Just because someone stumbles and loses their way doesn't mean they're lost forever.

~ Charles to his younger self in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
“
Charles Xavier was born into a world divided. A world he tried to heal. A mission he never saw accomplished. It seems it’s the destiny of great men to see their goals unfulfilled. Charles was more than a leader, more than a teacher. He was a friend. When we were afraid, he gave us strength. When we were alone, he gave us a family. He may be gone, but his teachings live on through us. His students. Wherever we may go, we must carry on his vision. And that is a vision of a world united.

~ Storm's Eulogy of Charles
Charles Francis Xavier, also known as Professor X, is the overarching protagonist of 20th Century Fox's X-Men film series.
He is a highly intelligent and powerful telepath, the leader and founder of the X-Men, and the founder of the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters. His dream of a peaceful coexistence between mutants and humanity has long been the driving force for the X-Men. An immensely powerful telepath and scientific genius, Professor X has been known as the heart and soul of the X-Men, having first formed the team of mutants back in 1962.
He is a very kind-hearted mutant who wanted mutants and humans to live in peace, and also founded a university for mutants and the X-Men Comanche, which was dedicated to saving the world from evil forces.
He sincerely cares about all his mutant students, and constantly taught them to use their abilities for good. He also did not allow inexperienced mutant children to participate in dangerous operations.
He considered Raven and Erik (Magneto) to be his family, which he constantly told them about, and deeply cared for them, and also taught Erik to always be kind and remember exactly good memories.
He was often disgusted by Erik's cruel methods towards people, and stopped him in every possible way.
He stopped staring at half-naked women in his old age, completely subverting that corrupting factor if it even was one to begin with.
X-Men: First Class[]
He fully accepted Raven as a foster sister and took care of her as they grew up, developing a fond relationship with her.
He and his team defeated Sebastian Shaw, and thereby prevented him from unleashing World War III, destroying humanity and taking over the world.
X-Men[]
He sent Storm and Cyclops to rescue Rogue and Wolverine. After that, he welcomed them well into his school, and ordered other mutants to guard them. He also suggested that Magneto might have staged the attack on them.
He promised to Wolverine that if he gives him time to figure out some of his memories, he will help Logan. In the end he kept his promise and didn't try to keep Logan to stay at the X-Mansion.
Despite being enemies, he still treated Magneto with kindness and respect, hoping to change his former friend's mind sometime.
X2: X-Men United[]
He and his team strongly opposed the villainous plans of Magneto and William Stryker. He also convinced the US president that mutants do not commit any evil deeds, and should live with people in peace.
He tried to teach Jason Stryker how to control his abilities, and even told him to consider it a gift, not a disease.
He was outraged by what William Stryker had done to him own son, and even tried to explain to the villain that this was his son.
X-Men: The Last Stand[]
Although one can argue that what he did to Jean as a child was unethical, it must be noted that he did it for the sole purpose of protecting everybody else, including Jean from the Phoenix's destructive nature.
He tried to restrain Jean when she became a villain, but in the end he failed.
His first death inspires Wolverine and Storm to grow into the new leaders of the X-Men, leading to the Brotherhood of Mutants to be stopped and the Phoenix to be killed by Logan at Alcatraz.
The Wolverine[]
He reassured Logan that Magneto can be trusted before the two could fight at an airport.
X-Men: Days of Future Past[]
When the threat of the Sentinels caused the near extinction of the mutant race and also people who had the X-gene or even just sympathized with mutants in general, he out aside his differences with Magneto and team up with him to stop the Sentinels.
He came up with the plan of Kitty Pride sending someone's mind back into the past to prevent Raven from killing Bolivar Trask in Paris during the year 1973, for which Wolverine volunteered to do.
When his younger counterpart from 1973 made contact with his 2023 self, the older Professor made an encouraging speech to his younger self to not lose hope and showed him a vision of a better future with the school being filled with students ready to use their powers for good.
In 2023, he finally makes peace with Magneto even if Magneto was slowly dying from his wounds caused by the Sentinels.
His younger self helped Logan save Raven and change the future so that the whole world would not perish. He also did not allow Erik to kill Raven and Bolivar Trask, despite the fact that this would also lead to a good future, but preferred to do it in a peaceful way.
X-Men: Apocalypse[]
He forgave Scott for destroying his favorite tree.
He comforted Jean about her haunting visions.
He refused to join the Apocalypse, and together with his team, he defeated it, and thereby prevented it from destroying all of humanity. He was also willing to sacrifice his life to save his comrades.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix[]
He oversaw a mission to save astronauts from a fatal misadventure in Earth's orbit.
He felt deep remorse for lying to Jean about her father all this time and trying to help her control her powers.
He and his team tried to stop the Vuk to prevent it from destroying the entire race of humans and mutants on Earth. And eventually Jean stopped her.
Between Dark Phoenix and Logan[]
When the consciousness of the original timeline's Wolverine returned to his body in 2023 and visited him in his office, Xavier was happy to see his old comrade who helped him create this better future and kept his promise of keeping everybody Wolverine mentioned 50 years ago safe and alive.
Logan[]
He felt deep remorse for his uncontrolled actions, which killed many people, including the X-Men, except Logan.
Throughout the film, he tries to convince Logan that helping people and fighting in hopes for a better future is never in vain.
When they come across the Munson family, he uses his telepathic powers to calm down the horses and return them to the family without causing any further accidents.
He told Laure to not let Logan kill himself, still having faith in his student despite his depressed and tired state.
Before his death, he gives one final lesson to Logan about why family matters and how he should take a moment and feel it.
His final lesson leads to Logan's character growth and noble heroic sacrifice at the end of the film, leading to a better future for the new mutants.
Deadpool & Wolverine[]
His faith in Wolverine indirectly and posthumously inspired an alternate younger variant of Logan (who wished to be the man whom his Charles Xavier believed him to be) from a different timeline to become a hero which lead him to team up with Deadpool and save not just Earth-10005 but also the entire Multiverse from Cassandra Nova and Paradox. Not to mention, him telling his Logan to save Laura lead to Laura and her friends to grow up and eventually lead to Laura meeting the alternate Wolverine and even joining him as his adopted daughter.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
He is sometimes arrogant and has a habit of trying to control those close to him, with or without his psychic abilities, as instead of trusting Moira not to divulge the whereabouts of him and his students to her superiors at the CIA, he simply erases her memories of them. He also threw Scott's death in Jean's face, which is what got him killed to begin with.
He is very reckless, as he tried to stop Erik from destroying the ships trying to kill them, despite knowing they would just leave to fetch more nukes, and cruelly told Erik the Soviets trying to kill them were "just following orders", despite knowing what he suffered during the Holocaust and despite it hardly being an excuse in the first place. This is also what got him crippled in the first place since Moira most ungratefully tried to take Erik's life in return for saving hers all in order to enable Charles.
He has some jerkish moments, like when he found fault with Raven for using her abilities for entertainment. He is also consistently very rude to Logan in general after developing Alzheimer's, regardless of the fact that he had willingly taken him in.
