This Near Pure Good was headlined on October 2024. |
“ | Look, real life stinks sometimes. I'm not gonna lie. But there's a better way to get through then denial, and that's with help from people who care about you. It's how we've gotten through our entire lives. We've always been there for each other. Look! Mabel, I thought you were living in fantasy, but look at me! I actually thought I was gonna stay here and be Ford's apprentice. Spend my entire teens cooped up in a basement with a lab coat? How ridiculous would that be? I don't know what's gonna happen in the future, but whatever it is, you don't have to fear because we'll do it together. And I'm not taking Ford's apprenticeship. We've traveled to heck and back to get you, and we're going back together. Leave this fantasy world. Let's beat Bill, and grow up together! | „ |
~ Dipper's speech to Mabel. |
Mason "Dipper" Pines is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Mabel Pines) of Disney's Gravity Falls franchise.
He and his older twin sister Mabel Pines were both sent by their parents to stay with their great-uncle Grunkle Stan for the summer. Dipper soon comes across Journal #3, which would become a major turning point for his summer as he starts to look into more and more about Gravity Falls.
He is voiced by Jason Ritter in his normal voice, and by A. Smith Harrison in his deep voice in "Bottomless Pit".
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
General[]
- He's a good sibling to Mabel despite their occasional teasing and infighting, being very supportive of her and always trying to help her when she gets in trouble.
- He's shown to be quite courageous and willing to fight the supernatural to protect others.
- While he frequently acts selfish and jerkish throughout the series, such as when he tries to ditch Mabel and her friends during Summerween despite the Summerween Trickster's threats, he often makes up for them and learns from his mistakes.
Season 1[]
- He helped save Mabel from the gnomes.
- Despite repeatedly rewinding time to keep attempting to win a carnival game so that he could get Wendy a prize she really wanted to win her over, when Mabel lost Waddles, the pig she won earlier, as a result of helping Dipper with that and became extremely miserable over it, he undid winning the game so that she could get him back, valuing her happiness over his own.
- While he shoved the evidence of Pacifica's ancestors being frauds in her face to get back at her for being rude to Mabel and even commented on how good revenge felt, showing a slightly vindictive side, he subverts this in Season 2 as he and Pacifica get along better.
- He went on to save Mabel multiple times, showing that he cares for his sister even when they're in the middle of feuds.
- He saved Mabel's mermaid love interest Mermando from asphyxiating to death by giving him "reverse CPR" and allowed him to take a megaphone with him so he could call for his family even though it would cost him his new job at the town pool and therefore another shot at being with Wendy.
- Although he wouldn’t help the group save the Mystery Shack, he saw that Grunkle Stan wanted to get rid of him and thought he was rude and weak. Once he sees Stan’s past and how everyone said that to him and that he just wanted Dipper to be tough so the world wouldn’t beat him up, and he subverts this hatred to stop Bill by using his imagination and telling the group to do the same.
- He defeated Lil’ Gideon and saved Mabel from him.
Season 2[]
- While he recklessly raised an entire zombie horde, he was remorseful for it and assisted Mabel and Stan in getting rid of them.
- After defeating Blendin Blandin in Globnar, he and Mabel restored his job and gave Soos their time wish to fix his birthday.
- Assured Pacifica Northwest that she won't be like her parents, which leads to her to standing up to them and redeem herself, with him apologizing for the harsh things he said to her and subsequently befriending her despite them previously being enemies.
- He, Mabel and Soos all tried to shut down the portal knowing that it could destroy the entire universe and while he did refuse to listen to Stan, it was completely justified since he just trying to save the universe.
- He forgave Stan despite the latter lying to him the whole summer.
- He and Mabel both helped Stan in gaining voter popularity by mind controlling him with Ford's tie, which while extreme was well-intentioned thanks to Stan's rude and blunt nature.
- He redeemed Gideon, who had been his enemy for the whole summer.
- He would agree to reject Ford’s apprenticeship so he could grow up with Mabel, comforting her about her fears of the future.
- He helped save Ford from Bill and was the one who motivated the refugees to fight back.
- He tried to stop Stan and Ford from arguing so as to keep the Zodiac intact.
- He distracted Bill Cipher with his sister long enough for Stanley and Stanford to trick him and defeat him, making him partially responsible for saving the universe.
- He and the rest of the Pines family help Stan regain his memories.
Comics[]
- He saved Mabel's face from Mr. Whats-His-Face.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- It's unknown if he has subverted his mischievous side (such as him quickly agreeing to vandalize Tyler Cutebiker's mansion with Dipper even exclaiming "yay, vandalism!") as despite never showing it again after the show ended, there's not enough to prove he completely subverted it.
