Asuna Yuuki is the deuteragonist of the Sword Art Online franchise.
She is Kirito's girlfriend, fiancé, and in-game wife. She is an incredibly fast rapier user (earning her the nickname "Lightning Flash") and was the second-in-command of the top guild in SAO, the Knights of the Blood Oath.
She is voiced by Haruka Tomatsu in Japanese, who also voiced Haru Okumura in Persona 5, and Cherami Leigh in English.

What Makes Her Close to Being Pure Good?[]
- Asuna is very kind and helpful just as Kirito, very emotion-based and unable to abandon someone in trouble. Just like Kirito, she hates those who victimize the weak. When she sees some rogue players in SAO trying to steal "tax money" from some kids, she doesn't hesitate in teaching them a lesson.
- She used to be a little bit too prideful but grows out of it.
- Instead of logging out with Alice, Asuna chooses to log Alice out on her own and stay in the Underworld, knowing that Kirito wouldn't make it to the alter before the time acceleration reactivated, and that he would be stuck in the Underworld for 200 years as a result.
- Her absolute refusal to let Yuuki just fade away is one of her kindest non-romantic acts, with her repeatedly going completely out of her way to make Yuuki's last few months as amazing as possible and then going on to more or less dedicate her own life to Yuuki's memory.
- While her mother expects her to marry a man wealthy enough so she can have the stability necessary to have a career of her own without financial risks, Asuna on her part, does want a career of her own, but be with the man she loves, showing she primarily cares about love and honor.
- She has unconditional kindness and love towards young children, as shown by her interactions with the charges of the orphanage, Silica, Yuuki and of course, her "daughter" Yui. She serves as a mom to the Heroes of Aincrad, always looking out for her younger friends and showing concern for their wellbeing. Asuna is so motherly that she is practically the ideal of the warm, kind, gentle and loving mother in contemporary Light Novel and Anime, who cares for and nurtures the emotional wellbeing of her daughter Yui while taking into account how her nature as a Mental Health A.I. affects her.
- She is a selfless defender who would do anything to protect the ones she cares about.
- She makes a heroic sacrifice as she jumps in the way of a blade meant for Kirito, in the final battle of the Aincrad arc, and she dies smiling to him after that. Although she survives it, she had no way of knowing that.
- Helped Kirito and Yui by sending them the access card.
- Befriended Yuuki Konno and helped her with her fights in ALO.
- After Yuuki died, she respectfully attended her memorial service.
- Convinced her mother to let go of her past insecurities with a talk.
- When Johnny Black attacked Kirito and her with poison, she tried her best to protect herself and Kirito and was horrified when he managed to stab Kirito.
- Despite being angry with Kikuoka regarding taking Kirito away despite objections from his family, she decided to let it go after Kikuoka explained to her and Rinko Kojiro why such a move was necessary. She decided to stay on the Ocean Turtle to watch over Kirito and his health progress.
What Prevents Her From Being Pure Good?[]
- She originally started off being jerkish and somewhat aggressive (which can classify her as a Tsundere), although it could be said that it is understandable considering the situation they were in in the game, and there were also understandable and even arguably justifiable moments, since Kirito sometimes got her in the nerves, there were still times when she overreacted. However, after she got engaged to Kirito, she began to tone it down, however, Asuna can still behave like that on a few occasions. Therefore, while she doesn't count as a jerk anymore, she slightly fails the admirable standard compared to Yuuki.
- When Alice asked her about her relationship with Kirito, when she starts to talk about how long they had met and they are even dating, she said that in a boastful tone at the end, cleary wanting to brag it on Alice.
