Near Pure Good Hero Wiki

I don't know if you've ever let someone down, got your ass kicked or straight up failed. But those are the moments that define us. They push you further than you've ever thought possible, and force you to make choices. No matter what the cost.
~ Cole's monologue in the opening of inFamous 2

Cole MacGrath is the main character of the video games InFamous and InFamous 2. He is one of Conduits, a sub-species of humans who possess superhuman abilities afforded to them by the presence of the "Conduit Gene". His superpower being electricity and electromagnetism manipulation, though in inFamous 2 he attains partial control over ice or napalm.

Although players may choose to portray him as a supervillain, he is canonically a selfless and noble superhero who willing to sacrifice himself to protect those he cherished and do the right thing.

He is voiced by Jason Cottle in the first game, and Eric Ladin in inFamous 2 and the rest of the games he appears in.

His Good Ranking[]

What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]

In General[]

  • He is very noble, always saves people and tries not to destroy anything with his strength so that others do not suffer.
  • His dearest people are his ex—girlfriend Trish Daly and his best friend Zeke Dunbar, and he does everything possible to protect them from any danger.
  • Depending on the player's choice and the passage of the game according to "Evil Karma", he can become very cruel and bloodthirsty, and in inFamous 2's bad ending, annihilating mankind and supplanting them with fellow Conduits like himself. However, "Evil Karma" and the bad endings for either game are not canonical.
  • While he had moments of jerkishness in inFamous, these had subsided by inFamous 2, where he acted far more cordial towards his friends and allies.

InFamous[]

  • He did not know that there was a powerful Ray Sphere in his package, and therefore he opened it, which led to the explosion of the city and the death of thousands of people. Then again, it wasn't Cole's fault at all.
    • Later during the events of inFamous 2, the guilt he felt from unwittingly activating it didn't go any better when it's revealed that the blast left behind harmful radiation which could slowly kill non-Conduits and dormant Conduits, explaining Ray Field Plague contracted by some citizens of Empire City and the city's subsequent quarantine. To make matters worse, a similar plague occured at New Marais masterminded by Joseph Betrand III and his best friend Zeke had contracted the disease.
  • He and Zeke tried to escape from epidemic Empire City, however they were caught by the police. Zeke manages to escape, but Cole is captured by FBI agent Moe Johnson, who offers him a deal: "go back to the city, find the Ray Sphere and Agent John White," who investigated the First Sons and their leader Kessler.
  • He defeats the villainous group of Reapers, thereby preventing their plans to spread the epidemic throughout the city and turn the inhabitants into Reapers to serve them.
  • Upon meeting a fan who presented him two posters to help spread a word about his heroism, Cole chooses the one depicting him standing on top of a clean, crime-free city with lightning bolt on one hand a'la Zeus the Greek God — a decision which helped putting citizens of Empire City at ease since the other poster, which depicted half of his face being bare skull while overlooking the decayed city, would yield opposite effect.
  • He saved Trish and friends when they were almost blown up by Alden.
  • He defeated Alden, thus thwarting his plan to use the Ray Sphere for terror.
  • He saved six doctors that Kessler was going to kill.
  • He mourned Trish when she was dying, and she said before she died that she was proud of what he had done for the city.
  • He destroyed the Ray Sphere so that others would not use it for evil.
  • He fought and defeated Kessler, after which the latter reveals that he is a future version of Cole, and that in the future the world will be attacked by a Beast that Cole decides to stop.

inFamous (comics)[]

  • He helped Warden Harms and the ECPD track down and defeat the remaining members of the First Sons.
  • When Moya initiated a military invasion of Empire City, he helped Zeke and the ECPD fight to defend the city.
  • He saved Zeke from David Warner by punching him in the face, causing the latter to lose his grip on the former.
  • He tried to lure David away before he could kill more people in Empire City.
  • After having an epiphany about his life, he acccepted responsibility and defeated David aboard the Washington.
  • Despite the trouble she had caused him, he attempted to rescue Moya from drowning, only leaving her behind when she told him to leave before the water could kill him.

InFamous 2[]

  • He fought and temporarily defeated the Beast when it was trying to destroy the entire city.
  • He appreciated Zeke's efforts in redeeming himself throughout the events of the game starting from developing his iconic melee weapon Amp. This culminated to the two making amends after restoring the power at Gas Works district of New Marais and subsequent confrontation against Joseph Betrand III.
  • He put an end to Joseph Bertrand III's ambitious arms race plan against Conduits, even exposed the latter's true nature to everyone.
  • When Zeke revealed his discovery of Joseph Bertrand III's Militia possessing a nuclear missile, he agreed with the former to steal it in a bid to use such weapon of mass destruction against the Beast who was approaching New Marais. Although the missile failed to destroy it because of both the Beast's own durability and energy absorption ability (latter explained the lack of fallout in the city), Cole and Zeke nonetheless prevented the organization from abusing it.
  • He was going to stop John (who had become a Beast) from destroying the entire population of the Earth, who were not Conduits.
  • He sacrificed his life to defeat the Beast and prevent its plan to destroy all ordinary people in the world, and activated the inhibitor so that all the Conduits in the world died, including Cole himself, because it was the only way to save the whole world. However, there was a hint at the end that Cole might have come back to life.

Infamous: Festival of Blood[]

  • After learning that there were many injured people in the old abandoned temple, he went there, where he cured everyone.
  • Although, after becoming a vampire, he began to attack people and drink their blood, he did it against his will, because the vampire essence strongly influenced him, and Bloody Mary encouraged him to do this. And besides, he's shocked by what he became when he was infected with vampirism.
  • He saved the whole city from the vampire invasion.
  • He defeated Bloody Mary, thus preventing her plan to enslave the entire city. After that, Cole returned to human form.

What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]

  • He's a bit mischievous and cocky, because according to him, he dropped out of college in the first place to annoy his parents, and apparently he didn't regret it.
  • His and Zeke's aforementioned decision to seize the nuclear missile belonged to Joseph Bertrand III's Militia to be used against The Beast can be considered thievery. However, this was owed to implication that the organization intended to use it for evil purposes which they prevented by the theft of such a weapon of mass-destruction, Therefore This Is a VERY minor prevention.
