My father has made a request of me. I will honor his wishes. We will not march on Hiroshima. Instead, I will approach the Yomei Alliance with a pact. One that sees us as equals. This letter revealed something to me- Just how great a man my father was.
~ Daigo approaching peaceful negotiation honoring his mentor Kiryu.

Daigo Dojima is one of the main characters of Sega's Like a Dragon franchise. He was one of the tritagonists of the Yakuza saga and a major character of the Like a Dragon saga.

He was the sixth and last chairman of the Tojo Clan. Despite his hard background of being the son of Sohei Dojima, the power hungry crime lord, he tried his best to make a legacy of his own and did his best to pursue heroism. During his term as the Sixth Chairman of Tojo Clan, he did his best to maintain peace among Japanese gangs and tried to prevent any possible gang wars.

He was voiced by Satoshi Tokushige. In the English dub, he was voiced by Roger Craig Smith, and then by Tim Friedlander in Infinite Wealth onwards.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General/Background[]

  • Despite being the son of Sohei Dojima, a power-hungry crime lord who did everything for his personal gain, as well as a Pure Evil villain, he did not follow his footstep for one bit. Instead, he usually seeks Kiryu's advice, whom he considered his mentor and father figure, to do good deeds and to fix his mistakes.
  • Although he was positioned as the Tojo Chairman at a very young age and being inexperienced, in addition to the clan itself was in the sinking ship condition, he did the best he could to maintain the clan in strict order and to prevent any possible conflicts.
    • It is also worth noting that although he sometimes asked Kiryu to help him maintain the clan, it was because he needed a mentor to guide him, rather than being incompetent, as he was positioned chairman in the worst time possible.
  • He always tried to approach things pacifistically, in order not to cause any unnecessary wars between gangs, so that the citizens can be safe.
  • He stands out among other active Tojo chairmen as he did not want to seek power for one bit, but he utilized his position so that he could minimize any harms caused by the yakuza.
    • This is the reason why many people, notably Yoshitaka Mine and Tadashi Madarame, respected and genuinely befriended him despite his young age, not because he was the son of the notorious crime boss, but rather because of his determination and accomplishments he has done.
  • Despite his high resources as a Tojo Clan chairman, he did not seem to hold back for one bit. As he heavily utilized his position to stop and prevent any possible gang wars from happening, saving countless innocents from being harmed, as well as defeating large scale threats, notably Isao Katsuragi and Tsubasa Kurosawa.

Yakuza 2/Yakuza Kiwami 2[]

  • After the presumed death of Yukio Terada, Tojo Clan's fifth chairman, although he was seen drunk and desperate, he was then recruited and reformed by Kiryu and he eventually agreed to help him in preventing possible gang war from external forces.
  • During their negotiation with Omi Alliance for peaceful truce, he killed some time for Kiryu to defeat some corrupted Omi members by fighting Ryuji Goda, as well as to settle things up with him.
  • He returned to Tojo Clan HQ and tried to defeat any remainings of Nishikiyama Family, which was currently led by Koji Shindo. He also took down Shindo before the latter attempted to harm other people.
  • He took it upon himself to announce his courage of leadership to other Tojo members. He then helped bringing 300 men sent by Kashiwagi to stop the Jingweon Mafia and Go-Ryu Clan from harming the cities, as well as helping Majima defuse the bomb across Kamurocho.

Yakuza 3/Yakuza Kiwami 3[]

  • Prior to the events of the game, after becoming the sixth chairman of Tojo Clan, he approached Yoshitaka Mine, advising him not to cross the moral code and then recruited him, considering him a brother. This ultimately gained Mine's respect towards him. He then promoted Mine so that he would keep the sinking Tojo Clan stable.
  • He came to Okinawa to discuss with Kiryu about the politicians wanting the latter's Morning Glory Orphanage land to expand the military base.
    • Although he initially wanted to follow the plan, he still tried his best to protect the orphanage at all cost, on Kiryu's behalf, so that the children would still be able to keep their home, and promised Kiryu the land would be untouched.
  • He kept protecting Kiryu's orphanage from the expansion plan, even at the cost of getting himself shot and hospitalized by Andre Richardson.
  • At the end, when he was awaken from his coma, he used a gun to take down the Black Monday agents upon seeing Kiryu possibly being harmed by them.

