~ Beatrice foreshadowing her motivation. |
Beatrice is the tritagonist of Cartoon Network's animated miniseries, Over the Garden Wall.
She was a girl, until one day she threw a rock at a bluebird, causing her family and herself to be cursed for it, turning all of them into talking bluebirds. She then makes a deal with a witch named Adelaide to gain a power that could undo the curse if she brough children to her. Fortunately, she made friendship with the children she found and gave up her plan, those children being the lost brothers, Wirt and Greg.
She was voiced by Melanie Lynskey.
Her Good Ranking[]
What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Her cursing her family was unintentional, and while she didn't tell them and ran away from home, it was out of shame, and she tried looking for a way to turn them back to humans.
- She only made a deal with Adelaide to undo the curse, and even then, she wasn't aware of the planned horror the children she brought to her would face, as she thought Adelaide only wanted somebody to help with tasks.
- She helps Greg and Wirt escape Pumpkin Town.
- She helps Greg and Wirt gather enough money to get the boat in Quincy Eddicott's mansion.
- She repeatedly tried to foil the group's attempt to get to Adelaide, as she, having bonded with the children, didn't want to hand them over to her.
- She offered herself to be made Adelaide's servant in Wirt and Greg's place.
- She opened the door, letting night air in, killing Adelaide, and preventing her from making Greg and Wirt go through the horrific fate of getting their brains replaced by wool.
- While her death was gruesome, it wasn't Beatrice's fault, and while she didn't seem sorry, Adelaide deserved it.
- She saved Wirt from drowning in a frozen lake and handed him over to be taken care of by her family.
- She went in a dangerous blizzard to find Greg and save him form the Beast.
- She helped Wirt save Greg.
- She apologized for what she attempted to do before and said goodbye to Wirt as he left the Unknown.
- She used the scissors to turn her whole family back to human form.
- Is shown to have fewer corrupting qualities at the end of the series.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She had a lot of jerkish antics, especially with Wirt, who she loved to spite for no reason. Even though it became less when they became friends, she is still shown to have some jerkish tendencies from time to time.
- She fails the standards to Wirt, who defeated the Beast, and Greg, who nearly was turned into an Eldenwood tree in order to get his brother and him home, although she still stands out enough for saving Greg and Wirt from such a gruesome fate at Adelaide's hands.
Trivia[]
- She and Wirt are the only Over the Garden Wall heroes to be Near Pure Good.
