Near Pure Good Hero Wiki
NOTE: This article is only for the film version of Coraline as the book and graphic novel versions are not considered Near Pure Good. Thus, only the Laika film version's info and heroic deeds must be put here.

You're NOT my mother!
~ Coraline confronting the Beldam.
The Other Mother. She's got this whole world where everything's better. The food, the garden, the neighbors. But it's all a trap.
~ Coraline explaining the Beldam's evilness to Wybie.

Coraline Jones is the titular main protagonist of Laika's first full length animated stop motion film Coraline, based in Neil Gaiman's novel of the same name. She is an adventurous and strong-willed girl, who moved to a new town in an apartment called "The Pink Palace", where she'd discover an Other World, seemingly better than hers in every aspect, but slowly discovered the secrets of this world, and how it wasn't exactly what it seemed.

She was voiced by Dakota Fanning.

Her Good Ranking[]

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]

  • She looked for and later broke the physical form of the Three Ghost Children's eyes/spirits, freeing them from spending eternity locked away in the darkness of the Other World, and allowing them to pass on.
  • Saved her parents, that were kidnapped by the Beldam.
  • Tried to get the Other Wybie out of the Other World, to save him from the Beldam.
  • After confronting The Beldam, she escaped the Other World and left her stuck in there.
  • While she threw the Cat in the Beldam's face, it was the only way she thought to get out of her situation in that moment. She also apologized and the Cat didn't get hurt, which make this not corrupting.
  • After destroying The Beldam's severed, mechanical hand along with Wybie, she threw the key in the old well, making sure the Beldam was defeated for good, and would never target any children in the Pink Palace again.
  • Befriended both Wybie and the Cat.
  • Organized a party with her neighbors, parents, Wybie and her grandmother, that can live in peace now that no children will ever disappear in her apartment again.
  • Accepted her new home after all.

What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]

  • She has moments where she can be a jerk, such as being more skeptical of her new neighbors than in the novel, being a big jerk to Wybie Lovat when she first met him, even though he tried to befriend her and only scared her unintentionally and got angry at him for not listening to her, and being really annoying to her overworked parents about the new house, though they tried to make it better to her. Though she warmed up at the end, it is unclear how much she subverted it.

Trivia[]

  • Due to having much fewer corrupting factors than in the film, her novel and graphic novel counterparts are Pure Good, instead of Near Pure Good.