Yakuza 4[]

  • Although he got Majima arrested and seemed to "ally" with Seishiro Munakata, it was because he did not have any choice and was ultimately threatened and forced by Munakata to do so, who was a high ranking corrupted authority with much more power, and things could go worse if Daigo did not "obey".
  • Although it was not his fault, he still felt extremely remorseful for it and eventually tried to help the heroes taking down Isao Katsuragi, by asking Takeshi Kido to use Akiyama's money to lure out Katsuragi so he could be ultimately defeated.
  • He had a heart to heart talk and an honorable fight with Kiryu at the end. After that, he managed to bail Majima out after being framed by Munakata, subverting his false allegiance to him.

Yakuza 5[]

  • After few years, he still kept his journey as a pacifistic gang leader, trying to make connection to other people so that no possible gang wars would be done.
  • Upon knowing Tsubasa Kurosawa's plan to cause gang war across many cities in Japan to gain personal power, he decided to lay low. During the time, he sent Majima to Tsukimino to prevent any threats from causing wars.
  • He went to Fukuoka upon knowing Kiryu got a job as a taxi driver, and then acquainted the Yamagasa Family Patriarch Tadashi Madarame, in order to keep an eye on Kiryu so that his and presumably his children's lives would not be threatened, he also asked Madarame to keep an eye on any threats which wanted to cause gang war.
  • During his hide, he kept caution to his own men, such as Minoru Aoyama, so that no unforseen consequences could happen.
  • He went to Nagoya to approach his old high school friend Tatsuo Shinada, whom he heard about his tragic baseball career lost, he then offered him a sum of money to payback his debt, as well as trying his best to get Shinada back to his baseball career.
  • Not just helping him, he also motivated him to do a lot of heroic acts subsequently, such as finding the truth about the match fixing scandal, as well as helping him to go to Kamurocho to settle things up.
  • At the end, he saved Kiryu, Saejima, Naoki Katsuya and Watase from the true mastermind Tsubasa Kurosawa, with the cost of him getting injured and hospitalized. After his recovery, he also helped the heroes in defeating Kurosawa, ending his power hungry scheme.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life[]

  • After Kiryu's another prison sentence, he tried his best to stop any gang war from happening. Notably when the Saio Triad started to invade Kamurocho, he tried to minimize any harms done by them, even at the cost of him being framed for the Little Asia arson caused by the Triads.
  • After his prison sentence, upon Kiryu's presumed death, as well as the tension between Tojo Clan and Yomei Alliance, he rightfully refused to retaliate and start a war against them, but rather negotiated peacefully with them, so that no harm would be done and citizens would be safer.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon[]

  • Upon the new anti-yakuza law, as well as the harms the yakuza could have caused if they keep operating. Daigo, along with Arakawa and Watase, ultimately prepared the plan of Great Dissolution, which he would completely disband the yakuza way of life across the entire country of Japan, so that people would be safer.
  • Along with Majima and Saejima. Upon the dissolution, he also helped Kiryu, Majima and Saejima in defeating dozens of rogue yakuza who denied the dissolution, so that other people would be safe and protected.
  • Along with Watase, he made a security company in Sotenbori to secure honest jobs for the ex-yakuza, on behalf of Arakawa, helping thousands of ex-yakuza in finding them their honest careers so that they could be beneficial citizens to the society, and even offered Ichiban Kasuga a position, which the latter declined because he wanted to do his own heroism in Yokohama.

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth[]

  • After few years, when the Tatara Channel targeted many reformed ex-yakuza, him, along with Majima and Saejima decided to lay low in a remote place, so that the yakuza way of life would not be revived.
  • He had an honorable fight with Kiryu, and then decided to help him in his last heroic journey, defeating Ebina and preventing his facade Second Great Dissolution from happening, which could have killed many reformed people.
  • Him, along with Majima and Saejima, also helped Kiryu defeat dozens of Ebina's men in Millennium Tower, preventing from harming civilians.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He was minor lethal, notably when he killed 2 unarmed Richardson's guards and tried to kill a weakened Richardson despite sucessfully disarming him, however, this is somewhat understandable because he only intended to ensure others were safe, as well as he didn't take any sadism in his killings.

Trivia[]

  • Along with Michael Afton and B.J. Blazkowicz, Daigo is one of the three Near Pure Good heroes who are the children of Pure Evil villains.
