“ | But... I was so wrapped up in that, I got tricked by Queen. And now... Noelle is going to suffer because of it. Maybe I did just like being superior. Maybe I am... just... an idiot. | „ |

Berdly is a major character in the indie video game Deltarune, serving as a minor character in Chapter 1 and the secondary antagonist of Chapter 2.
The self-proclaimed smartest student in his school, he is Kris' classmate and rival, as well as Noelle's study partner. In the Dark World, he willingly becomes one of Queen's minions, obsessed with creating a "Smartopia" for himself and Noelle. That said, he eventually feels remorse for his actions and decides to help Kris and their friends stop Queen and free Noelle.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Even when a jerk/villain, he truly cared about Noelle and was implied to have hung out with Kris in the past.
- Upon telling Kris, Susie and Lancer his backstory and motives for helping Queen take over the world, he expresses remorse for his actions and, after some advice from Susie and Lancer, redeems himself.
- Despite barely knowing Lancer, he's willing to help the Delta Warriors close the Dark Fountain if that means he will be saved.
- He frees himself from Queen's brainwashing at the end of their boss fight because he doesn't want to hurt his friends; if defeated by violence, it will be at the cost of getting his arm fried.
- He saves Kris, Susie and Ralsei from falling to their deaths by summoning dozens of Darkners (the exact number depends on how many of them you've spared) to create a gigantic Trash Machine Mecha to combat GIGA Queen, thus being partially responsible for her defeat.
- While he originally tried to create a new Dark Fountain under the belief everyone will have a happier life that way, once Ralsei reveals it would cause the Titans to emerge and destroy the world, he expresses remorse for it.
- In the SnowGrave Route, upon seeing what "Kris" (actually the player) has been doing something to Noelle, he fights them to free her, at the cost of his own life.
- While he's still arrogant at the end of the chapter, it's still a major improvement to his insufferable self at the beginning of the game. This is displayed by him thanking Noelle for helping him.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- While not as bad as beforehand, he still has an ego, such as proudly "rescuing" Noelle when Susie has already done so or thinking she's been crushing on him simply because she was helping him.
- While he massively improved, he's still a jerk, such as partially-feigning being weak to get a kiss from Susie or expressing amusement at the fact he would study with Kris and Susie after the Fountain is sealed (even if he does warm up to them).
Trivia[]
- Since Deltarune is still in progress, there's a chance Berdly's status as Near Pure Good will change in the future for either Pure Good or Inconsistently Admirable.
