Adrien Émile Gabriel Donatien Athanase Agreste, commonly known as Cat Noir, is one of the titular main protagonists in the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir series. He is a French teenager and the estranged son of the famous fashion designer Gabriel Agreste. He takes on the responsibility of protecting Paris from Hawk Moth after obtaining the Cat Miraculous, a magical jewel that, when powered by his Kwami partner, Plagg, allows him to transform into a superhero.
The Cat Miraculous is one of the two most powerful miraculous, alongside the Ladybug Miraculous, which belongs to his crime-fighting partner and girlfriend, Ladybug. He is later revealed to be a human-sentimonster created by his late mother, Émilie Agreste, from her emotion of love.
In French, he is voiced by Benjamin Bollen. In English, he is voiced by Bryce Papenbrook, who also voices Kazuto "Kirito" Kirigaya in Sword Art Online, and Zeldris in The Seven Deadly Sins.

His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Despite Adrien disliking his father's control freak nature, he does not hate him, the other way around actually, he loves him deeply despite their differences, and only ran out from home in the first episode to experience at least a single day in the outside world.
- He has a caring and loving personality, in spite of all of the years he spent with little to no social contact with anyone at all, and cares a lot for his friends, family, and people in general.
- He protected Paris against countless akumatized villains alongside Ladybug, including some who were global threats, such as Zombizou, Robustus and Darkblade.
- Despite flirting with Ladybug constantly, as he is in love with her, he always takes care to don't get out of line, so much so that she never acknowledged them as flirting, and more like a friendly playing around.
- He didn't get mad at Ladybug when she told him that she was in love with someone else, instead accepting her friendship and wanted her to be happy.
- He's willing to sacrifice himself to help saving Paris. Some examples are: "Zombizou", "Chameleon", "Weredad", "Gamer 2.0" and "Lies".
- Despite Chloé being his childhood, and, before the series' start, only friend, he doesn’t approve her behavior on other people, and threatened to not being her friend anymore if she didn’t change, because he couldn't be friends with someone who treats people that way.
- He also doesn't approve Lila's fake-up behavior, as she is manipulative and a liar. He doesn't expose her, not because he doesn't want it, but because she's an extremely good liar, and he knew she could make people still believe in her without proof. But when they are alone with each other, Adrien tries to change her mind.
- In the Christmas special, he takes care of Plagg, who wasn't feeling well due to extreme energy expenditure, and cold weather.
- In Miraculous: New York – United Heroez, he prevented Hawk Moth and Techlonizer from using American nuclear missiles to start another World War.
- In Miraculous Paris:
- Despite his evil counterpart: Claw Noir putting him, Ladybug and Betterfly in constant danger, he showed no anger towards him. When he learned of Claw Noir's backstory, he took pity on him and taught Claw Noir about kindness and forgiveness, thus redeeming him as a hero and having his counterpart team up with Betterfly.
- He even revealed in that moment that while he had considered wishing his mother back, he knew the cost of such a wish and could never bring himself to make such a wish knowing someone else would lose their mother as a result.
- In "Derision", when he learns the full extent of Chloé’s cruelty towards Marinette from Kim, Adrien heard that the year before he came to their school, Chloé would constantly prank and humiliate Marinette to no end because of their social standings. Worst of all, he learns that she, along with Kim, traumatized Marinette's love life before they met, which angered Adrien. Later that day, he goes to the Le Grand Paris hotel to confront Chloé, demanding that she apologize to Marinette and prove that she can change her ways. When she refuses by saying that she doesn't care about Marinette's forgiveness, saying to him: "Why bother having power if you can't use it against those who don't have any?". With that, he angrily but calmly reprimands her for all the horrible things she'd done, due to how she never repented for any of it or showed that she can become a better person. Finally realizing that people like Chloé will never change their ways, Adrien tells her that their friendship is over for good.
- Regardless of everything his father did to him, Adrien was still saddened by his father's death.
- In "Revelator", after Rena Rouge discovered Ladybug's deepest, darkest secret about Gabriel being Monarch, and became mad at her, Ladybug encouraged him to evolve his Miraculous powers and grow stronger. He was able to unlock his Miraculous Cat Noir and erased what Rena learned from Ladybug's crystal from her memories.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- In the episode "Syren", he threatened to give up being Cat Noir if Plagg didn't tell him what Ladybug was hiding from him. While this is understandable due to Adrien hating lies and secrets due to some childhood traumas, it was still a pretty selfish action.
- His consistent flirting with Ladybug, even after she has expressed disinterest, can be seen as persistent and potentially disrespectful of her boundaries. Even though he no longer flirts with her as he is now in love with her civilian identity as Marinette, he never apologized to her for being so pushy.
- As Cat Noir, he is arrogant. While most of the time this is just an annoying knows-more attitude, sometimes his arrogance get a little bit out of hand. There are these examples:
- Sometimes jokingly mocking some akumatized villains for their appearances by making puns and jokes.
- He also has a lack of situational awareness and impulsivity on occasions, and his actions often prioritize immediate emotional release or action over strategic thinking, sometimes complicating Ladybug's plans.
- In "Copycat", when he unintentionally made a man get akumatized by lying to him, saying that he and Ladybug were together, because he was jealous that said man was in love with Ladybug.
- In "Santa Claws", he tried, out of rage and sadness due to his mother's death and his father's absence, destroy the city's giant Christmas tree, though he gave up before doing it, and destroyed a wallpaper of himself that was near there.
- In "Sole Crusher", he unintentionally interrupted Marinette in the middle of trying to reason with Sole Crusher (who is Zoé akumatized), and jokingly asked Sole Crusher if she "started off on the wrong foot" (also referencing her large size), which annoys Sole Crusher, demonstrating his lack of awareness and impulsivity, causing Marinette to yell at him for interrupting her, much to his confusion, even though it was a comedic moment.
- In "Derision", he tried out of rage and fury after finding out that Kim pulled a cruel prank on Marinette, he as Cat Noir, violently attacked the akumatized Kim as Dark Humor, and nearly cataclysmed him if it weren't for Ladybug's intervention, although he regretted it, making a minor prevention.
Trivia[]
- He is the icon of the Deletion template, which is fitting considering he has the power of Destruction, and uses Cataclysm, allows him to negatively affect and essentially destroy anything that he touches with his ring hand.
- While he is NPG now, it is possible he will subvert his corrupting factors in the later seasons after season 5, and might become Pure Good.
