Baloo is the tritagonist of Disney's 2016 live action remake, The Jungle Book.
Like his original counterpart, he is a lazy and laid back bear who lives in an Indian jungle and eventually meets a man cub named Mowgli, who, despite him initially tricking for his own interests, gets very attached to.
He is voiced by Bill Murray.
His Good Ranking[]
What Makes Him Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Upon knowing Mowgli, he saved him from Kaa, although he had second intentions, it was still a genuine heroic act.
- He was the first animal to encourage and support Mowgli using his human "tricks" and incorporating them in the life in the jungle.
- He, after Mowgli helped him with honey, taught Mowgli his way of living in the jungle and had a lot of fun with him.
- When something lurked in the jungle, he had Mowgli stay behind him and was ready to fight whatever was there.
- He and Bagheera rescued Mowgli from King Louie, who wanted him to create the Fire Flower and allow him to rule the jungle.
- He wasn't a complete disregarding person, as he told Bagheera he'd never teach Mowgli to mess with the Elephants, showing he, like the rest of the jungle, has respect for them.
- When he found out Shere Khan was the tiger after him, and had murdered Akela, and wouldn't stop at anything as long as he didn't have Mowgli, he finally agreed it was better to have Mowgli go to the man-village.
- While he pretended to be cold, it was the only way to ensure Mowgli would stay at the Man-village and not come back so he's be safe from Shere Khan, and he admitted it was the hardest thing he'd ever done.
- He started saying the Law of Jungle after Shere Khan made his speech, getting the whole jungle to rebel against him and forgive Mowgli.
- He fought Shere Khan along with the Wolf Pack.
- He was happy to be at peace with Mowgli and Bagheera at the end of the movie.
What Prevents Him From Being Pure Good?[]
- His lazy personality and complete disregard for rules sometimes causes him to come off as jerkish to some, such as Bagheera.
- He never feels remorse for tricking the animals to get honey for him, putting them in danger and even lying saying the bees didn't sting.
Trivia[]
- He and his animated counterpart are one of the only three Disney characters to be both Near Pure Good in the cartoon and live action adaptation, alongside both Aladdins and Merryweather/Flittle.
