His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Became a police officer, because his dad Frank Butterman, wanted him close by after his mother died.
- He shows concern when Nicolas states someone has escaped from a cell.
- Even though he mentions he’s seen Doris’s bra, there’s no context behind this to prove he did it in a malicious context.
- Attempted to help Nicholas catch a shoplifter.
- He stands up to the detectives when they weren't taking Nicholas seriously, after the murder of Martin and Eve.
- Along with Nicholas, he brings all of the weapons in Arthur’s shed back to the station.
- He takes Nicholas to the pub, and buys him a drink, to celebrate confiscating all those weapons.
- He commends Nicholas for his great work, calling it amazing how he's able to constantly do work.
- He helps Nicholas carry George Merchant to his house, after he became too drunk to walk.
- Even though when George asked him how much he owed him, he said £20, this was likely a joke, as he looked kinda confused, when George actually gave him the money, and didn’t stop Nicholas from taking the money off him.
- He got Nicholas to come back to his house, so he could have more drinks with him.
- He tried to reassure Nicholas when he got upset over how he treated Janine, and even tried to get him to switch his brain off for once, by watching some action movies with him.
- He felt extremely remorseful for accidentally shooting Robin Hatcher in the foot, only feeling a bit better about it, after Nicholas pointed out he was a doctor.
- Gave Nicholas the monkey he won at the fare back, presumably out of remorse for how harsh he was to him, when they were out in the rain.
- He doesn’t mention that it’s his birthday, because he was working, and didn’t want it to detract from the work.
- Defended Nicholas from Simon, when he said he had been watching too many movies.
- Offered to give Nicholas a lift back to his hotel room, after he failed to convince Frank there were multiple killers.
- Pretended to be on the NWA’s side, so he could help Nicholas escape them, saving his life in the process.
- Even though he urged Nicholas to take his car, leave Sanford and never come back, this is only because he believed Nicholas couldn’t do anything to stop the NWA.
- He helps Nicholas take down almost all of the NWA (minus Simon and Frank), and arguably saves his life again from Robin.
- Despite the shootout that takes place, this doesn’t make him lethal, as he spends the entire shootout intentionally trying to take down the NWA members through non lethal methods.
- And to add to this, all of these people were trying to kill him.
- He called out his own father, saying how his mother (Frank’s wife) wouldn’t have wanted any of what he did.
- He helped Nicholas and the rest of the Sanford police service storm Somerfield, taking down all of Simon’s employees.
- He, along with Nicholas, attempted to arrest Simon and Frank in a car chase.
- He stopped his car, and avoided running over a swan.
- He attempted to arrest his father, Frank, off-screen only for Frank to take him hostage.
- When Frank turned the gun on Nicholas, he attempted to wrestle the gun away from him.
- When he was given the perfect opportunity to shoot Frank, he chose not to, instead opting to fire his gun into the air.
- He presumably helped arrest all of the NWA members, and can be seen helping with the paperwork for them.
- When Tom Weaver came back and attempted to kill Nicholas, he took a bullet to the stomach, which could have killed him, to save Nicholas.
- He, along with Nicholas, brought flowers to his mother’s grave.
- At the end of the movie, it’s mentioned that he and Nicholas are going to deal with some people at the supermarket, who were messing with the recycling bins.
- Despite him starting the movie fairly incompetent, he over the course of the movie, learns how to be a good police officer, and by the end, becomes a sergeant.
- He stands out to Nicholas, due to him overall having less resources and skills than he does, and also saving his life on multiple occasions.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has moments of recklessness, such as driving under influence and arguing with Nick while being drunk. As he grows past it and becomes a better person though, it is a minor prevention.
- He has some jerkish moments while berating Peter Cooker as "f**k ugly".
