Baymax is the deuteragonist of Disney's 54th full-length animated feature film Big Hero 6 and Big Hero 6: The Series. He is also the titular main protagonist of the Disney+ original series Baymax!.
He is a medical healthcare robot crated by Tadashi Hamada to help people all around the world, having more than 10.000 medical precedents in his code. In a tragic fire caused in the faculty Tadashi studied in, he ended up dying after coming back to save a professor. Baymax was then brought to Tadashi's younger brother, Hiro, who, after finding out the fire wasn't an accident, upgraded Baymax to fight and help him find the culprit.
After, with help of Hiro's friends, discovering the man behind the fire was Professor Robert Callaghan (the one Tadashi came back to save), Hiro became vengeful and wanted to end Callaghan, but snapped out of it after being talked down by Baymax. After that, they both, along with their friends, became the team known as Big Hero 6, protecting the city of San Fransokyo from threats.
He was voiced by Scott Adsit.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- While one could argue that his moral agency is too limited, as he can't do anything other than what he was programmed to do unless his chips are switched, Baymax shows not only enough personality, but acts out of his own programming, such as not allowing Hiro to open his chip compartment to make him murderous again, and saving Hiro from another dimension while he was without his medical chip (that he removed so Hiro could rebuild him), and by Tadashi's words, "this is what makes Baymax, Baymax", it can be assumed his personality that is considered Near Pure Good is the one in that chip, not the robot itself.
- Always tries to medically help people.
- Tried to make Hiro feel better about Tadashi's loss over the whole movie.
- Goes where Hiro's microbot points as Hiro said it'd make him feel better.
- Warned Hiro to be cautious not to fall.
- Saved Hiro after they ran from the Microbots, protecting him from the fall with his fluffy body.
- Helped Hiro in his plan to track down Yokai (though he never knew Hiro wanted to kill him).
- Saves Hiro from falling in the lake.
- Saves Hiro, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred and Go Go from Yokai when he tries to kill them.
- Protected the gang multiple times during the car chase scene.
- Saves Hiro and his friends by floating to get them all under the bottom of the ocean.
- Uses his super scanner in order to identify where Yokai is.
- Saved the gang yet once again from being crushed with a boulder by Yokai.
- Refused to hurt Professor Callaghan when Hiro demanded him to, until Hiro removed his medical chip.
- Expressed remorse upon gaining control of himself again, asking if the gang was ok.
- Refused to allow Hiro to made him murderous again.
- With multiple footage of Tadashi, he finally managed to make Hiro let go of his death and become a better person.
- Helped stop Yokai from destroying Krei Tech Headquarters.
- Scanned a person inside the portal and went in there with Hiro to save them, with the person being Abigail, Callaghan's daughter.
- Sacrificed himself to save both Abigail and Hiro from being imprisoned in the alternate dimension.
- Gave Hiro his medical chip so he could rebuild him with the same memories and personality.
- Defeated Globby and Noodle Burger Boy across the series multiple times.
- Helped prevent Obake from destroying San Fransokyo.
- Helped save Liv Amara's life.
- Helped defeat Diane Amara.
- Overall, Baymax has no corrupting qualities.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He has moral agency issues, as he was created to do good and have a loving personality by Tadashi. Despite this, he does have moments where he shows some free will like refusing to open his port so Hiro could make him violent again or trying to sacrifice himself, so it’s a minor prevention.
