating all of the tickets to the red carpet premiere of the Dog Man movie.
  • He felt bad for throwing up clay on Chief.
  • He, as well as Li'l Petey and 80-HD, went to return the stolen cash they found in their house.
  • He realized that escaping from the prison was not a good idea and went back inside his cell.
  • He wished to bring the rest of the imprisoned dogs with his escape, even though they made fun of him.
  • He barked at Claymation Philly in an attempt to scare him.
  • He caught Chief after he almost fell to his demise.
  • He ate Claymation Philly, ultimately defeating him.

Dog Man: For Whom the Ball Rolls[]

  • He tried to defeat the thief.
  • He felt bad after the thief distracted him and ran away.
  • He stopped himself from almost seriously injuring Petey.
  • He tried to defeat the Burgle Balls.
  • He faced his fear and, along with Li'l Petey and 80-HD, defeated the Burgle Balls.
  • He was terrified for Petey after he was encased in a charcoal tomb.

Dog Man: Fetch-22[]

  • He covered Li'l Petey's eyes after seeing that the Fair Fairy TV series was inappropriate.
  • He went across town to recall every Supa Brain Dot.
  • He felt bad for losing all of the Supa Brain Dots and indirectly causing an army of evil, psychokinetic tadpoles to be created.
  • He tried to defeat the tadpoles.
  • He, as well as Chief, Sarah, Zuzu, Flippy, 80-HD, and Li'l Petey, tried to defeat the Fair Fairy's army.
  • He showed gratitude for Zuzu after she poured in a Supa Brain Dots antidote into the pond and erased the Fair Fairy's power.

Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea[]

  • He tried to comfort Chief and Nurse Lady on their first date.
  • He saw and tried to stop the FLEAS.
  • He told Sarah about the FLEAS, who then informed the media.
  • He, as well as Sarah, Petey, Li'l Petey, Zuzu, Molly, and 80-HD, went to go stop the FLEAS in their submarine.
  • He showed gratitude after 80-HD saved the flying submarine into falling into Piggy's sweat gland.
  • He immediately volunteered to fetch the propeller inside Piggy's sweat gland.
  • He, as well as Li'l Petey and Molly, tried to defeat Junior.
  • He, as well as Chief, Nurse Lady, Sarah, Li'l Petey, Molly, Zuzu, 80-HD, Crunky, Bub, Mike, Ducky, Daryl, and Uncle Larry, volunteered to help Petey rebuild his lab.

  • He showed gratitude for Li'l Petey, Petey, Molly, and 80-HD after they freed him from being falsely imprisoned.
  • He felt bad for Petey having to be forced to work for an evil villain, Dr. Scum, and even volunteered to help.
  • He, along with Li'l Petey, Molly, and 80-HD, went to go and try to defeat the AI Buddies.
  • He went to 'Sarah's' help after learning she had been kidnapped, even if it was a trap.

Dog Man: Big Jim Begins[]

  • He excitedly showed to Big Jim and Grampa why everyone was asleep.
  • He quickly volunteered to help defeat the Space Cuties.
  • He, along with Big Jim, woke everyone up singing the "Wakey Wakey" song.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • While he is a good boy in general, his weakness of being too easily distracted can get the better of him, making him slightly incompetent.
  • He can sometimes be somewhat lethal, such as when he chased Grampa up to a pole and tried to chomp his butt just because he was yelling a small amount.
  • While he does care for Chief deeply, he can sometimes be oblivious to how much damage he causes to his property, or how he simply uses his property without permission.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only character made by Dav Pilkey to have multiple incarnations be Near Pure Good.
    • He is also the only character (alongside Grampa and, to an extent, Petey) to share the same ranking as their film counterpart, as both Grampa counterparts are Villainous Benchmarks and both counterparts of Petey are Inconsistently Heinous. Everyone else from the books that was morally ranked (Chief, Sarah, Li'l Petey, 80-HD, Flippy, etc.) that had a film counterpart has different moral rankings.
      • Both Chief and Sarah are Near Pure Goods in the novels though Heroic Benchmarks in the film.
      • Petey the Cat, despite being Inconsistently Heinous in both incarnations, is Near Pure Good in the novels, while Inconsistently Admirable in the film.
      • Li'l Petey is Inconsistently Admirable in the novels, however, in the film, he is Pure Good.
      • 80-HD is Near Pure Good in the novels, however, he is Inconsistently Admirable in the film.
      • In the novels, Flippy is Standard Evil and Heroic Benchmark, while in the film, Flippy is Inconsistently Heinous.
