Prince Adam, better known as The Beast, is one of the titular main protagonists of Disney's Beauty and the Beast franchise.
He was a selfish prince who ruled his kingdom with an iron fist until he was cursed by an Enchantress for his behavior, turning him into a terrifying beast until he learned the error of his ways before his heartfelt redemption.
In all of his animated and video game appearances, he was voiced by Robby Benson while his vocal sound effects were provided by Frank Welker. In the live action film, he was portrayed by Dan Stevens.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He allows Belle to see her father and honors her wish of trading places with him.
- He slowly tries to be nicer to Belle, although his first attempts are a complete failure, due to Belle's stubborn refusal.
- While undeniably wrathful, and it being before his redemption, his reaction at Belle entering West Wing isn't exaggerated, but understandable, as the curse would be permanent if anything happened to the rose.
- When she runs away, he goes after Belle and risks his own life to save her from a pack of wolves, even if it meant for him to get himself injured a lot in the process when fighting off the wolf pack.
- After Belle takes care of him, he starts to become more patient and affable towards her, who in return, stops denying his attempts to be pleasant.
- Thanks to Lumiere, the Beast and Belle overcome their animosity and create a friendship. This all started when Lumiere made a clever move to allow the Beast to give Belle access to the library, which she loved. This resulted in the two falling in love in order to free the kingdom from the curse.
- During Christmas Eve, when Forte attempts to destroy the castle to prevent Belle and Beast from falling in love, he defends the castle by defeating Forte, which saves the lives of all of his servants and Belle.
- By destroying Forte, he got rid of his corrupting influence who encouraged his negative and self-destructive traits that he was trying to overcome.
- He allowed Belle to use the mirror to see her father, and out of love for her, allowed her to go see him, despite having nothing to gain from this, as if Belle didn't return, he was worried that he would be imprisoned in his Beast form forever.
- During his fight with Gaston and when seeing the sight of Belle, he spares Gaston’s life and only tells him to never come back to the castle.
- Once he becomes human again, he cherished and reunited with his servants when they all recover their human forms.
- He subverted most of his corrupting factors at the end of the film.
What Prevents Him from Being Pure Good?[]
- He started off as a very unkind character, which resulted in him becoming a beast. Even after his redemption, there's still not enough knowledge on his following traits to determine if he is Pure Good.
Trivia[]
- He and Lumiere are the only two characters from Beauty and the Beast to be NPG.
- Coincidentally, both of them have their own shades of red hair when they are in their human forms.
- He and Aladdin are the only protagonists from the Disney Renaissance to be Near Pure Good, as the rest of them are Pure Good.
