Mum is dead, Dad! For the first time in my life, you know, I'm glad! If she could see what you've become, I think she'd probably... kill herself all over again!
~ Danny standing up to his father.

Daniel "Danny" Butterman is the deuteragonist of the 2007 crime action-comedy movie, Hot Fuzz. The son of the Sandford Chief Inspector, Frank Butterman, Danny became acquainted with Nicholas Angel after his transfer from London and assisted him in investigating the numerous accidents across Sandford in order to find out the reason behind his mother's accident.

He is played by Nick Frost.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • He despite having the reputation of a slacker, he clearly cares about justice, for example when Nick revealed that his uncle was caught selling drugs to minors, Danny showed his contempt for him.
  • He originally joined the Sandford Police Department, while under recommendation of his father, but also to investigate his mother's death.
  • Despite getting into conflict with Nicholas Angel due to being drunk, he apologized for it and befriended him.
  • He was concerned when Nick informed him about someone escaping from a cell.
  • He tried to help Nick catch a shoplifter, albeit to no avail.
  • Despite Nick's poor reputation in the Police Department, Danny stood up for him and berated his fellow cops after the deaths of Martin Draper and Eve Blower.
  • He confiscated Arthur Webley's illegally obtained weapons and prevented him from accidentally causing harm to Sandford.
  • He helped Nick switch off from constantly thinking about police work, making him watch action movies. This would help Nick change for the better as he gets more light-hearted throughout the movie.
  • After realizing the connections between the accidents in Sandford, he defended Nick from getting gaslighted by Simon Skinner, who actually was behind the murders.
  • When he realized the NWA were up to no good when they asked him to kill Nick, Danny pretended to be on their side and used ketchup to fake stabbing him, then helped him escape by driving him away in his trunk.
  • After Nick came back to Sanford, he decided to stand up to the NWA and help Nick defeat them.
  • He tried to reason with Frank that his wife would not have wanted him to commit the murders he did just to maintain the "Village of the Year" award, rightfully saying she would be ashamed of him.
  • He took a bullet for Nick when Tom Weaver attempted to shoot him.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He has moments of recklessness, such as driving under influence and arguing with Nick while being drunk. As he grows past it and becomes a better person though, it is a minor prevention.
  • He has some jerkish moments while berating Peter Cocker as "f**k ugly".
