Bastian Bux is the main protagonist of the 1984 fantasy film The Neverending Story and its sequels. He is a young boy who is routinely bullied at school, and becomes engrossed in the fantasy world of a book he finds in a store.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- He cares about Atreyu and his quest and empathizes with him as he reads, even crying over the death of Atreyu's horse Artax.
- He shouts warnings to Atreyu when he's in danger at the Great Stone Gateway, which helps to save him.
- He saves Fantasia from being destroyed by the Nothing by giving the Empress a new name, wishing back everyone who was taken by the Nothing, including Atreyu and Artax.
- He is remorseful for being corrupted by Xayide and brings Atreyu back to life after temporarily killing him, so he subverts this as a corrupting trait.
- He defeats Xayide by wishing she had a heart, restoring Fantasia.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- He uses Falcor to scare his bullies, chasing them until one of them falls and is knocked out, while the rest hide in a dumpster. While they may have had it coming it was too mischievous and vengeful for a pure good hero, which could be seen as foreshadowing his temporary fall into corruption in the sequel.
- He becomes more arrogant in the sequels and can be a jerk, such as when Atreyu saves his life and claims Bastian would do the same for him, and Bastian sarcastically says "Yeah, sure."
